View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen i try to burn my set of Recovery Disc from my 7 months old HP 530 laptop operating on Windows Vista 32bits. The process of the burning crashed along the line but not knowing to me because i thought the set of the Backup and Recovery CD is just only one DVD CD since the process stop on one DVD CD but later got it that it should be two DVD CDs. Foolish me, I was rest assured that I have the Backup and Recovery CD with me until that very ill-fitted day that I tried to recover my laptop. Along the process, when it got to where there is REINSTALLING THE ORIGINAL CONTENTS in the Recovery Manager screen, my computer just show ”ERROR 0008, IF PROBLEM CONTINUES, CONTACT THE HP CUSTOMER SERVICE”.
The next option it gave me is to click OK or CANCEL. Of which if I did , It reboots and stop at the first black screen that usually show: PRESS F11 FOR EMERGENCY RECOVERY. Of which if I did not press the F11 button, It shows: ”BOOTMG FILE MISSING”, ”PRESS CRTL+ALT+DEL TO REBOOT” and it will be going through this loop throughout. burnt Backup and Recovery DVD CD from my D: partition, it just copy only few of the recovery boot data. I have tried the recovery CD I downloaded from this site but to avail. It only says after the startup repairing ''THIS SYSTEM CANNOT BE REPAIR AUTOMATICALLY''.
I wondered if there is more - or + value to doing a restore prior to my sp1 download, I would like to make a recovery disc using brinks great tutorial. I only have my retail purchase computer created one time recovery discs.

Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. I have already talked and emailed HP about 20 times. I had a problem with total care advisor so HP told me to uninstall it and then reinstall it so I did and the website they gave me to download it was really to update it and would not install. Now they say I have to do a system recovery. Is there anyway to download the HP Total Care Advisor without doing a system recovery? I was told by HP that I need this to do hp updates and it is important for my computer.

I am running Windows VISTA Ultimate x64, do not have the original disk with me as i brought this computer to work on to my vacation spot to do some work. After running a botched program, I got a msg saying the computer would restart automaticly. Having extensive windows knowledge I know this is never a good situation to be in. I am using a windows x64 boot disk that i found from neosmart as I do not have access to the original disk.

I have the following issue and hope that somebody can give me a hint about what might be going on! My system has two raid 1 arrays - one is running on XP Professional SP3 the other one is running on Vista x64 Ultimate SP1. When I start my virtual machines (either from the Virtual PC console or when double-clicking the *.vmc files) than everything is working fine on XP and the virtual machines are booting and running as expected. However, on Vista the following is happening (and I hope somebody has an idea):
1. Starting the Virtual machines from the console leads to an immediate reboot of my host machine (I can't even see any boot screen of the virtual machine - it is like clicking start in the VPC console -- > reboot of host).

However, I have access to a Linux host (L) which can access 'V'. Now I have an RDP server running on 'V' which accepts any RDP connection without a prompt. But an X server is not running on 'L' so that I cannot open an 'rdesktop' window. Is there a way to access 'V' from 'L' purely through the command line using the RDP server running
on 'V'?

Prioir to SP1 I could connect to the console of the remote machine using Remote Desktop. Now when I connect I get a fresh desktop and not the console. Has anyone else run into this or found a fix?
View 4 Replies View RelatedPrior to formatting my computer my soundcard and its software worked perfectly however after i formatted, my creative audio console doesnt really work properly. For example. Before if i adjusted the master volume in the audio console, it would synronise and adjust the volume in the default windows sound mixer now it doesnt. Secondly before if i plugged in headphones the sound would autmatically go through the headphones and mute the speakers. Now if i open the console and go to the headphones section, I have mute speakers checked and automatically enable headphone settings checked and if i plug in my headphones, sound still comes out of speakers but if i press test in the audio console, the test lady voice comes through the headphones whilst other sounds still continues through the speakers. I have reinstalled the drivers twice now and updated the drivers.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Windows 7 RC1 with the intent of adding a partition to my HDD and dual booting. My understanding is that I would need a 16GB partition. My Disk Management Console tells me I have two existing primary partitions (expected). D (the recovery partition) is 6.62GB. The other (C) makes up the difference (~142GB) and has 47.1GB free space. When I begin the "shrink volume" process, it says that only 3MB is available to shrink C. I checked the page file and it has less than 3GB allocated to it. So, I have two questions. First, why isn't more shrinkage ;>) space available? Two, assuming that with your help I can find more space, if I try to create a 16GB partition from C will I significantly affect computer performance?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been getting this error message when I try to open certain control panel functions from the RUN command line or through the MMC console itself. Other functions like performance information, user accounts and parental controls don't respond when clicked. Windows update might flash up the beginnings of a window for a split second but wont load. I've got the update icon on my task bar saying it cant update. Other than some key function being inaccessible the PC runs fine (apart form Firefox has started crashing out every now again) I can install software ok.
I've run the SVG /scannow thing and it found no problem Its my home PC sp I am setup as administrator. This problem is effecting another vanilla admin account AND the hidden Admin account. I've virus scanned in safe mode. System restore went through the motions but after it had restarted the PC it said it couldn't actually restore........
I have Vista Ultimate 64, sometimes when I am downloading a large file download does not finish and I get an error box that the download had timed out. How can I stop this, the sites where is happens do no support resuming and I only have a slow connection.

I know this would be done through boot.ini however i have no idea how to do so. Also id make a seperate partition on my hd of ten gigs just for the backup image.

Okay so I wanted to make a DVD, I opened Windows DVD Maker, added the movies etc. But when i click Burn, a message pops up that says "The Disc in your DVD burner is not a recordable DVD. Please insert a recordable or rewriteable DVD." I attached a pic of the message, its stupid.bmp.
I am using Memorex DVD-R 4.7GB, so i know that the DVD can be used.
I tried burning with the Roxio programme that came installed already when i got my Laptop. It completed burning, but when I ejected the DVD, only a tiny strip was written. When I put the DVD in my dvd player it says Bad Disc and on the comp, it has a DVD picture with DVD-R underneath it, and it says DVD RW Drive (E: ) name of dvd. It tells me that i have 4.38GB of free space. i attached a pic of this because i dont think i explained it well, its disc.bmp

Under Device Manager, when I expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, PBDS DVD+-RW DS-8W1P ATA Device shows. I dunno if thats important either.
this is my first time burning a dvd so i dunno if it once worked.
i can read dvd's however, i can't burn dvd's, i've search for solutions but i've found none, hopefully i'll get one here. I throught the problem would be solved with a system restore, starting from scratch, i have tried roxio, nero and windows vista itself to burn my dvd none with success.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having the same problem as Scubiekim - except I DO use Windows Vista. When I put a CD-R in the drive, and try to burn pics onto it, it tells me I can't. Then every 5 minutes since I've tried, I get a balloon on the bottom of my screen saying "You have files waiting to be burned to disc. To view files, click this balloon". I then click the balloon, and nothing happens. I know it's not a problem with the CD, since I have other pictures on it, and it's not full. The pics I'm trying to work with are JPEG files, the same as the pics that are already on the disc.
