Anyone have any luck running this game under Vista SP1 (refresh)? Game is updated, I have tried the bcdedit variable but that didn't help.SP1 prevents me from installing the KB940105 update so I can't try that. Yes I know SP1 is beta and I probably will need to uninstall it to get the game to work, I am just curious if anyone else is playing it under SP1 without issues....
View 4 RepliesA certain update (Windows6.0-KB940105-x86) would supposedly solve the problem instantly. I followed the link directly without checking if it was for 32 bit or 64 bit Vista, so this might be the incompatible 32 bit, but when I attempted to install, I got an error message saying that it doesn't apply to my system. I'd quickly go see if this was for 32 bit, but instead I went to play some Halo 2 for PC. It crashes once with one of the display drivers failing (it had never done this before). I decide to uninstall and then reinstall my VGA driver, which is the latest. I used the exact .exe file from the internet I saved. Since it worked the first time, it should work the second, but instead I get the same error message as before with the other update (it doesn't apply to my system). So now, I'm without a video card driver that was working just two days ago, with no changes made to the computer.
BTW, I back when my keyboard driver was failing and a recommended Vista update was downloaded and I got the same message. Thankfully, that problem has been fixed with a reinstall of Vista. Right now, there is so much set up now, that I don't want to reset the whole computer.

When I turned Vista on today it said there was an update. So here I am installing this update that seems like an hour, only to find it did not install and it reverting back the changes. Why didn't this install? Is there a program conflict somewhere? I never had a problem like this with XP. I have my firewall off (Comodo) and really don't have much programs installed since it's just my laptop.

I am having a problems installing the KB935509 update on a Vista Enterprise system. Windows Updater is always unsuccessful - I have tried many times. I have even downloaded KB935509 & installed manually -it says successful but if I look under Control Panel/Installed Updates it is not listed there and Windows Updater keeps coming back with a request to install. This is very frustrating - I keep going around in circles. I understanding that I will need this update to load Vista SP1 when available. The problem is that even when I tell User Account Control to allow the install program to run, nothing happens. I contacted Symantec about it, but all they said was that the user control policy is not allowing the installation to run and that I should contact Microsoft about how to fix it so the program can run. View 9 Replies View RelatedProblem: Today I bought a second 22" widescreen monitor, an ASUS VK222H Upon connecting it to my second monitor port and booting, windows claims it was improperly shutdown, and when picking Boot as Normal, it blue screens shortly after before reaching user login. Removing my original monitor and plugging the new ASUS in ONLY, yielded the same improper shutdown message with following BSOD.
Either monitor will boot in safe mode, however only my original viewsonic will make it all the way to login. Everything runs fine with only the Viewsonic connected, but with only the ASUS, or with both, it blows up on me. The BSOD was something along the lines of System_Service_Exception citing a file which I believe was nvlddmkm.sys. I did a bit of googling but did not find anyone, or any answers that had something to do with adding a second monitor, lots of answers about various graphic drivers, but none specific enough that I wanted to start trying any.
I recently got a new computer running Windows Vista and everything is working great except the monitor won't turn off automatically like it should. My Screen Saver starts fine after 3 minutes of inactivity - I'm using the built-in My Pictures Slideshow that shows personal pictures & video clips. But the monitor never turns off even though I have it configured to auto-power off after 30 minutes of inactivity - it just stays
on all day running my screen saver. If I change the screen saver to a different one the monitor turns off after 30 minutes like it should. The problem seems limited to the My Pictures Slideshow screen saver. This is troubling because this same configuration worked fine with Windows XP (the only difference was that XP's My Pictures Slideshow did not include videos - it only showed pictures). Is this just a bug in Vista or is there something I can do to resolve the problem?
I have a broadband connection but when I try to send a message (I am receiving with no trouble) it goes to the Outbox. When I press SEND, a dialup connection dialog box opens and tries to find a dialup connection. I have tried some fixes, such as Tools/Accounts/Connection/Properties, and the Never Dial a Connection radio box is marked but all is greyed out, so I cannot apply it. Also, if I try to open anything else from the Properties box, such as General or Advanced, the procedure goes grey and I get a "Not responding" message.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have my power settings configured ot turn off the monitor after 15 minutes of inactivity. . . but the problem is, if I'm playing a game with my Logitech USB Gamepad, Vista doesn't count the input from the gamepad as 'activity', which is a little puzzling.
Is there a way to get Vista to recognize gamepad input as activity so that it does not turn off my display in the middle of playing my game? I do realize that I can change my power settings to just not turn off the display, but that's inconvenient because then I have to change my settings back when I'm done with the game. As far as I'm concerned, Vista is just not behaving in a reasonable fashion if game controller input doesn't prevent screen blanking.
I am trying to d/l a tv programe, but the Vista Media Player, says "Windows Media Player has a DRM error that prevents iPlayer from downloading and playing programmes." The help says "Either you are told that a "DRM reset is required" or else the Security Upgrade button is greyed out." Where is the Security Upgrade button, if it exists. As I have not seen a message saying DRM reset is required. Having said that if it does need resetting how do I do that.

When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.

I had update 7 running, and got an update notification for Release 10 earlier today. Downloaded and installed the update, tried the Java test page, Firefox (both 3.0.3 and today's Minefield beta-test for Firefox 3.1) hung. Tried the update in IE7, that, too, hung.
Went to Control Panel, clicked on the Java icon, had some problems opening it; when it did finally open, I went into Advanced and found that Update 10 was not recognizing IE. Opened IE, redownloaded the off-line update, to see if that worked; answer is, no, it still did not recognize IE. Back to Java, found the off-line installed for Update 7, removed 10, reinstalled 7; Java works once again. In the midst of this aggravation, trying to figure out what the problem was, I did find one link to an article that said Update 10 had been delayed due to some unspecified problem. Seems to me that, at least for Vista Home Premium, there is still at least one unspecified problem with Update 10.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe last time an update was installed was in January..since the next time i was offered an update, Windows Update or any of the programs that use windows update fail to update. Also i can't download the updates manually..standalone msu installers also dont work.. windows defender, IE8 installations also fail to update. And unfortunately i have deleted the recent system restore checkpoints before i knew about this problem. Windows Update gives error 80070002, i have tried the "solution" to delete temp update files, and all other solutions i could find on the internet. Windows defender gives the same error.
The updates can be downloaded from windows update, but cannot be download (not even manually in .msu package) I also lost many shortcut files of MS Office (the icon turned white and they lost their target). Some shortcuts of 3rd party programs are also lost (which were supposed to be in c:windowsinstallerlabla I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 (SP1 came with the ssytem when i bought it). This is very weird. I have no other choice than to reformat drive and use recovery disk.

I can't switch into safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with Command Prompt and Last Known good configuration. I don't know how to solve this problem because I can't get into any of the modes and even I inserted the installation disc I can't still see any repair computer or what. It will just turn to blank screen with space at the upper left after if i will insert the installation disc.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought vista about 6 months ago, I installed it and everything runs OK. Now i want to have XP AND Vista on the same HDD. I know thats possible with disk partition and i did that but the problem is that i can go further with the installation of my XP home. When i start the installation of XP (press Enter to install XP etc) it asks me to choose a partition, i choose the one i made earlier (25GB of total size). It loads the necesary drivers and it says press enter to reboot(or wait 15 secs to reboot automaticaly). Ok here starts my problem: It reboots, but then i see only a runner and nothing more. ( _ )

says you can boot from CD to install Vista 64 however the previous operating system must not be removed prior to install. In my system Win 2k is on a different hard drive than the one I'm installing to. When I start the install process, on the screen where you select the custom option, it says that upgrade is disabled. I assume this means it did not detect my previous OS? I did not continue from this point.
I can install my Win 2k on the hard drive where I wish to install Vista. In the past however, when I had the previous OS on the C: drive and I installed Vista on the same drive Vista would end up on the next available drive letter (i.e. E. I downloaded Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft website. The installation has gone smoothly up until this point.The screen is stuck on "Installing Service Pack: Stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete.
