This problem that I'm having happens with every disk I purchase. Oddly enough, I can download software via websites just fine. And yes, in Hardware & Sound, it's set to "Play CDs or other media automatically".

It just says waiting to connect before eventually coming up with the same message you'd get when you have no internet connection. 90% of websites are fine but the 10% includes some websites i need to get on which is rather frustrating! There seems to be no correlation between the type of sites that wont work. Some examples are Microsoft Corporation , Car Insurance, Home Insurance, Travel Insurance & Credit Cards from Tesco Finance & Insurance , Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test to name just a few...
I don't believe it's actually a computer problem as my laptop (which is new) cant connect to these sites either through my home wireless network but if i connect to the internet through a friends wireless internet the sites load no problem! I dont believe its a firewall problem or anything like that as i've tried diabling them and pretty much everything else i could think of. .........
Im going to sound like a Neophyte question. Why is it that this newsgroup is hijacked by this guy Keven and what ever the heck he is doing. I dont get it. Cant this news group be set up to refuse mail from this name. Im not critical really I just dont understand, with all the technology today, surely the moderator has the power to stop his eamil address. And if he creates a new one put it in. Ive neverrun a news group so I may be in the dark.
My second question is perhaps more phylisophical. I dont get what he is doing, I mean the messages are stupid. At least if they are ads for drugs I get it he is selling something but, these messages I just dont get ?? What is the point of it all. I hope Im not focusing too much attention on this I just dont get these two questions. Its amazing how one guy can be such a fool?? I flag it as spam but no one seems to do anything about it??
Windows XP and Vista. What will be an easy way to popup a .dat file on starting Windows. The file runs on Linux popup a Bible verse according to date. I expect to have the verse of that day popup on desktop on starting Windows.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a very unusual problem with my vista ultimate 64 bit, when ever I execute an exe file, I can't delete it afterwards. I can delete it after restart. There is no security problem, if I do not execute the file then I can delete, move and do what I want. The moment it is run, and certainly close it, I can't delete it any longer. I checked that the process is not running any more. I tried to see if something is locking the file, no handle was found on the file. It happens for different programs, no matter what as long as it is an .exe file. I tried unlocker program that said the file is not locked. It happens even on a usb key with FAT. The moment I run the exe from the key I can't delete it, and I can't remove the key the right way.
When I pull out the key, and return it, I can delete the file, it is free. But I can't do that to my hard drive. Tried scanning for virus, and malware - nothing was found. Tried security related, but since it happen on a usb FAT disk, and there is no security for that, I am starting to give up. At this time formatting the computer in not an option.
I just installed IE8 and this is happening. What can I do about it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis problem started yesterday after downloading IE8, I went ina d changed the security setttings like advised in an earlier question. This solved the problem and worked yeasterday. Today when I try and open attachments it gives me the error "The command failed to execute" again. I have checked he security settings and reset the Internet settings. Still can't open attachments. What will resolve this issue?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am getting the error "The command failed to execute" when I try opening a ..pps file in windows mail. I have Power Point 2000 installed (yes, I know, old version, but this my fathers machine and he is not wanting to buy the latest version if this continues to work, which I can understand). Anyway, the default file associations are properly set, and when the file is saved into the documents directory, you can click on the file and it will open properly. This problem is only happening in Windows Mail. Is there a simple fix to this?

I installed IE8, started getting "command failed to execute" when I tried to open an attachment in my Hotmail (old style not Live) on MSN Premium with MSN Explorer. They would open in Live. I like the old stuff because it's easier to use for me. I read the threads to uninstall IE8. I did and problem fixed. Go to microsoft.com, click on the support tab, click IE Solution Center, click How to uninstall IE8, click Microsoft Fix It.
If it goes to your Download Manager, run it fro there after it downloads. Restart and check as it tells you to see that it uninstalled. Hope this works for you also. You'd think Microsoft could put a package together that would work with their own systems.... I have another problem that no one seems to know how to fix, had a recommendation to go to Mozilla Firefox.
I opened my windows mail this morning. As many others have done. The "command failed to execute" came up when I tried to open a pdf or adobe file. I have never had trouble opening them before. So? I looked at another e-mail that had a pdf/adobe file attached and the same thing happened.
Could someone please advise. I went threw the posts and seems everyone thinks it is connected with their anti virus. I run Previx and have for several years. No updates to it lately and never a problem such as this. I made sure the security box was unchecked. Which it was.

after installing automatic updates:ie8, winmail, Vista sp2, error message " command failed to execute" when attempting to open any type of attachment. only work around found is to save the attachment to a different folder then open. This is very annoying, it is un-believeable that MS would sabotage their own products with updates that DONT WORK, and I would expect a MS fix soon.

However, there is now a constant problem of when trying to execute downloaded programs (ie AVG, latest Directx) the application just crashes out in an AppCrash error. I have tried the UAC and permissions and SAFE MODE but nothing. I have read through varius Techs by MS but to no avail and have even done clean re-installs but still the same problem. I have read somewhere that Vista likes different files to be ordered, is ht correct and would anybody have an idea of what is happening?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI purchased a download of this game from The Adventure Company website. All went well with the install until asked if I wanted to install DirectX 9.0. I chose to knowing that I have DirectX 10 on this system but had the following error message:
"Unble to execute File: C:programflile?can'treadmyownwriting?dreamfalldirectx dxsetup.exe Create process failed; code 740. The requested operation requires elevation." Then, when attempting to run the game, I get a message saying that D3DX9_27.DLL can't be found. The DX9 folder located in the Dreamfall folder is empty.
I uninstalled and reinstalled during which I snooped in the DirectX 9 folder (Dreamfall program files, directx folder) and found the missing .dll file and copied it to an empty folder in my documents prior to asking it to install DX9 of which the install again failed (and the DX folder emptied). I tried pasting the missing .dll into the Dreamfall folder and up came another error message when trying to run the game. I read that one could either paste d3dx9_27.dll into the sys32 folder or download & install DX9 from the Microsoft website but I'm scared to do so in case either of these solutions screws up DX 10.
I am configuring/personalizing a new HP Pavilion dv7-2173d with Vista home 64bit OS. I'm making recovery disks using blank CDs I had in the house. Using those disks I need 20 of them. I know the recovery disks will include all the software I won't use and don't want. Do I need to do all 20 to get recovery disks jsut for Vista?

I don't really need to have two seperate areas in this way and would like to combine them together to have a single logical drive on the laptop. I am trying to burn DVD disks on my laptop, and when i insert a disk it says i don't have a disk in the drive and i should input one. I tried several DVD disks, including a rewritable one. I looked at a similar Toshiba laptop, and it does write DVD disks.
I don't know how long i've had this prob since, i use this option very rarely. Is there a way to fix the DVD drive without replacing it? and keeping reinstalling windows as last option ? (I'm not sure reinstalling will help). The drive does read DVD disks that have something on them. The drive does burn CD type disks

I note that everyone appears to be having a problem with this update. If it does not work, it needs to be removed from the updates for Windows Vista. Vista is enough of a pain without adding to it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have got a nasty bug on my vista laptop. I have tried just about everything to clean it up but with no luck. When the bug hits, it turns off the shell extension on AVG, disables all the shortcuts on my desktop. ( Turns the icons to a blank page as well as not letting them execute) When I click on the start menu all the "most used" programs are gone. It also disable the shut down option arrow from the start menu. I have avast, AVG, SypBot, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and Hijackthis all have found problems but have not fixed the major issue.
