View 9 RepliesI am having problems importing contacts into Vista Contacts. I tried 2 things :
1/ LDIF
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under an LDIF format.
I then imported this LDIF file within Contacts
The import stops 1/5 of the way, simply saying that there is an error
in the contacts, and it stays stuck
2/ CVS
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under a CVS file. I then tried to import the file within Contacts but cannot do the mapping:
- all column headings are lumped together, with plenty of ","
- all accentuated caracters are replaced by squares
Also, with the LDIF method, 50 contacts out of 300 were imported. In these imported contacts, all accentuated caracters were replaced by symbols. I opened the CVS file in Microsoft Excel: everything is fine.
Forgive me, but I am new to Vista and Windows Live Mail. I set up my Contacts folder by importing addresses from Outlook Express (.wab file). However, when creating a message from within Windows Live Mail, not all of the Contacts are shown there. I placed the Contacts folder on my desktop for easy access, and when I look there, the addresses that I am missing are shown. It's as if the Windows Live Mail software is using another Contacts folder. I checked the Options tab under Tools to see if the address source requires identification, but could not find such a reference.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to export my contacts from my computer to my second computer. Both computers use Windows Mail. I tried exporting the contacts as CSV and vCard files. Using both methods, I was able to import my contacts into my second computer but they weren't neatly organized in files: i.e. business contacts, personal contacts, family, etc. Is there a way to export my contacts so they are still in the correct files and are neatly organized?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Outlook 2003 on my computer which has Vista Ultimate so I could use a Dell Axim. Now when I go to fax a document using Windows Fax and Scan and try to select a contact, Outlook Contacts is displayed instead of Windows Contacts. It won't let me choose to use Windows Contacts either. I tried using Default Programs to associate Windows Contacts with it's defaults but that didn't work.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for hours, now. My problem is that the contacts fields get all mixed up because they were outlook and them gmail, and now back to outlook 2007. But when I try to export them to Windows Vista Contacts I loose all information. My outlook 2007 is a trial version and will expire next time I turn it on, so I have to get it done today.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am a Windows XP user who has just purchased a laptop that has windows vista on it. I also use gmail as my main e-mail address with outlook express. What I would like to do, is take everything I have on XP's Outlook Express (I mean, Address Book, Account Settings, RULES, and message) and get them on Windows Mail so they are still functioning. I have been able to bring my messages and folders over, however now my Windows Mail is downloding all 3,500 e-mails that my Gmail account has left on it, and it is not sorting them in the least. Rather than go through and make more rules, is there a way I could import my rules to the new Windows Mail? Also, it is not greatly important that I have my contacts saved, as I have an e-mail from everyone of them and I can re-add them if possible, but I had nearly 40 rules that I really don't want to have to try to re-add. (Not to mention I haven't yet been able to add a single rule, as the Create rule from message button is greyed out.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a new PC (even though it has the crap Vista on it - I had no choice!!). I am now trying to export my EMail messages from OE5 on my old PC into Windows Mail on my new PC and I can't work out how to do it. Does anybody know or have I lost all the messages I have accumulated over the last 5 years. Also, what is wrong with this crap mail program? I have to close it down to refresh the folders view - every time I create a new folder or read my new EMails - what's going on and why are the evil MS selling stuff to us before testing it. Would I be better off in either of these situations using MS Outlook instead.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHow do I get my emails from XP Outlook to Vista WinMail? I thought I had backed up my emails in both Vista and Outlook, but when I try to import them it says that the folders are empty, which they are not. The Outlook folders have files with .DBX extensions and the Vista folder has files with numbered files. Can't I somehow just copy these files into the Vista mail store?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the Vista program Windows Contacts in conjunction with using email programs. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I like to use Outlook 2000 as my email program. I have the same problem if I use Windows Mail as my email program. I can use Outlook to send and receive email, but I cannot add any contacts to Windows Contacts. Also when creating a new email, if I click on the To… button to get to Windows Contacts, I get the error message “The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If this problem persists, restart Outlook.”, which of course does not help.
I am not sure, but I think I created the problem by importing Outlooks 2000 contacts from my old PC in an improper format into Outlook 2000 on my new Vista PC (which is where the problem is).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a all in 1 card reader and it has worked flawlessly for over two years on a XP computer. I recently got a new computer with Vista and every time I try to import my photos I get many warnings that some of the photos can't be imported due to errors. In the dialog box that lets you watch the progress of your photos being imported the photos that are OK have little thumbnails and the photos that have errors appear as tropical landscape animations or something.
I'm losing so many photos? At first I thought it was the card - I formatted it and tried again to no avail. I switched cards and the same thing happened.
having issues importing data from my Outlook Express 6.0 account to Outlook 2003. The move is necessary because my previous laptop is no longer bootable. I can access the data however, via my new laptop. Since I can?t boot the old drive, I can?t run Outlook Express data (so that I can export the data). The previous drive hard-drive ran XP. The new laptop runs Vista which makes Outlook Express unavailable. Is it possible to find the right files to move from the old hard-drive to the new one?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am new to Vista. I have tried importing .avifiles from my DV video camera into Movie maker. It only plays the audio . When I first downloaded these files they would not play the video in media player but after I downloaded a codec both audio & video are playing in the media player. I was hoping that this would fix the problem in Movie Makler but it still will not show the video files. I have some video clips from a recent wedding and need to edit these before creating a movie.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to import my outlook pst file into my Windows Mail, but I haven't been succeeded. Whenever I try to click on "File > Import > Messages... > Microsof Outlook " a pop up window appears to me warning me about a MAPI driver problem (it is not installed). I have already tried to download an Outlook 2007 trial version in order to solve this problem, but I didn't work. Does anybody know how to solve this problem? The emails I have in the pst files are very imporant and I really need to import them to Windows Mail.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've read all of the posts here and not one of them help at all. I'm looking on how to import outlook express email accounts into windows mail. I can import the email messages just fine, but not my 15 email accounts. I have created a folder and stored this onto the windows vista machine, named: Outlook Express Email Accounts.
When I go to: Tools => Accounts => Import. A box appears that says "Import Internet Account". I select one of the Outlook Express 6's *.iaf files and I constantly get this error: "The import did not complete because an error occurred." What's causing this and how do I fix this frustrating problem.
I've attempted to send my old contact list to 'Windows mail' but have not been successful at this point. What am I doing wrong?
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I click "File - Import - Messages - Microsoft Outlook" I get the following error message: "Messages can not be imported from the MAPI client". I would also like to import my contacts.pst but am not sure what format to use. My old hard drive died. Outlook.pst; Contacts.pst; and Archive2008.pst were recovered and put on a CD. I transferred Outlook.pst and Contacts.pst to my new Vista C: drive.
I could not transfer Archive2008. It said "Can not read from source file or disk", then it goes away. I guess the earlier archives couldn't be retrieved. I am getting very frustrated. MS says to contact the computer mfg, ACER says it can't help me, call MS. MS will charge me for help. I just bought this stupid computer with Vista and nobody will help me after they have their money.
I had a problem with my Windows Mail, all of the sudden I could not get my mail to show up in the inbox so I signed up for Windows Live Mail to see if I could just export everything to it but it did not work. I now have a Windows Live import box stuck on my Desktop that I cannot get rid of and I cannot get into my Windows Mail anymore. The windows live is working well but I just want to get to my old e-mails and my contacts , is this possible?
