How To Logout & Relogin With New User Name

I am using a Vista computer as a file server in our office. I have a few log in names, but once I am logged in, everytime I go to the server it automatically grants access, so I never get a chance to change my logout or log in under another name. I need to reboot my computer before it will again ask me for a login name and password. How can I log out of the server or force the server to ask me for a login and pass word again without having to reboot my computer?

I have a laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium x64 with 340gb of extra memory, and 4gb of ram, and out of absolutely nowhere, I started to get this problem. I am the only user of this computer, guest account is disabled, and I'm the administrator.
Basically, I turn on the computer.
I login to my account. Great. Computer loads up as normal.
I close the laptop to put in my bag or something. By default, I have required to reenter the password to log back in once I open the computer again. BUT if when I type in the password to log back in, I get a message that says "Your Account Has Been Disabled. Please See Your System Administrator"
This happens if I log out of my account, or if I press switch user, and go back in my account.
I don't use internet on the laptop so I know I do not have any virus issues...I did run my virus scan once to make sure and it got nothing...
I suppose I could just require my computer to not need a password if I wake it from Sleep, but still, I shouldn't have to resort to that.
Does anyone else know what I should do? System restore maybe?

[This is my second post on the same subject. The first thread died] I had this Vista Home Basic machine working okay, but the power went out and then another person who was high used the machine. They named a new user as administrator. I don't know what else they did.
Now I have a new user as administrator and the previous users are gone. I still see evidence of them in the file tree but the old programs are gone and the documents are buried in C > Users > Admin (that was a name of a previous user that I had named when I first got the machine) I've gradually installed some of my old programs and I'm currently
just rebuilding everything, but it would be a lot easier if I could revert to the old user system. The Control Panel > add or remove user accounts is useless. I only have two icons there So is there anyway to return to the original condition? How can I recover the missing users?

Received my computer back yesterday from HP with reinstalled clean version of Vista Home Premium. It came back with a user name of 'test'. I attempted to change the name to my name "Bob Lafayette" and the user name in task manager under user shows up as "BOBLAFAYETTE est". In System Information the user name shows as BOBLAFAYETTE est
In user profiles the administrator shows as Bob Lafayette. The computer name shows as "BobLafayette." Computer description shows as "Bob's Computer." How can I amend the user name in task manager to reflect solely "BobLafayette"? Without the "test"?

Customer PC, Toshiba, Visa Home Premium with Sp1. 2 users C and J. C can always log on. If J trys to log on, whether immediately after restart or after C has logged on, the Welcome message comes up for about 10 seconds and the Logging Off and back to Log On screen. C can log on after this butJ never can. have turned off Unauthorised Software check in Trend Micro Pc-Cillin 2008.

I have just bought a second hand laptop (once again!). I have changed the user name on it to my name (kasim). But the problem is that when i go to Computer and then Users, the user name is still the same as before. The only settings that are on my name is the start menu. Can u please help me change the user name in every setting.

I am operating on VISTA HOME PREMIUM. Can I get rid of my USER PICTURE, and the frame that goes with it, and only display my username and the password box when I log on.
I installed LOGON STUDIO VISTA and created a beautiful background. The user photo with the screen is NASTY!

I have two programs that need to run on boot up. In both cases I get prompted to allow. Can I turn this prompt off for particular users by turning UAC off? Or does it turn off for everyone? Can UAC be configured to be off for JUST these two programs?

before this i try to install vista on my machine. and for sure in that time we need to create user (adminstrator) before we start using the vista. after that, i try to keep an image for my vista because if anything happen, it will be more easier to me. then, i try to image on my machine again. but, there already have i user which mean the administrator that i create during the 1st installation. so, when i do the image, i need to put the different user name because the user name that i try to create already exist. so that will create 2 different user when imaging is done. is there any way how to delete the 1st user? so when imaging is done, it will only 1 user (new user) and the windows will be automatically show the desktop. (i know how to delete from control panel>user account). actually this is for my client.

the special junctions that Vista and Win7 have added to the profile directories for backwards-compatibility. No backup software I have seen (short of complete imaging software) seems to backup and/or restore junction points. So I find myself with the profile missing all the default junction points, and quite frankly, not sure how to manually recreate them. No matter what I do, I cannot seem to replicate the Vista/Win7's original junctions that are hidden when "Hide Protected Operating System Files" is enabled.
The junction points that I am referring to are things like ("My Documents", "My Music", "Application Data", "Local Settings", etc). Is there a tool out there that can accomplish this for me? Or is there somethign I can do by hand to recreate these junction points? I have searched and searched the web for hours, but cannot seem to find anyone who has asked this question before.

I restarted my computer yesterday and when it came back on only guest account was available. My user account and my sons account were gone. I tried starting in safe mode and got "windows could not connect to the sens service. contact admin". I tried restoring my system to two different points 10/17 and 10/19 and neither worked. So now I am on my computer as a guest. I go to C: users and can see my username and my sons but can't open them b/c I am not an admin.

to make NTFS permissions easier to manage, I synchronize SIDs between systems on my primary multiboot system (one machine, one SID regardless of what software is running on it); i also synchronize one specific user SID (i'm not a different person just because i reboot my machine).
could save me an hour or two with my first Vista install and apprise me of the user SID (the last segment) that Vista assigns to the first user created? i'm hoping that it is either -0003 or -0004 so i don't have to reassign user IDs on the other boots

I have been having this problem for a while now. Under any file I download or any shortcut I make under security is a User with no name. This is what it says: Account Unknown (S-1-5-21-3555475015-4039561939-2811441107-1002). This has been concerning me because I’ve noticed that any file with this in security can’t be removed by anything but the Recycle Bin, which I find interesting, I usually use a file shredder for any file I want to delete, but I can’t. So my question is how do I delete this user name… with no name?

The shared printer is connected to LPT of a Vista computer. We used to have an XP computer that could print to this printer. We changed the XP comp for a Vista notebook. This notebook has the same user/password as the Vista machine where the printer is connected to. Hence, this user can print from the notebook.
Now the strange part: another user on this notebook can't. It is sent to the printer spooler, sits there for a few minutes ('printing...') and then there's an error message (just 'cannot print' or something like that). We set this account to administrator type, during install we put in and stored the account name and password of the account that can print (so the one that is the same on both computers) but to no avail. Sent my computer off to diagnose a program on the weekend. I was told some start up programs were taken off. Now when i turn on the computer it does the usual windows logo animation and instead of going to the log on screen it loads up the account straight away. I am the only user but still want the machine locked so i have to enter a password to log on. Just wondering if it needs to be added to the start up list or something to get it to start as normal again??

All of the folders on my
user account are gone and Vista reverted everything like my account was
just created. I lost all of my files and everything else I have had. Its
all been deleted!
It started this morning when I logged in and everything off of my
desktop was gone. All of the files and everything. I don't know what
happened, I didn't delete the account or make a new one or anything.
All I know is that my brother, he was stupidly going through my
files from his user account (through Computer/Users), since he was made an admin, and he was deleting some files off of my user account. I'm not sure what it was but it must have been something he deleted that messed up everything! I still see some of the items in my garbage can of stuff that might have been deleted by the moron. The
other user accounts are fine, its just mine that is missing everything
and acting like its a brand new account.
I don't know what he deleted but I know he didn't do a complete wipeout of my account.I
still have a feeling that my files are somewhere because the hard drive
is still the same size.

I have accidently deleted my user account off my laptop (vista home premium 32bit) but my files are still there in the user section of my hard drive. Can i recover it? If so how? I have only recently deleted it and I have another account with administrator privledges on it.

I recently partitioned my 500 GB hard disk on my Vista computer into multiple drives in order to keep data files and picture files separate. In doing that I succeeded in
screwing up the folder line-up in my user folder. In spite of many tries I haven't been able to "unscrew" it. There are two main problems:
1. There are now two folders called Pictures (E referring to ther new partition
Both of these folders contain the same subfolders and files. No matter what I try, I cannot delete one of these listings.
2. There is an additional folder called Pictures.
However this folder contains all the music folders and files. When I try to rename this folder to Music, I get the error message:"This action can't be completed because the
folder is open in another program", even though no other programs are running.

I want to be able to automatically log onto my user account after sleep or shutdown. I unchecked 'require password etc.' under 'control userpasswords2'. But it keeps logging on to an administrator account.Is there a way to make the computer open at the desktop of my standard account? I would like the administrator account to be password protected.

I am using the techinque to get the TokenElevationType using the API GetTokenInformation on Vista to determine if a user is an admin. It seems to work fine on Vista Business/Ultimate etc. However, it fails on Vista Home. Does anyone have any clues? The code is along the following lines:

Two weeks ago, email from my cousin in Ireland stopped being received (I am in the USA) for no apparent reason. She has checked/verified my address that she is sending to and it is correct. I have checked/verified that there are no blocks or filters turned on that should prevent her email from coming thru. I have even checked to make sure that her domain "ie" for Ireland is not blocked from my email. I had previously been receiving her email with no problems and had made no changes to my email program or computer.
I have gone to her email address, right clicked and scrolled to "junk mail", then clicked on "add user to safe sender's list" and also "add user's domain to safe sender's list". On the specific day I do that, her emails will come thru. Then the next day, they no longer come thru and continue to disappear. She receives no error messages, nor do I. I never receive the emails. We have verified this by calling each other on the phone so I know she is sending multiple emails daily that I do not receive. I have contacted Comcast, but no solution to date. Have been using McAfee firewall and Norton anti-virus. All of my other email seems to be coming thru fine, it is just the email from my cousin in Ireland that I have not been receiving.

(I know how to remote desktop to my Windows Server 2008 computer running
terminal services. I don't know about the single user mode).
Apparently, I'm not in single user mode, because the remote desktop shows
the Vista theme, but not the full Aero experience.

I’ve had problems with my Windows Vista Ultimate computer when attempting to turn on the Guest account. It’s gotten to the point where I cannot create any standard user account. Which leads me to the question: How do you manually create a new user in Vista? (Since it has been failing to create a new user through User Accounts).

My pc recently died whilst running a backup, so now i have no backup. Anyway, upon restarting after this issue, I can't log into my user account fully. I can get to a plain black desktop and I get this message in a bubble "Your user profile was not loaded correctly. You have been logged on with the default profile for the system. Is there a way to get rid of the screen that comes up when I type Win/L? That's the one with the current user avatar and a Switch User button, it seems to serve no useful purpose, wasn't there on XP. Is there some way of making the User Account avatars more like those on XP? I have week eyesight and I can't discern which avatar has focus when I use arrow keys, so I have to use the mouse. On XP it was much more obvious which UA had focus. Is there some way to show the mail and process counts?

i installed vista a few weeks ago...being the economical person i am, i decided to go thru all my extraneous directories that windows installs and delete a few things i know i'd never use...mostly public junk, etc etc...i also understand that vista is smart, actually modifying what it shows you depending on the things you use most, bla bla bla.. i'm the only one using my puter and i've set the account up with admin priviledges..
just recently, i've noticed that my name is no longer displayed in the start menu just above the "documents" button & underneath my display picture, and i'm concerned about it...i'm thinking maybe it had something to do with those directories i've deleted in the public area...OR maybe vista just realised that by now i'm the only one who ever touches my puter and has chosen to assume it's always me and not show my name anymore.. i don't know but i'd like to know why this is happening, and if i choose to, how i can restore it? i've tried in the policy manager but none of those settings seem to make a difference...
