View 5 RepliesI just picked up a Toshiba Satellite A305 Home Premium 64bit SP1 (best buy). A couple little bugs I would like help with though. I was playing with the on screen keyboard and now I cant get it to stop opening up on start up. I have tried to check/un-check the box for it, apply/OK nothing seems to keep it off. FIXED. While we are at it how about adding a icon for IE or Firefox to the task bar they isappeared with the 3D flip icons. If I drag anything down there I only get a red circle with a line through it.--FIXED

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've tried everything to try to reduce my on-screen KB to it's default size,
including 'system restore (4 times), which failed for some reason, shutting
the whole thing off, restarts, etc. I have no idea what I did & it currently
falls off the 18" x 20" screen so that I can hardly find the menu to 'exit'!
I cannot deactivate the on screen keyboard. Occasionally there is an arrow next to it and I de-select and push apply but with no luck. More often than not there is no arrow in the box next to it and then when I log in to my user there it is again. This is exceptioanlly annoying for I only pushed on it the first time just to see what it look like.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have searched this newsgroup (as well as Google) and have found many items which are similar to this situation, but nothing quite exactly the same.
In my office I have 9 of the exact same computer (Dell Optiplex 755),all with the exact same software setup (Vista Enterprise 32bit).This issue is happening on only 1 of the computers (which leads me to believe that this is NOT a driver problem).
The user has her computer set to require a password when the screensaver is activated (normal windows screen saver, not some 3rd party program).
When the screen saver is activated, it locks the computer and the monitor goes black. All is well.
When she is ready to unlock it, she hits alt-cntl-del. 7 out of 8 times, the screen comes back to the logon screen where she can type in her password, and unlock the computer. But 1 time out of 8, the monitor will be totally black except for the arrow for the cursor.
She can move the mouse around fine (indicating the computer itself is ot toasterized).
Things we have tried:
* about 1/2 the time, unplugging the video plug from the computer and
plugging it back in will restore the picture (note that simply turning
the monitor off then back on *never* works).
* typing her password on the black screen will sometimes work (my guess
is that the prompt is in the right place)
Other than this issue, the computer works fine (meaning there aren't
other symptoms that indicate other problems).
My laptop started freezing up some times lately, but yesterday I turned it on and got the Blue Screen. Now, whenever I turn it on, it boots directly into Safe Mode. Problem is, at the login screen it will NOT recognize my keyboard or mouse, making it impossible for me to login. I have confirmed that my mouse and keyboard are fine because they work when I launch the boot menu. I have run Startup Repair countless times, chkdsk a couple of times, but nothings working. I have the Vista CD that came with my laptop but I would really rather not completely reinstall Vista because I have many important documents and family photos that I have not backed-up.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried to search for a solution for this problem but i dont know how to word the query. So i restart my machine and every things going good video display and i can press del to get into the bios, i can move around in there and change whatever. Once vista loads the keyboard and mouse still are receiving power (lights are still on) but are non responsive. Ive tried reseting the cmos and puting everything back to defaults in the bios menu but to no avail. The weird thing is that it happened out of no where. It was working fine and my roommate (and i believe him) came home turned it on to find these problems. Its seems like all my onboard input/output connectors are not working.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo last night my bat-out-of-hell cat jumped on my table and knocked over a glass of red wine. Most of the wine went under my laptop but some amount splashed onto the keyboard and screen. At first, my computer showed no signs of a problem and I have never spilled on a computer ever so I didnt know what to do. About an hour later my screen started flickering on and off (from black to the screen image) it started with just a flicker or two in a couple of minutes to every other second or more. I turned the computer off and took a blow dryer to it for under an hour and then let it dry overnight. In the morning, I turned the computer on and it booted without issue except that the screen resolution changed (as it often does after booting with the screen closed or open) and then the flickering started again. I turned it off and blow dried it again for some time and I will leave it off for at least a week but any ideas/suggestions for what I should do next. Does it seem like something is already fried and I need to contact the manufacturer for a fix? Is there anything else I should do?

View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows Vista Ultimate. Display turns off after about fifteen minutes regardless of whether I am actively using the computer or not. The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email. Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working. What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am embarrassed to ask it. Previously I had WindowsXP on my laptop - to turn it off you went to Start, Turn Off Computer. This laptop is using Vista, and I cannot find anything comparable. Last night I turned it off using the off-on button, so got the Windows did not shut off properly message when I turned it on; and I have a "thing" about leaving my computer on overnight. Also, is there a way of hiding all the command bars to "hide" like you can with the taskbar on the bottom?

pressing the keys feels the same as normal, nothing sticky yet when writing it 'sticks'. or i have to type very very slowly to get a letter out.sometimes it works ,sometimes it wont but then will give me many of the same letter in a row ie repeating it depending on how many times i've pressed..

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just recently built a new PC and I am installing windows home premium 64 bit for the first time on a PC. When installing vista everything was normal until there was a reboot in the installation. After the reboot it sent me to a windows error recovery screen where I am unable to select anything using the keyboard. The default selection is start windows normally so I wait for the countdown to finish because I have no other choice. Then it boots up and says the following:
The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. So I click ok because once again I have to. Note: The keyboard is working again. This continues over and over again so I tried to reinstall windows again. I get the PC to boot from the DVD drive by using my keyboard and then it says: Press any key to boot from CD or DVD.
I am having a keyboard problem on the new computer. My keyboard [Logitech Cordless Desktop Comfort Laser] does not work when I run Vista Ultimate x64 normally. Every time I try to type in IE or Firefox, the program stops responding and then I restart the program and it yields the same results. I know the keyboard is not defective because I am using it right now in Safe mode and it is working fine. I have downloaded the Logitech Setpoint App. 64 bit version but there still is not any luck.

I write document in english and spanish, so I have to use the US and the US-International keyboard layout. I have the keyboard bar active and use it to change layouts. The problem is the keyboard layout changes "by himself" constantly. I thought this was attached to the program I'm using, or the document, but it's not.
For example, I'm writing a WinWord 2007 document using the Intl layout, and using accents and everything. Suddenly, I try to use another accent or symbol, and it doesn't work. If I check the language bar, it changed to US Standard layout. I disabled the shortcuts to change layouts, so this is not the problem (I mean, accidentally hitting the shortcut...)
