Media Centre generally works well for me in Vista Home Premium except for a fairly continuous stutter in sound and vision when watching live digital TV (Freeview) and concurrently using several windows in Explorer/IE - especially when scrolling in IE.
Is this performance to be expected with such a set-up - or are there adjustments I could make to overcome the problem, such as prioritising the processing of the TV receiver signals?
I am experiencing an interrmittent problem in Vista 64. When i am watching a film (normally via Videolan player) or gaming online I experience occassional second/two second long glitches where the sound and video of the media i am watching freezes for a split second. This causes a buzzing sound (presumably this is the audio stuttering). It isn't lag and the play back is not constantly choppy. The files (gaming and video) are played from my hard drives not my DVD drive. My OS is on a 250GB Seagate SATA II HDD and i have various other HDD as storage. accepted as it is driving me nuts. I have spent a lot of money on this new rig and am pretty tempted to go back to XP...I have the latest drivers for everything also.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is about my fifth build, and it went great: loaded up the OS and updated all drivers (using only 2 GB RAM), started (cautiously) loading up all my software, taking care to only load software that had 64 bit driver support, as far as I could tell. I am a graphic designer and creative director, so I use Adobe CS3 and Office and game a little. Use Skype very frequently. First off, SoundBlaster had no 64 bit support (I have never had much confident in Creative), so I simply took out the card and thought I might wait or scratch it.
More importantly, the system freezes. Hangs. Stalls, what-have-you. Just stops and needs a hard reboot. Any sounds playing at the time would stutter like a broken cd. I tried many things and am not overclocking. Eventually, needing to get work done, I simply figured there wasn't enough 64 bit driver support and yesterday fresh installed the 32 bit Vista using the alternate DVD that came in the package. Unfortunately, the system is behaving in exactly the same way.
I have seen reference to "live" windows applications. Where can I find out what this is all about. Does "live" have any special meaning or is it simply a marketing term.

currently use AVG Internet Security, for 3 home computers, all running Vista.
I'd like to know if Onecare is something I should give up the AVG for. I have
a subscription with AVG through Feb of next year, (paid for) so I don't want
to give it up unless there is particulary good benefit from it.
Could someone give a review of these two programs?
I uninstalled Vista SP1 for several reasons. Live OneCare keeps telling me I need to "Install missing updates." Is there any way I can tell OneCare NOT to alert me about the SP1 update?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a regular Soundblaster Live! soundcard (not SBLive! 5.1) with the expansion daughter card connected to the orignal Creativelabs 4.1 speaker setup. The card is on black PCB and has gold-plated connectors. This is from back in the days when this combo was the top of the line. Currently I have Vista x32 and am considering moving to x64 to use the full 4GB of RAM I have. However I am concerned there are no drivers for this. Right now I am using the modified KxDrivers 3538m which I get full quadrophonic sound and can adjust it anyway I want like the creative control panels. I don't believe this is compatible with x64. All the "fixes" I see on a simple Google search are for SBLive! 5.1,Audigy,X-Fi, etc.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've come upon a problem and I dread calling MS support. I have found nothing useful (without paying a subscription) on the net. I have Vista U x64 and a Hauppage WinTV1600. Everything was working fine for a couple months, but now I cannot play Live TV as I get this error. "Cannot Play Video: The file is currently in use by another application and cannot be played. Please try again later." Well, later is now over a week. I can still record tv and all other functions, no other issues at all.
I can't exactly pin down when it started due to a 2 week period of not watching live tv or what software (if any) could have caused it. I also tried the maintanence feature of MCE, but did not correct it. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience to this issue? I'm not sure what "file" or "application" could be doing this. I do have Nero 7 Essentials installed and uninstalled Cyberlink DVD in case, but I'm just swatting flies with these thoughts.
I uninstalled (using the removal tool) Norton and installed OneCare on a trial basis. Do I need any additional spyware with this? Spybot, for example.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed an update that included the latest version of Live Mail and am absolutely amazed at the result. Surely they are kidding? In newsgroups now for some reason, new items have only the author (From) field highlighted with bold text and the subject and other fields just in normal text. The result is that when you receive new items in watched threads, you cannot see which thread it is that has the new items unless you go through and expand each one manually! Surely this is a bug in my setup and can't really be like this?

when I pressed the download button, I saw the file was named wlsetup-web.exe. Does this mean that to install Mail, I will first be installing the framework for installing any other Live applications I may want in the future? That is, is this like installing only Word from the Office suite?
i have a hewlett packard computer thahas vista home edition in the motherboard. and windows live keeps opening itself over and over and over sometimes it tries to open 5 copies of itself at once. and i have done several spyware scans with several different pograms including norton, adaware, spybot, mcaffe and windows defender. i and spyware free on my hard drive yet this progran will not leave me alone!
if i play a game.. it closes out me gaming window every 3 seconds some times demading my attention if i am surfuing the internet it will over ride my keyboard and make itself the formost window. if i close the program out completley it restarts itself and will try to run 5 copies of itself at once.............
I can't get used to the current wishy-washy version of Live Mail (version 14 I believe) and would like to get the previous version (12) back. Does anyone know whether it can still be downloaded please and if so where from? If I find someone who still has the original installation.exe file and could get them to email it to me would it work? And is there by any chance such a kind person on this forum?

Almost wonder if that is what MS want and therefore dont fix WM. In Windows Live Mail, is there any way of sizing or moving the list of email accounts which dominates the whole of the left hand column? I have many accounts and having them take up so much space is just awful. It's the huge account headers that cause the problem - really bad design. Also, how does one get buttons for the common functions onto the menu bar? Or is this impossible and yet another bad design flaw? Why on earth don't MS provide OE for Vista? There was nothing wrong with it and the demand for it seems enormous.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen ever I first sign in, whenever I open an IM window or get an IM, whenever I do anything in Live Messenger it freezes for like 20 seconds and then I can use it. After it freezes it won't freeze again until I come back into it. So if I minimize it or open Firefox or IE and then come back, it freezes for like 20 seconds again.
Why is it doing this? I have no idea why... it just does. It did it even before my last format of my HD. I run Vista Ultimate SP1 with all available updates before SP2 including most optional updates except for Dreamscene, sound schemes, and extra games. Also, I have used Windows to delete games and printer services since I never play the games and do not use a printer. I run the latest version of Live Messenger and have NOT modded it or used any sort of cracks on it. I read on another forum that there's a crack for it that does something and it can cause this, just wanted to make it clear that this is the original version from the website.
Is Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail the same program. If different what is the advantage of Windows Live Mail. What is the Windows Live and what is its advantage.

I was able to uninstall the updates but the problems are still occuring. I currently use 2 Anti-Virus programs, Kaspersky, and AVG both legit copies, and they come out clean. Ive also been using Registry Mechanic. As Well when I tried to do a system restore... it was saying i have never done one which I found really odd... especially since ive had this PC for 1-2yrs now.
Im a First timer for PC games and Exspeically Halo for PC, but anyways i got this game when i bought my PC from www.cyberpower.com (good PCS) but the game i got with it is a bit confuseing because it tells me to sign in to windows live (first time encountering this site) i know its used for Xbox Live but i do not own one, but i made an account and the game loaded up and :::....
(steps on what it did and i did)
Step1: I Clicked the "live" option
Effect: it told me to choose your Profile, so i did
Step 2: I finally got through all the "join live" registration but yet it keeps asking me NOTE (im online during all this).
Effect: i waited for the windows live registration to pop up and then soon after i pulled the halo game screen back up and it went to full screen it said "sign in to LIVE" so i did and submitted, soon after it said "downloading profile (this could take a few minutes) and, it finally did it and it ASKED ME TO UPDATE HALO 2 or else it will sign me out and as i did it simply told me it was unable to update and told me to check my connection.
