View 9 Replies View RelatedUsing vista 64 and I have a folder that contains another folder with a small file inside. Vista will NOT allow me to delete the folder from the desktop. I have tried everything that I know to do:
1. I tried to delete from the command prompt.
2. I tried renaming to folder.
3. Downloaded a "unlocker" program as suggested in other posts, doesn't work on 64 bit.
ive tried deleting it but vista doesnt say anything and the folder just stays there. ive tried restarting my computer and it still doesnt work. I can't rename it or anything. when i made the folder i did alt+2+5+5 on the numpad.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI set up a wireless network that looked like this: Internet --> Wireles Router --> XP Desktop --> Printer| Vista Laptop This was all working fine until I started tweaking vista on my laptop and downloading vista updates. Then suddenly, my vista laptop can't detect the desktop, although my desktop can detect the laptop (although it can't access it). I've installed all updates for vista between installing the network and this problem. I've changed services in services.msc. Although I've changed it all back to what it was before. I removed some 'Windows Functions' from 'Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features.

so in the past on my older computers (ones that ran XP) i would make a new folder on my desktop and name it "alt+0160" and it would just have no name then, then i would change the icon to nothing and i would have an invisible icon and i would throw all my program icons into that folder and get rid of recycle bin icon so there was nothing on the desktop. well i just bought a laptop and it has vista on it and i did the same thing but i just deleted all the icons and hid the recycle bin icon in the properties somewhere i dont remember where but im sure you know what im talking about.
I didn't really want to start a new thread, but I'm too busy to look through to find a matching problem. I can't get an Icon to delete off of my desktop. The account is a standard account, so when I try to delete the icon, it asks for permission. So I type in the password and it says it deletes it, but it's still there. So I try to delete it from the Administrator account(which is the built in account), but it says I don't have permission to delete it. It's not a big problem, but it's just somewhat annoying.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an icon on my desktop which refuses to get deleted. I have gone looked at various other posts and have tried to follow the steps..unfortunately none of them have helped me get rid of the sticky icon. the file name is RATATO~1.rm and i dont know how it was created.
* deleting in safe mode doesnt help.
* tried shedding the file wid mcafee...doesnt work.
* deleting from cmd prompt doesnt delete.
* have tried to remove the registry entry, there are various entries and am not able to figure out the exact entry.
When i try to delete, the delete program goes into an infinite loop. says " recycling 1 item..calculating time remaining" and gets stuck.

sent laptop to service center for warrenty repair to cover. repair center updated the bios (bios launcher downloaded to desktop). when i got machine home i noticed an adminstrative tools icon now on my desktop. i am unable to do anything with this icon. when right clicked i get no option to delete or to open properities. i have tried dragging and dropping,moving, and deleting. i cannot move it off the desktop. control pannel still has the administrative icon in it and it works. the icon on the desktop works also. hovvever desktop is no place for admin. tools. i have also tried to delete

- When I try to delete it is doesn't display an error message, it just doesn't delete.
- The file is from AIM and is labeled "Storage" (I have since uninstalled AIM)
- I can not restore it or use restore all or delete all.
- The file prevents me from emptying my recycle bin. I have to manually click and delete everything.
Its becoming bothersome because I can't use empty my recycle bin all at once. I've tried deleting it in safe mode and using disk cleanup but it just wont go away.
My C drive is 40 GB (Vista SP2) and c:windowswinsxs folder is 8 GB. How can I decrease it, delete it safetly...?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop with Vista Home Premium SP2. I have a folder that contains corrupted files. I am not able to delete the files or the folder. I ran chkdsk, and this would not complete because of the corrupt files. I then ran chkdsk /f, and this did not correct the problem. I tried Unlocker, and this was not able to delete the files. I did a scan for viruses and spyware, and my laptop is clean. My laptop works well with no other problems. My only concern is that neither System Restore or chkdsk work. Whenever I try to run System Restore, I get the message that it is unable to perform the task because of corrupted files. Is there anything else I can try short of doing a complete reinstall? I do not care to do a reinstall since I have no other issues with my computer.

View 8 Replies View RelatedDue to HDD failure. THEY rebuilt it under the name of RoB Davies, NOT even my name of RoD Davies, and in any event it should have been under my wife's name. So I am apparently the defualt user. I created an Admin user under wife's name of Lenore, added a Folder under her name in the Users Folder, but can I delete the ROB Davies User??? There are the folders under RoB Davies of Contacts, Music, Pictures, Downoads, Videos, Searches etc. Even though I copied all these folders to my Wifes User Folder, and despite there being nothiing in any of these folders as its a brand new built PC, RoB Davies User folders are over 1GB in size, and my wifes about 20KB in total, so there are hidden system files in my incorrectly 'built' user folder...right? But Can I delete the Rob Davies folder??

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently done a clean install of VISTA Ultimate on a new hard disk. This is an upgrade copy, so I used the "old" disk and ran it from there. Vista runs on the C drive now, but I can't free up space on the "old" D drive because I can't delete the Windows folder or any of the files or folders in it. I'm denied access. Tried the Administrator account trick. Tried everything. Disk clean up tool. This is my biggest complaint with running VISTA for the past year: I can't access my own computer because I'm told I don't have permission! I built them, I run a home network of 3 machines and I'm continually told I don't have permission to do what I want or need to do. UAC is off.
