Xp Either Freezes Or Spontanously Reboots

I'm running xp pro with a P4 cpu it sits on an Asus P4C-800 E Deluxe mobo.(I built the system myself). After you take it out of sleep mode (the first time) it almost always freezes. Once you reboot it never freezes again.So, I upgraded the power supply to an Asus Modstream 550 watt psu, and I upgraded the video card to a BFG Nvidia Geforce 6200, and I just upgraded the memory to 1.5 gigabyte (OCZ). I shutdown each program that started with windows and ran the puter to see if it froze ,and it did. I'm running out of ideas on what could be the problem.

I would get occasional freezes and random reboots, moreso than with my previously computer. It would usually take me three reboots to get the computer going well, but then it would be fine. I had done two clean installs of xp so I know the OS is fine. As mentioned, i had occasional xp shutdowns due to "device driver problems," but i could always get it going again. All drivers were up to date. Now i have it so that i can not even get into windows. After it gerts through bios, the windows loading logo comes up, then blue screen, and reboot. Everytime. Tried switching hard drive with another that has xp pro and same thing. Blue screen says usual suggest disabling anti-virus but can't even get into windows now.

A while ago my pc started randomly freezing when i booted up, usually have to reboot three or four times before it works properly, i guess i must have a virus or something but no scans i run pick up anything obvious. Also when i try to shutdown, the screen freezes on the "Windows is preparing to shut down" screen.

i recently made a changeto my boot.ini file as i was advised to do so by another person in another forum as it was corrupted already.now my omputer wont start,it loads up the white text then at the screen where it should load the windows bar thing,its just black and then it reboots,worse still i cnt press f8 or anything because that doesnt work on start up,nothing does,pressing delete to setup,no,doesnt work,nothing happens.also i tried to insert windows disk but that wont even boot,it doesnt even notice it in the drive.can anybody help me,there must be some way round it

I booted her up and all is good. after doing something it froze. so i rebooted. it came to the screen that asks 4 safe mode etc I clicked the BEST PREVIOUS Settings thing. then it starts scanning for the scan disk. after its done it loads for a few sec then the pc just reboots then and there. I tried all other safe mode and normal etc options too.i tried skipping scan disk but no help Whats wrong? i don't wanna reinstall XP.

An interesting problem. I have a box here that constantly reboots itself. Firstly I thought it may be a cmos problem, so I drained the cmos by removing the battery. Nope. Then I forced the bios to find hardware (I think it's eecd?). No problem finding hardware, but constant reboot. I thought it may be a hard drive problem so I changed the h/d. Nope, still constantly reboots. I took out the cdrom. Nope. I then low level formatted the h/d (the box worked just fine for this, using a cd with the format program, booting from the cd) tried to install a new o/s rebooting again during the install, after several tries got the o/s in the puter boots to the point of xp starting, then reboot or teases the heck out of me by actually opening xp to the welcome screen - then reboot. The box uses XP, the pwr supply is good and I am at a loss.

I come to you with a rather strange problem. I come to you because I have no idea where to begin diagnosing such a problem. I just ordered parts for a brand new computer, built it, and am now running it very happily. However, within the past few days (the computer was finished being built about a week ago), it's started randomly rebooting while undertaking routine tasks in Windows. There seems to be no logical software-related pattern to the reboots so I have no idea what's causing it. It happens thus: audio skips for a few seconds, I hear a click inside the computer, and then it just restarts.
As I said, there seems to be no software pattern to the reboots... The only recent hardware change is that I've put in the Firewire card (it came in later than the rest of the computer, so I ran a few days without it). I almost want to suspect the Firewire card is causing such a problem -- is that reasonable?
In addition to that, I have an external USB hard drive that's failing... it's connected via the Firewire, and one of the restarts happened when I turned off the drive. Assuming that means it's one of those two, could it be the hard drive or the Firewire from that?

I am really without a clue, the only hardware modification I have done is install two more 512mb sticks of ram. I had two and installed 2 more all same type Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200). So now I am running 2 gigs of ram. It rebooted and I got the boots screen to choose type of boot.....last good config, ect....I chose normal and it gave me the xp windows screen with the horizontal progress graphic and then it kinda hangs on a black screen for a bit and finally it will give me the user/password window.

I have a Sony Pentium 4 and Windows XP Professional. Things were working fine up until about 3 weeks ago when suddenly the system would reboot when I tried to print. The error message would take me to the Windows Update page and tell me to update the ethernet adapter, which was erroneous as it referred to an adapter I don't have. I've tried to delete the printer, but when I open the printer folder in Control Panel the system reboots before I can delete anything. I've upgraded the driver for the printer, which is an Epson C62. I cloned a desktop with dual boot for windows xp and windows vista in the respected order. after cloning, I went to an identical desktop and make the image restore so that it will be similar to the other one. I did this to save time installing and updating again which take so much time. after the restoring of the image is done, the system rebooted and represented the dual boot options (1. earlier version of windows, 2. Windows Vista) but when you click any of them it wont work and it will reboot in endless loop

I have a XP system that I thought I had fixed (random rebooting) this is pasted from my last post....
Now the machine.... Antec case with true 380s power supply, ABIT AV8 board,2 sticks of pc3200 512 mb ddr400 ram , Amd Athlon64 3500+ (not oc) ,Nvidia geoforcefx 5900xt card running XP Pro with SP1 installed.
What I have tried ...ran antivirus , ran spywarecleaner, defrag, ran memtest,adjusted to failsafe defaults in bios , flashed the bios, tried diff combinations of slots for memory, upgrade driver , upgraded via 4-1 drivers
A couple days ago figured it must be power supply (brand new one too) so I started unplugging devices ..second cd rom and fan pulled and everything has been running great since.Question before I drop $60 on power supply what should I look for , where is a good supplier and most important do you think this will solve the problem.

I am trying to reinstall windows using Windows Media Center Edition 2005. I ran the compatability wizard and everything seems to check out. Whenever I boot from cd, I get a black screen that says Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration. It stays there for about 5 seconds then reboots. If I attempt the same thing with WinXP Pro SP2 it loads fine.
I tried removing some ram, my extra dvd and hard drives, the external devices, and the pci cards. Still the same problem.

I have receintly purchesed a hybrid-self built computer, rather relyable and fast, but since i brought it home it would periodicly stop in mid function and reboot all while case lighting uninterupted. I tried to replace oem powersupply with a much more capible one of 700w and still system will stop in mid-function and reboot as if reset

ASUS laptop P3, 386MB RAM; XP2 - after scrubbing the drive of spyware and a virus - there was still one remaining - worm/spybot which included these 3 files: explore.exe, svshost.exe and windowsupdate.exe all of which are bogus files. I deleted these manually but did not find any registry entries (run once) that typically is associated with one of these files. Everything looked great until I rebooted because then XP starts, right after the logo screen things go black and the machine reboots forcing you to go to safe mode. You can go to safe mode once then reboot and come up into standard mode ok. Next time you reboot the reboot thing happens and you are stuck in this loop.

I recently just built this computer so its still all pretty much brand new. Im not really sure what is making it reboot but it seems like im always playing a game when it decides to do it. After somone else suggesting it was the ram i decided to check my ram with memtest86+ and during the scan my computer rebooted itself pointing that it was prolly the ram. So now i am using my old ram while the other 2 gigs is bein sent back for return and the computer rebooted itself on my old memory so now im pretty sure its not the ram. I understand that it could be numerous things such as a loose wire,drivers,crack in motherboard but it would be nice if the problem could be determined or atleast narrowed down.

I have been running Windows 2000 on a home built system for about three years. I recently started having problems with the system shutting down, continuous automatic reboots, Blue screen etc.I decided to go with the scorched-earth approach and re-partition and re-format the HD (Maxtor 80GB) and reinstall the OS. My problem as it stands is: My computer randomly reboots when utilizing graphics intensive programs. For example: games such as EverQuest, Final Fantasy XI, Quake III and programs such as Adobe ImageReady CS. I can't seem to establish any patterns between the crashes aside from they all seem to happen in graphics intensive programs (although ImageReady CS doesn't seem to be too graphically intensive to me). For a while, after a random restart, I would get an error saying my system has recovered from a serious error. Now I don't even get that. I just hang up on the "Welcome" screen in XP and have to ctrl+alt+del.When I first had a problem, I also had a problem that seems to be pretty common on the internet - My HD kep crashing and getting write errors to $Mft. So, I took the HD back (before I read about the problem) and it happened on the new hard drive. So, I called my friend and asked to borrow his XP SP1 CD to see if it might have some better effect on the situation than mine (my other friend suggested that it might have some problems copying certain files). When I reformatted and reinstalled with my friends version of XP SP1, I seemed to have no problems at all. No $Mft. Nothing. I upraded my motherboard drivers (including IDE bus/onboard sound/AGP driver), video drivers, directx. Still no problems. Then about 2 weeks after this, I started crashing randomly. I've scanned my computer multiple times for adaware/virus' and nothing has come up, so it's not that.
I've tried reformatting a few times and the same thing ends up happening in the end.I somewhat think its a complication between my video card and my motherboard versus my version of windows XP, and this is why:The odd thing is, if I plug in my old Hard drive (which I used with my new SAPHIRE RADEON 9700 for a little while before replacing it with a new one), I have no problems whatsoever. My computer is completely stable asside from the fact that the hard drive is slow. I replaced my video card about 3 months ago when my old GeForce went out. I used it with that old hard drive for a while with no problem. Then I got a new hard drive to give my computer a new kick -- and now I have nothing but problems.

My PC which I finished rebuilding on Thursday has been fine until today when it just restarts for no reason at all. The restarts are very random and very often, sometimes it restarts when Windows XP is loading, not good for keeping the boot files okay. Does anybody know what this may be, I haven't made any recent changes to the OS or hardware since I rebuilt it (and it has been fine since then).

On my comp, I could not reboot. Anyway I went(boot in safe mode,Last known...) the comp would just reboot and not go into Windows. I took the System diskl that came with it originally(2 years ago) and rep0aired the windows with the repair option instead of reinstalling windows completely. It worked fine, but i found windows to be XP service pack 1. I now updated service pack 1 completely and then updated to service Pack 2. Heres the prioblem. When Installing SP2 i kept getting Application errors for numerous Application stated below. On anyone of the Applications, the message was: instruction @ "ox5a00671a" referenced memory @ "oxff3fb084". The memory can not be "read".

I rebooted after a software install and could not get back into Windows. The machine just does a continuous reboot after the XP Splash Screen. I am having trouble with my computer rebooting while trying to copy large files 700 MB from a CD to the hard drive.I had this problem about 6 months ago when I was copying files from my Tivo to my PC.I am trying to copy to the same hard drive now that was giving me trouble then. There is a different amount of free space now while experiencing the problem than there was when I had the problem 6 months ago. The hard drive is a secondary hard drive used for data storage.

It seems my pc is doing something new that it hasent done before. Right in the middle of games the system just reboots on its own and then i get a Disk Consistency check. I have no idea whats doing this since it wont even give me a error message. Does anyone know what too look for here? A friend said overheating might cause this but he knows i got a big cooling system, even has a hard drive cooling system and a high speed CPU cooling fan with a exterior intake fan

Now my computer is experiencing worse problems. I can't get to my desktop or anything. When I turn the computer on, and it goes to the WIndows XP screen loading, it restarts every time it gets there. I can't even get to safe mode or anything. I'm currently using someone else's computer to report this problem.
