Memory Diagnostic Results: Completed Rebooted Back Windows
May 8, 2008
I ran the Memory Diagnostics tool and after it completed and rebooted back into Windows, I didnt see any results. Where do you see the results of the test? I'm trying to diagnose this problem where my PC is rebooting at random, but I can't determine if it's a memory problem or not. So where can I find the results of this test?

she is trying to download Trend PC-cillin virus control program. she has only until May 11 to get it done or she will lose her $49.95. she keeps getting a message that the download cannot be completed while Windows Mail is running. We have everything we can think of; called Trend, was referred to Microsoft and cannot find a thing there to help. How do we get Windows Mail to quit, or shutdown, so the download can be finished? She doesn't even use Windows mail and cannot even find the listing for it on Programs, or in the Add/Delete list in the Control Panel.

I ran Autoruns for Windows and under Task Scheduler it has Windows Disk Diagnostic User Resolver with a Red Circle with a White X inside of it. Image Path C:WindowsSystem32dfdwiz.exe
What concerns me most is that it is "Unticked" to autorun.
a. Should I have this item ticked to run?
b. If so what has caused it to become unticked and now apparently is not running?
c. What are the consequences of placing a tick back beside it to enable it to run?
In the past few days I had some erratic computer problems, but has now seemed to have settled down.

Sorry for posting this in the Vista group, but there are no Windows 7 groups. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. When I try to access my DVDRW drive, my PC crashes. In the Event viewer I see messages like these:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Date: 11/2/2009 9:21:38 PM
Event ID: 41....
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000022 (0x002400d2, 0xb5f174b8, 0xb5f17090, 0x00000000). I'd searched Google and saw that many people have similar crashes, but I couldn't find any related to the DVDRW drives. Plus, I couldn't find any solutions either. I thought this might be a drivers conflict, but I have no idea what it is and how to fix it.

Windows Vista Search is giving me results, just not in the form in which I'd expect. When I search for a particular term, I get, for arguments sake, 1066 results, all of various file types. Around 695 of those results are JPG pictures. If I click on the button to Show Only Pictures, then the details pane shows that there are now only 695 results, but the results don't show. In order for me to see the pictures, I ned to click on All, and then scroll the results until I find the pictures I want. This only happens with when I try to filter a search to show only pictures.

So one day I turned on my computer from a hibernation, and the windows didn't resume correctly, so i dumped the restore and just rebooted. Following that, none of my usb devices worked. In my device manager, under Universal Serial Bus controllers, there are two unknown devices (I uploaded a picture). I've looked all over microsoft support for an update that would help, and I couldn't find anything.

I had 4GB physical memoryon the PC. With Windows vista 32 bit, available memory is shown as 3.3GB. I asked and was told that only under 64 bit windows, will the available memory be 4GB. When I upgraded to windows 7, I chosed 64 bit, but the available memory shown in the system is still 3.3 GB. Why is this and is there a way to make the full 4GB available? It's possible that my video card is using RAM instead of its own RAM. If I install a video card with its own RAM, will the full 4GB be available?

With OE on the old computer when an address was started in the To box the address would be automatically completed. Now in Windows Mail into which my address book has been copied, this only works if I have previously sent the recipient a message. Yes, the the "Automatically complete..." box in Tools has been checked unchecked rechecked & applied.

I can't afford to lose any of my data (who can?), I'd like to have something on my laptop that monitors the hard drive - and any external USB drives. Free is good but I also want quality. Perhaps some readers have suggestions for software for me? Don't worry, I keep an external hard drive for backup and use it often. But, it wouldn't
hurt if I had something to monitor my drives. The external hard drives crap out to often and leave me without a backup until I replace it.

After running the System Health Report from here;
System Health Report
at the System Diagnostic Report, I get a warning advising that the scan failed to detect running anti-virus, anti-spyware etc. protection, here and yet at Start>Control Panel>Security Centre, all protection requirements are shown as up and running, here
is there any way that I can get the scan to recognise the Security protection setup, and so include it in the System Diagnostic Report? I've had no problems with viruses, malware or spyware. This is purely an administrative issue to try and get the System Diagnostic Report to give a true account of the system.

I have the Diagnostic Policy Service (DPS) set to automatically start, but it never shows that it's running. When I try to start it manually, it starts and then stops with a message that says that some services just stop when they are not in use by other programs. There are no error messages on the Event Viewer that are related to this. (Just informational messages showing that it started and another showing that it stopped). This service used to work, but for some unknown reason just decided to quit functioning. Does anyone have a clue as to what's happening? I've Goggled it and have found others that have the same problem, but no solutions were located.

Okay, so I've had this HP Pavilion with Vista 64 bit less than a week (see specs below) and it's much much faster than my old Dell model [with XP] BUT today I was running a scheduled Hardware Diagnostic and it took like 30-40 min. and towards the end of it I tried to change the Power management so it would not go to Screen Saver mode (as it already had) and when I tried to do so, it took like 3 min. for it to open the Control Panel, 3 more minutes to open the Power Options dialogue, 2-3 more minutes to open the sub-menu there, and so forth - altogether about 8-9 minutes to do this simple task of changing Power Options while running hardware diagnostics.
I can understand that Hardware Diagnostics might take a lot of the computer's resources, but THIS is ridiculous! It was like going back to Windows 98 with 256MB RAM. Problem is, I have this*, so it shouldn't be this slow! Should it??? :
*Pavilion a6750y Desktop
AMD Phenom X4 9650 quad core processor
8gigs PC2 6400 DDR2 SDRAM
750 gig SATA Hard Drive (7200 rpm) (with about 650 gigs of space left!)
ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics with 256mb memory
2MB L2 _ 2MB shared L3 Cache memory
Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit
Is there a way I can tweak my memory or ? to make this not happen? Or does my computer have a serious problem?

I recently experienced problems with the software for my Dell AIO 966 printer. On advice from the Dell NG's, I uninstalled all of my USB controllers, and rebooted in the expectation that Windows would detect and reinstall them. To a point, this was successful, but now whenever I boot my system, I get the windows "New hardware found"dialogue. Any, and I do mean ANY, mouse clicks in the dialog area at this point result in my mouse and keyboard being totally frozen.
Device Manager reports all the usual stuff, along with 2 "Unknown Device" entries. The only way I can boot my system now is to wait for the Hardware found diaalog, R-Click the taskbar, and kill the dialog from Task Manager. I usually have to kill it 3 times, at which point all is well. I've replaced the Dell printer that started this nonsense with an Epson Workforce 500, and have no printer problems. I'm obviously way over my head here folks.

It came installed with vista home premium but yesterday i bought the vista ultimate upgrade dvd. I inserted the dvd and upgraded as per instructions. It was completed without any problems.I've installed all important updates and rebooted the computer many times.
Now my laptop runs really slow, takes a longer time to boot up -about 3 or 4 mins now. In my sidebar i have a CPU meter and usually both cores run at less than 50 percent but now it jumps around 90-100%?? The graph looks like a lie detector when charles manson answered no to the question if he killed anyone?!

I bought a new dell vostro about a month ago, pre-installed with windows vista home premium 32bit. All has been going well with it until Wednesday night when for some reason whilst using messenger the program froze, went light grey and a timer came up in place of the pointer.(i have a vague recollection of seeing a pop up regarding the power supply to the computer - not sure what it was) nothing else would work on the comp, ctrl/alt/del did not work so I couldn't force application to quit. Eventually just held power button until system rebooted. Since this first happened the computer continually freezes with no way of closing down programs, have tried a system restore, but even that process stalls and doesn't complete. Have tried uninstalling McAfee in case that was causing it but to no avail. I loaded up windows in safe mode which seemed to work fine, although the system restore was unavailable in safe mode. At the time it was downloading an 80mb vista update, which is yet to finish, again in safe mode the vista update was not running. The freezes occur with random programs, not just one particular one Anyone got any ideas of what the problem is and how to fix it, got a lot of uni work needing done outside of work hours and not having use of this computer is really annoying.

Just got a nice wireless keyboard and mouse. Problem is, when the machine is rebooted, these devices dont work anymore. I have to unplug the USB cable of the remote sensing unit, and plug it back in to get the devices to work. Needless to say, this is a pain. This is a Micro Innovations wireless keyboard and mouse, and Im using the latest Vista drivers (according to them).

I am running Vista on a Dell D630. My docking station works fine if I boot up with the notebook docked. And my system works fine if I un-dock it. However, if I re-dock the system while the system is turned on (either in standby or awake), some of the time the re-dock will be unsuccessful. By "unsuccessful," I mean that nothing comes up on my monitor (CRT), and there is no way to "wake up" my screen so I can resume working on my system. Even if I undock my system at this point, I can't get the LCD screen to turn back on. So I end up needing to hold down the power button and do a cold re-boot. It drives me crazy. Yesterday it happened FOUR times (every time I came back to my desk and re-docked my system). Does anyone have any
recommendations?
