I am trying to reset the bios password on an acer extensa 5220 but having no luck. I have removed the cmos battery and put it back after 30 minutes.. still getting the password thingy.. ALL I WANT IS TO BE ABLE TO BOOT FROM CD SO THAT I CAN REDO THE WINDOWS.. i have the hard drive all formated so cannot do much more.
View 6 RepliesJust built new pc, loaded vista 64 home basic, works well in sata ide mode. I have three 1.5tb seagate hdds & want to run them on raid 5. Bios set on ide mode all sata drives can be seen, reset to raid they disapear in bios? On start up (in raid mode) shows healthy raid 5 at 2.72tb, load vista from dvd, gets to load drivers & it will not find any. If I browse disc I can see the file, select it & it does not find it, says no drive found? No advanced option availabe.

im not sure what system im using but it have xp and vista system... (not duel boot). Im using limited user on vista/xp but some of my game does not work like gameguard. anyhow to recover administrator password?? the debug administrator is lock(has pw cant open) and my brother don let me play games. i did try other method but dint work.

Crossing jumpers?- Not sure how or where to find these so im not sure if id try without some detailed tutorial or pictures. And then theres software that will find it,personally id rather use the software but ive as of yet to come across any.

The problem is that I thought when I put a password on the BIOS that if the laptop was stolen the person would have to go thru alot of trouble to crack it. I just found out at Gateways site that all I have to do to clear the BISO password is 1) tun laptop off 2) set a the number one jumper to set three for a whole two seconds, retun the jumper back to set one and then tun the laptop back on BAM the BIOS pw is gone. CAN i do anything to the laptop to make it worthless if it is stolen? This is absurd in a whole two seconds my 1,300 laptop if stolen can be fully used as if it was never password protected.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSometimes when I install drivers I get the message that my BIOS is out of date (including updates from AMD) if I go to the Phoenix site it says go to the motherboard manufacturer or run Biosagent if you use this you pay for the update but you do get this info so is it worth e-mail gateway support, using the boisagent or just leave well alone.

I have forgotten the Username and Password for the Login ID... and it is not the default (Username: *blank* Password: admin). I have heard you can hold the reset button on the back of the wireless router but will this reset my wireless network? By that i mean... will i be able to connect with my laptop still through that wireless network or will i have to set it up again?

The problem is that when he starts it he gets to the screen where he can choose to enter BIOS. 9/10 times he can't do anything from there but 1/10 times he can press delete and then it says "loading bios" but it freezes there (he waited 30 mins nothing happened). View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been messing around in my BIOS. Installing some faster RAM and trying a slight overclock (2.4 t0 2.7Ghz on a Q6600) and seem to have caused myself several problems. Firstly I tried to push it a bit further on the FSB- from 1200 to 1300-the system wouldn't boot and wouldn't let me into the BIOS. I eventually got round this by removing the mobo battery. I was able to get back into the BIOS and revert to my original oc. However when I booted I got a re register Windows this is not a genuine version notice. I had to 'phone microsoft and get a new activation ID. I'm now back in windows (Vista HP 64 bit) but seem to have a few left over issues. My clock was set back to 2006 and that meant I couldn't activate Gmail etc. I went back into the BIOS and reset the date but could not change the day. So it's 3.19PM on Monday the 22nd of September, 2008. I've tried everything I can think of but cannot find a way to make it Friday, which it is.
Also I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. This keeps reporting that my computer is at risk and I need to update. I've updated over a dozen times but it doesn't seem to change and is still telling me it needs to update. These are ther first problems I have noticed. I hope I don't find more. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get my day and date correct and how to convince Kaspersky it's up to date?
Having purchased a used acer 5315 I have spent days trying to do a fresh install of vista. I have a premium vista disc and the basic serial number is on the acer.
Have been through the bios loads of times but each time I end up back at the same place with windows telling me it cannot find the hd and that I need to install drivers. Has anyone had success in doing a clean installation on an acer laptop.
I have a problem I want to get a hold of my recovery disc from acer and have vista again but the thing is I cant hold of the partion that acer has and I have tried to press alt f10 when it starts but it doesnt work, I have no OS on my computer right now does anyone know how I can get the partion to start?
View 6 Replies View RelatedGot myself the Acer 5920 with the intel dual core processors. Every site says its 64 bit but still they installed the 32 version. For example, 3D Studio Max has 2 versions; 32 and 64 bit. The installer recognizes the 32 bit vista so it WONT install the 64 bit, but it does install the 32 bit version. Loading up the 32 bit version: it doesnt, error. Wrong processor.
So now I want to install the 64 bit vista. I got a dvd with it but whenever I run setup.exe or the autorun, it gives an error saying wrong os or summit (can look the exact error up when I'm home again) The question I already thin I know the awnser on: My pc can run vista 64 bit, right? Anyone else has issue's with 32/64 bit versions of software not running?
Or a solution how to install that 64 bit version? Booting didnt work, it doesnt see it as a bootable disc (I pressed F12, and when the pc boots it first checks the cd for a bootable disc) Im getting a new vista 64 dvd btw since the version I got was from a friend if ye kno wha I mean :P (wanted to test it before buying it, honnestly).....
I have contacted Acer and the computer is out of warranty so they would not help with any tech advice so I am running out of options. When it boots up, the Acer splash comes up preceeded by a brief flash like a safe mode setup, can not see what it says it happens very quickly, then the windows logo comes up then the desktop.Do you have to change bios settings , if so how?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI got my Acer Extenza 4620Z Laptop in December and it has Vista installed, and until today, the internet has always worked fine. Earlier today I was turning my computer on and when everything loaded up I connected to my home wireless network (Belkin router) but the computer couldn't connect to any programs that use the internet (AIM, Firefox, IE). My desktop is older and has XP, which is working like normal, all things internet work normally so I know its not the router or the ISP. When I contacted Acer about the situation, the IT told me to perform a system restore to a few days ago (3/9/08), which I did. That worked for a few hours and then it happened again, "Server Not Found" and nothing that uses internet would work. The I tried to System Restore it again to earlier (2/28/08) and it worked again, but also for only a few hours. Now my laptop just automatically installed all the Windows updates from 3/9-3/12 and the internet doesnt work again. How can I fix this problem? I am convinced that it has something to do with the Windows Updates because it only happens when one of the newer updates is installed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI know that Acer displays the Realtek HD Audio Manager as ACER's. I have no problems with the name being different. The problem is, after 4 successive times of uninstalling the driver and installing the new one, the HD Audio Manager does not update. Its stuck at one version. Do i update the HD Audio Manager? My dumb guess is that Acer is not updating the HD Audio Manager as it'll be changed to Realtek.. I have tried downloading and installing the Driver from Acer's website but its still the same......

It has all available updates but when I go to the Windows Update site it does not show Vista SP1 , just says there are no new updates available.
I am about to go buy XP Pro and get rid of this dreadful OS, I was only keeping Vista until I could see if SP1 made a difference in the way it runs, but if I can't even access SP1 then there's no point keeping it.
