I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on a 15 inch Toshiba laptop my first computer ever. I changed the DPI screen resolution to the largest print since it was orginally too small to see and now cannot access the bottom of that screen to make any changes to reset it back small again. This enlargement of the screen also occurs on many of the control panel screens and all websites I visit. Spent hours trying everything possible all kinds of ways to fix this and very frustrated. Tried to enter through Classic Control Panel and Ease of Use suggestion to change it but no luck. Will read up on that safe mode idea. My 20 something computer neighbor was also baffled and tried to reboot but was unable to do this either hoping to reset it all back to the factory settings.

I have a need to send a large attachment to a colleague. What is the largest attachment size that Windows Mail can handle? Is it possible to send it in smaller parts which are combined at the other end?
I scanned a newspaper article and attached it to an e-mail. The text was so large only half the article could be read. How do I shrink text size on a sent e-mail attachment?
I know every one here has this default Vista (even XP) problem. The problem is that the folder customization / layout never stays the way you set it, even minutes later after closing/re-opening explorer. This is driving me insane. For example, in explorer under Computer I choose large icons. Close, re-open its back to list view instead. Sometimes other folders will somehow change views by themselves too. This is really annoying.
I getting a notification on the bottom bar right hand side saying backup failure. When i click on this, "Backup status & configuration" window appears, which says
The Backup did not complete succesfully
CATASTROPHIC FAILURE (0x8000FFFF).
So then if i try and do a a back up from control panel. a green bar appears and then go's red completely.
Finaly i get the same message on the bottom right hand side.
There have been many posts about backup problems in Vista. I too was having problems. I kept researching for answers and maybe the following will help someone else with their problem. I counld not get the backup to work properly. I kept getting BACKUP FAILED messages.
I even reformatted the Hard Drive and then still ran into the problem. I read all the treads, and saw numerous refernces to REGISTRY CLEANERS. I like my 3B REGISTRY REPAIR PRO but trying to correct the backup problem, I restalled the original registry. and then tried to Back Up. Result. NO MORE BACKUP FAILURE. I am 99% sure, that when a Registry Cleaner is used, It will interfere with the Backup Program, thus generating the problems.
I am trying to back up to a WD Passport 250gb usb drive. Every time it fails stating file 0x80070002 cant be found. I returned the drive to the store and replaced it, but I still get the same failure. Could I have gotten 2 bad drives or is there something I can do/chnge in Vista to correct this?
I have a Vista Ultimate laptop with drive C: 76GB NTFS basic for programs, drive D: 15GB NTFS basic for my data and 14GB not allocated. C: is full and I would like to expand the size. Does anyone know if it is possible to change the size of the icons when using tile view in explorer? I know I can make the icons bigger by switching to large or extra large icons view but I like the extra information I get from the tiles view, such as drive space.
Is there anyway to permanently change the font size to a larger print in Windows Vista. I have tried suggestions from IE going to options and then "general", but there is no place to change the size of the font.... One of the reasons I don't use the new e-mail set up is because the print is too small and everything is bunched together. They weren't thinking of senior citizens when they designed that!
Last week I purchased my 1st laptop and thus entered the world of Vista after running Win XP home since it 1st came out. I'm a senior at 62, and my eyesight isn't the best anymore. I tried 1024x600 for larger font size but didn't like how graphics and Icons looked, so I went back to the default of 1288x600. My problem is the the font size including emails is just too small, so I'm forced to continually use Control + to increase it. Is there a way to change the font size so I don't have to do this. I'm running Firefox 3.07 and the latest version of Thunderbird. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934
I finally found a fix for the above problem and you two surely deserve to know what it is. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Internet Explorer > Settings > I modified Always Use My Font Size from (1) to (0). Initially, I was doing my searching using the entire computer and it literally took hours. Since I knew that searching KEY_CURRENT_USERS was a waste of time (you had already suggested deleting Windows Mail), I only searched for key words using LOCAL MACHINE. This allowed me to shorten search times to a reasonalbe amount.
Is there a way to change the color of the signature in Windows Mail (Vista)? Also, how do I change the font size of the signature? My regular font size for mail is 10pt, but the signature comes out at 12pt.
There are websites that i visit that dont work right and i dont know if it is Vista or just my computer. I just got this computer, it is brand new. My old computer had XP. There is a site called BabyCenter.com. When i comment in the forums, it wont let me change my font size, color or anything. I could do all of that on XP. And when i go to game websites like playtopia.com, the game will load, but it wont show up. Is this Vista doing this, and if so how can i fix it??
I have Windows Mail thru Vista and have tried to change my font size and color on outgoing e-mails to somthing different than the default but everytime I go in to compose an e-mail it keeps going to the default font size and color. I went to TOOLS - OPTIONS - SEND and COMPOSE and have changed them there but that doesn't seem to work.
Whenever I change my print page size in the control panels it never works. I go in, save it, go back to my document and it's not there. I've had Geek Squad out here to make sure I have the correct printer driver for Vista installed but it's still giving me the same problem.
why one of my harddrive ICONS decided to change itself right out of the clear-blue? How do I change it back? I recall using an onboard facility in the past to set it as I had it but danged if I can find the bugger now
I recently created a second administrative account. For sercurity reasons i hid it from the login screen. When i was making it I accidently changed my first administrative account to standard and didnt change it back before i logged off. Now I cant login in to an administrative account or change the dword value back to 1 so i can login because i dont have adminstrative permission. When i try to do this or change the account back to adminstrator it says "To continue type an administrators password and press ok. BUT their is nowhere to type and the ok is shaded so i cant press it! WHAT do i do! Is their another way i can login?
when I first started with Vista, Photo Gallery would show only the photo i clicked on. Now when i click on any photo it shows all the photos i created since I was born. how to change the view back to only showing one photo?
Under the path > WM > View > Text Size, I can select four (4) different sizes from its default setting "Medium". Now, that works "just fine"...but ONLY while a session of WM remains active! Indeed, as soon as WM is being shut down and relaunched, this previously altered setting (eg. to "Larger") will have reverted back to its initial default (ie. in my case it's "Medium")! So can someone kindly advise me now how I could alter this specific setting to...permanent?
i was on Internet earlier today when i noticed that the videos were already completed buferring, but the videos were lagging; and firefox was performing kind of slow. i decided to re-start my computer. after re-starting the computer the logon process took extremely long, then an error message appeared: logon process has failed to create the security options dialog. failure - security options. i waited for the desktop to appear, then re-started again. but the perofrmance of the logon is still extremely slow. any suggestions?
New to Windows mail. I type and view screen using Ariel size 10 but when I print out mail I get size 12. I can't find a way to change it and it's annoying.
While browsing files and folders I've noticed something extreemly annoying. You can see the size of individual files in the Size column but you cant see the folder's contents size. This extreemly frustrating and I cant seem to find where I can enable that function. I know you can scroll your mouse over folders one at a time and a window will apear and you can see the size then, but thats just inconveniant for what Im doing. I need to be able to glance at multiple folder sizes constantly.
All of a sudden the display on my computer got HUGE. i read the other discussions and used the screen resoulution to adjust it. It is small now but it apperars blurry or something.
