Creating Accounts With Windows Mail?
Jun 16, 2009
How do you create an account with your windows mail? I'm not talking about hotmail or anything like that, I'm talking about the program that comes with your computer, and registering your hotmail account onto that program. I got as far as entering your 'incoming mail server type' and 'outgoing mail server type.

When creating new user accounts, does each account need to have its own security software?, ie. anti-virus, anti-this and that? or does the security from the Admin account take care of all other accounts as well?.

I can create a contact group by clicking on the "New Contact Group" on the toolbar. Problem is there is no "New Contact Group" item on my Vista Mail toolbar when using the Windows explorer. Despite looking through all the discussion group replies, and going to the suggested tutorial, I STILL can not get the 'New Contact Group' button to appear.

After spending many hours, I have at last got Windows Mail working perfectly. I uninstalled my McAfee (that wasn't straightforward), deleted my accounts from Windows Mail - then re-instated them, and installed AVG.

I am thinking yes with todays technology and older email clients doing this, but, when I set up one e-mail, mail comes in to a "Local Folders" "Inbox", so I wonder how I will separate my various accounts. Can I set up each to download into their own set of e-mail account folders rather than everything going to "Local Folders" "Inbox"? If I can set up more than one account, will Windows Mail automatically log into and download all of the email accounts when I open Windows Mail? This is quite difficult to set up when Windows Vista doesn't include help files. Even after I downloaded them, the help files for Windows Mail won't open.

I have created 4 email accounts and emails from all accounts are being deposited into the same inbox. Outlook express allowed me to manage these through identities so that each email account had it's own inbox, drafts, sent, etc. Is this possible with Windows Mail?

Okay, here it goes. I first started using Windows Mail when I bought a new computer with Windows Vista back in January '09. I have four email accounts which I transferred over from an Outlook Express backup that I did before getting rid of my old computer. Windows Mail automatically set up a set of folders (Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts and Junk E-mail) for each account, each with a different color scheme, similar to Windows Live Mail. My hard drive crashed in June and I'm just now setting things up again with the new hard drive installed. I tried restoring my email accounts from a backup I had but now Windows Mail won't automatically create folders for each account. Instead, I had to set up separate Inbox folders with message rules for each account. However, all the accounts are still sharing the Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts and Junk E-mail folders. Is there a way to set up a set of these folders for each account using message rules? And also, why did Windows Mail do that automatically for me the first time using it - could it be that the information came from an Outlook Express backup originally?

When using Windows XP, typing in the first 2-3 letters of an address enabled the whole address to appear in th "TO" line of a new e-mail. With Vista, I am having to type in the full address each time unless working from the contact list. Addresses are not kept in the memory more than a few hours. This means that each time I wish to forward an attachment, the whole e-mail address has to be typed in letter for letter.

I have 17 accounts in Windows Mail. When I first start up WM, and go to retrieve mail,. all accounts work fine. But then any subsequent attempt to retrieve mail, and the process ignores the first two accounts. No errors, no message. It's just listed along with the others, but blank in the status column. And no errors reported either. So then if I exit WM and start over, it works fine again... for that first time. And then it's back to the same problem.

I am set up his e-mail with Windows Mail but I don't know what the Pop3 or SMTP for those e-mail accounts are. He uses one email from att.net and another e-mail for live.com... does anybody knows this off the top of their head? I hate to call AT&T on this as it will be like a good half an hour for them to get to the phone and M$ would be another year.

if it's possible to uninstall windows live mail. It is not listed as a seperate program in the uninstall page. There are 4 people in my house who use this pc and hotmail and msn sends me directly to live mail, where the accounts are all mixed up together so that any new messages for me are sandwiched between others, even though it says I am logged in. My own fault for accepting updates to msn.

I am having a great deal of trouble creating 16:9 DVDs with Windows DVD Maker. I have it set to make 16:9, the movie itself IS 16:9 but the program insists on squishing it into 4:3. I've wasted two discs already and cannot find anywhere else within the program where I can deal with aspect ratio.

I have a ThinkCentre PC with Windows XP Home installed on on it. I've got another machine that is currently running Vista. If I make a install cd from the XP machine, can I install it on my other Compaq machine that is running vista (it came with XP Media Center Edition 2005 but it had all this crap preloaded onto it). Or, can I reformat the XP Media Center Edition PC, and then make an install dvd out of that (i.e. will it remove the crap that Compaq put on it?).

I'm trying to use the account function where you supposedly can set up your home account and then your work account in Windows Mail. Having done away with identities, you have to use tools->accounts to set them up. I have two accounts set up, one is me, the other is support, but I can't seem to find out how to switch between them. When I set them to be the default account, each in its turn it merged all the messages in my inbox view.

I, use the email for listing my auctions on several sites. We, use to have Outlook Express on the older computer. With this new computer we are using Windows Mail which I can see now is one of the most useless mail systems. When I, go to the page that I want to link to, and copy the address at the top and have it in my que, I then go to the email and click on the hyperlink button and paste the address in with the Type of File set for http:, and do a OK.
Now when I save the message, and then go back to it the link works, but if I go somewhere else in Windows Mail and come back to the message, sometimes the link works and sometimes it doesn't. Then when you open the hyperlink button again the address has either disappeared or it has change Type of File to "(other)" What made it change the Type of File to "(Other)"??
So, I grab the address again, and change the Type of File back to http: and paste the address into the box, Hit OK. Then on the email I can copy what I want so I can transfer the information plus the hyperlink to other messages that need the same information in them. But then when I go back and check those hyperlinks they have been changed from http: to (other) so now the hyperlink will return a non-valid-address. What is making this happen??
