When I open a folder and select Details I always get 'Tags', 'Album', 'Rating', '' etc. I right click the toolbar and remove all of these because all I want is the file name and the size. I then open the same folder again and they're all there again. How I can I permanently set this to just the name and size?
View 7 RepliesWhile browsing files and folders I've noticed something extreemly annoying. You can see the size of individual files in the Size column but you cant see the folder's contents size. This extreemly frustrating and I cant seem to find where I can enable that function. I know you can scroll your mouse over folders one at a time and a window will apear and you can see the size then, but thats just inconveniant for what Im doing. I need to be able to glance at multiple folder sizes constantly.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have tried everything to display file size in the Windows Explorer folders. I am using Vista version 6 SP1.
My folder is set to view 'all items'. It shows me name, date modified and type. When I right click to display column options, I can't locate size. There are a bunch of other column options, but size is not among them.
It has about 25 GB! I know that the HDD drives are cheap, but come on, it's huge!! Is there any tool available for reducing the size of it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on a folder, then look down in the Details Pane at the bottom it shows the number of files in the folder but NOT the accumulative file size total.
I also noticed the same thing when I had the Recycle Bin Folder open.
I have about a dozen tags (some nested) that I have been trying to delete. I have tried numerous work-arounds including renaming them then deleting. They seem to delete but when I close the photo gallery then open it again, they haven't been deleted (renamed, or even de-nested depending on what I try) Any that I have added lately DO delete, which is real confusing. I have been trying for about a month now, and want to restart from scratch. I own the computer w/admin rights (home premium 32bit)

I run Vista Home Premium. Anyway, it just lost most of my tags, AGAIN! This time is the worst because I've put many hours into it. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of loose mp3s (i.e. not the entire albums, just a few tracks from particular albums) grouped into folders based on genre. They have blank album tags. How can I prevent WMP11 from assigning album tags to these mp3 and downloading album art. I have every possible check box involved in media updating unchecked. Among my 20 or so genre folders, WMP only seems to modify the files in a few of the folders. The artist and title tags are correct so it looks like WMP is trying to add missing information. Is there a registry hack that essentially turns off the ability of WMP to do any file modification? I've tried deleting the database and rescanning the library. My only option right now is to simply not start WMP.

position in the screen, nor will they keep the way they are suppose to be
viewed, they were keeping it since I installed Vista.
I can no longer use the restore system, since it has been too long since the
problem started, I thought that a simple rebooting as it used to work,
would this time around, but it did not. I even runed a CHKDSK /R on all of
my HDD
How could I fix that
BTW I did not installed any hardware or software around the time that the
problem began, and I rebooted when I installed the lastest Windows Update,
since it required it
I edited the registry and either modified or deleted a line
regarding font size.
Since then all my html messages use size 12 in Windows Mail, Live Mail, or
Yahoo Mail.
I can specify the use of a different size, but as soon as I type anything,
the size reverts to 12.
I can change any other attribute such as face, bold, etc. and they all
work.
I would like to reinstall Windows Mail but I understand that's not possible
as it's inseparable from Vista.
I've run sfc /scannow and there are no problems.
The only solution that seems possible it to fix or replace that registry
line I screwed up.
Incoming email is difficult to read because of age and font size. Have checked out ideas on Goggle and Windows "Help and Support". Either I'm too thick or the suggestions are no longer applicable. I'm using Vista, IE 8 and Windows mail.
View 9 Replies View Relatedis there's an equivalent to XP's Display Font Size in Vista? In XP Display Properties, Appearance tab we can change Font size to Large or Extra Large. This is useful for people who want high resolution desktops but find it hard to read small text (without sitting really close which is bad for eyes). I know there's a DPI setting in Vista just as there is in XP, but it's not the same as Font size.

After a while, for no apparent reason, the "large" desktop icons setting produces some smaller ones also. Specifically it seems to be web short cuts. Some are large but some are much smaller, ie 2 icons which are identical (both web shortcuts) are randomly different sizes.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

For some reason,my Program Files directory has been changed to the Photos directory type, so it changed from the details like file type, size, etc., to rating, photo size, etc.I cannot figure out how to change the directory back to a General file folder type. The toolbar shows things like Slide Show, etc.The sub-directories are all fine and appear as a General type. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have C & D drives, I use D for mundane filesdownloads and portable apps. However, I have a few folders that's are different from any I've seen. I don't know how to explain it other than using a detailed example.
I have D:Folder1
I can rename Folder1 to whatever I want.
E.g it will appear as D:NewFolder
However the dir location of it still points to D:Folder1
I have also scanned the registry for D:Folder1 and D:NewFolder there are no references of it. I've reformatted the C: drive multiple times and reinstalled windows. So I know it's nothing to this specific windows installation (the folders have been like this for about a year) It's not really a problem, I love it because I can rename the folder without messing up links etc. At first I thought it might be a junction, however in cmd it still shows as <Dir> not <Junction> I also checked for hidden folders on the drive. I found nothing.
When I put e.g. documents in my publick folder, do they appear automatically in the private folder too? Do I really need 2 folders to see all my docs in vista?

The possible causes are not the problem. I have 2 gig memory and it was working fine when I only had 1 gig of memory. Disk space, I have over 90 gig of free space.

I found the answer once before in one of the forums, but can't remember where it was. And why does this happen? Also, when I go to 'Help & support" in the Start button, it defaults to Lenovo (my hardware mfg) instead of Microsoft Windows.
