I can see my old emails but I can not receive any new ones. I keep getting this box that asks me to logon to mail.comcast.net and asks me to verify that both the username and password are correct for my mail server. I enter the info but still nothing.

I have set up email account with another available on-line source and no longer want to be available with the comcast e-mail program. View 4 Replies View RelatedWell after several years of using port 25 for Comcast email my laptop suddenly stopped sending out mail. After a little tinkering I realized that if I used port 587 for outgoing mail all is well.
My question is why did this occur on just my laptop and not my PC? They both are on the same router and I'm pretty diligent with keeping Windows updated, spyware sweeps, virus definitions, etc. What controls this process of disabling port 25 for outgoing mail? I would doubt if Comcast could even see or reach my laptop. You'd think that such a change would be widespread or at the least force me to use port 587 on both of my computers. I should point out that one pc uses Vista while the other is running XP.
I am new to Vista. I want to have my comcast email forward into Windows Mail. How do I do this?

I am having an issue after recently obtaining Comcast as my ISP (i am receiving mail but unable to send). I am formerly a bellsouth.net customer, but would like to continue using Windows mail. I have read and followed several different threads and nothing is working...I am connceted to the internet wirelessly..did not have to install Comcast cd....email scanning is off...what else can I try?

Today I logged on after not being on for a week and now windows security is asking for a logon name and password. What the heck happened? I have been slowly downloading the updates and yes I am behind in downloading them. I am on dialup so it takes a while to download them. Is this some type of new security? I have the vista premium and I'm trying to set up the win fax for cable, through comcast in spokane wa. I have three fax pending and not sent. It says that I have to set it up on the server. I have no clue about setting it up, and I am the system admin on my personal computer. The other issue is the dialing rules do not work. I do not want the win fax to dial +1 for a local number.

I have it plugged directly into the comcast modem but get the "local access only" message that seems to be such a problem for wireless users. When doing ipconfig /renew I get a message stating that windows could not contact the dhcp server. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the modem as it works fine with XP and Linux machines. Everything I have found related is talking about wireless issues and I've tried the registry edit provided by MS for setting the dhcp flag value to 1 and also disabled IPv6 and power options in the adapter configuration.

Just today I activated Windows Mail and now all my email from Comcast is coming into Windows Mail, which is what I wanted, but now my Comcast email is empty. So I guess all my email is just being re-directed. My question is when I am not at my computer but on a public computer, how can I access my email? I normally just log onto Comcast.net and go to my email but now none of my mail is in there? Did I do something wrong during set-up? Can I fix this? Or is this just the way it is.
View 7 Replies View RelatedTwo nights ago, my Vista system started to behave in a bizarre fashion. Clicking on an desktop icon would bring up not just one window, but a dozen or more windows. That window would lock up making it difficult to close. Task manager invocation from the command bar would only appear momentarily. The start icon also just flashed for a second, then off. I finally was able to invoke task manager with cntrl-alt-delete and kill the open windows. This behavior persisted even after rebooting the machine.
I ran my up to date AVG and no viruses were found. Strangely, after one day, this weird behavior went away as quickly as it came on. I called Comcast thinking it may be something in the network causing the problem. They re provisioned my modem, but the problem was still there. My question is what brought on this behavior, an operating system quirk, bad handshakes with Comcast, or whatever. Unfortunately, I did not have my error logs turned on. I have done so now and if the problem re-appears, I might get some info from them.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a little workgroup. I have a printer server running 2000 Pro, 5 PCs running XP, and 2 Laptops running Vista. I can print and access the files in the 2000 Pro server from any XP PC. From both Laptops running vista I can see all the computers in the workgroup, I can also see the files and use the printer of any PC running XP. The problem is between Vista and 2000 Pro. I can access files in the Vista Laptops from the 2000 Pro Server, but I can not see any shared folder or use any printer in the 2000 Pro Server from the Vista Laptops. Each time I try to connect to the 2000 Pro Server from the Vista laptops I get a logon dialog box; I defined in the 2000 Pro server the same users I have in the Vista laptops (I did't do so for the XP PCs and they work just fine) and no matter what user I use to logon (I try to use also the 2000 Pro administrator user) I always get a "Logon Unsucessful" error.

I want to get rid of it from my welcome screen so I looked and went into the Fingerprint Reader Suit, clicked on Settings, then System Settings, got a pop up window, clicked on the Logon tab to try and switch from Fingerprint Logon to Standard Windows Log on but that screen is greyed out and it doesn't allow me to switch off the Fingerprint Logon!!!! How do I change it and delete the icon from my welcome screen!!?

This works fine on all our XP clients but not on our Vista clients, even though the printers have been configured with vista drivers on the print server. When logging on to a Vista client, the printers are not installed and the following message is displayed:
"To use the shared printer \printserverprintername, you need to install the printer driver on your computer. If you do not recognize or trust the name and location of the printer, do not install the driver." The user then has the option to Install the driver, but it requires administrative access to do so (our users are not admins).
This is how to configure the logon screensaver to use PhotoScreensaver to display images at the Windows Vista logon screen.
1. Begin with a new Vista image.
2. Put the PC on the network and logon as Administrator.
3. Right click on the new desktop, click Personalize, Screen saver
4. Select Photos and change the Wait time to 1 minute (for quicker test)
5. Click Preview to make sure it works, click Apply, OK
6. Wait 1 minute and allow the Screen saver to run once.
7. Escape out of the Screen saver and return to the logged on desktop.
8. Click Start, in the Search bar type Regedit and open the Registry editor.
9. Expand HKEY_USERS
10. Expand the top S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxx-xxxxx-xxxx key
11. Navigate down to SoftwareMicrosoftWindows Photo GallerySlideshowScreensaver
12. Right click on FolderPath and Modify to C:UsersPublicPictures
13. Navigate back up to SoftwareMicrosoftWindows Photo Gallery
14. Right click on the Windows Photo Gallery key and click Export and give it the name of Photo and save to the desktop
15. Navigate back to HKEY_USERSS-1-5-21xxxx-xxxxControl PanelDesktop
16. Right click on the Desktop key and click Export and give it the name of 521Desktop and save to the desktop
17. Close Regedit and return to the Desktop
18. Right click on the exported Photo.reg and click on Edit
19. When the file opens in Edit mode, highlight the entire S-1-5-21-xxxxx-xxxx string and copy (Ctrl+C)
20. Click on Edit, Replace
21. In Find what: press Ctrl+V to enter the entire S-1-5-21-xxxx key name
22. In Replace with: enter .DEFAULT (yes, include the dot)
23. Click File, Save as and name the edited file DefaultPhoto (needs to remain .reg NOT .txt)

27. Right click on the PhotoDefault.reg file (on the Desktop) and click Merge, Continue, Yes, OK
28. Right click on the Photo519.reg file (on the Desktop) and click Merge, Continue, Yes, OK
29. Right click on the 519Desktop.reg file (on the Desktop) and click Merge, Continue, Yes, OK
30. Right click on the DefaultDesktop.reg file (on the Desktop) and click Merge, Continue, Yes, OK
31. Continue in Regedit and Expand HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelDesktop
32. In the Desktop settings (in the right pane) Right click on ScreenSaveTimeOut and Modify the time to desired length of time

Just starting to look at Vista, but one thing that I haven't figured out is how to change the login. In XP Pro, if you went to user accts in control panel, you could choose to change the way users log on and log off, that way it didn't come up with the list of users on the machine, but worked like a domain login where you had to input your username and password.
I can't figure out how to change this on a stand alone Vista machine. I don't want the list of users, I just want to hit ctrl-alt-del and get a sign on screen where I input the username and password. Is this possible, and how/where do I make this change? Again, it is Vista Ultimate.

Ive been having problems with my laptop just recently, it was sudden! I had no problem whatsoever with it before, its an acer aspire 5630, ive never had major problems with it and its almost two years old! This is my first major problem, When i try to logon it says 'Profile cannot be loaded' Ive read everything possible on the internet from my desktop to try and find out what to do, most mentioned safe mode, this is another problem, my safe mode Does not work!
I can get into safe mode but as soon as i do it comes up with a black screen that says safe mode in every corner! Looking thru the computer for unwanted or unneeded apps I came across under Task Scheduler Summary a task named "Secunia PSI Logon Task" (last run failed, etc), there are multiple instances under it w/no dates. Strange, if no program installed how can it run? Did find it in the library; program is on the computer but not installed, why would it still be attempting to run or check for updates if not installed?
Also "NAP Status UI (last run was stopped at, etc with multiple entries sublisted which is not in the library but google says that it for network admin for Windows 7. Could it also appy to Vista somehow?
Im new to computers and I got given a laptop running Vista Home Basic. I forgot the password at logon and now the laptop doesnt allow me to go any further than the Password input page at start-up. Is there any way I can bypass the password bit?
Ive tried starting up in safe mode, all that does is present me with the same problem. I did notice the bios screen states the password enabler is set to disabled. Does that mean anything? How do i enable it?
I've created a new user account but can't log into it - I always get the message "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User Profile cannot be loaded". I can log into all other user accounts. I am wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that I removed a user and then deleted the users's folder and all the files in that folder including NTUSER.dat file. Is there something I need to do to be able to log into the new user account(s)?

She bought a Laptop using Vista and set it up with one user account around 2 months ago. She is not computer literate and barely knows how to switch it on. It has taken her up till now to switch it on for the second time as she just got broadband installed at her home. The problem we now have is that she has forgotten the password she created and cannot logon to the system. I am not familiar with Windows Vista and was unable to advise her how to logon using the default Administrator account. It seems Vista is much different from XP in this respect. Can anyone advise me if I can access the default admin account on the logon screen or if there is another way to reset the password without talking her through a system restore. She didn't create password reset disks.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently did a clean install of Vista Ultimate. When I ran setup it asked for a name and choose a picture. Every start-up since then brought me directly to my desktop. I installed Office Ultimate a few days ago and now when I start up it consistently takes me to the welcome screen and forces me to choose "Administrator" or the name I typed during install. I have UAC disabled, but I'm not sure that has an impact here as it booted fine before. Outside of system restore, is there a way to regain my 'normal' start-up again?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to create a "system account" in vista 64 bit Ultimate. It's just a user account, it will have a profile but 99% of the time no one will log in interactively with this account, more often with just the RunAs option.
Once I created this account though, I have another icon for it on the logon screen! How can I get rid of this icon? I don't want other people who use this PC to log on like that.
It's a normal local account, non domain environment. I was hoping to find a "Do not display a logon icon" checkbox where you change the icon pic or something simple.
