this is so weird. whenever i try and click a program on my start menuand/or quick launch they don't load. say i click 'windows mediaplayer'. i click it, nothing happens. to get into it i have to rightmouse click 'open'. it's very, very annoying. i need help, please. theonly application that will open the normal way is internet explorer.

Seems like every time I open some application it puts a link on the start menu, I realize I can delete this by right clicking it and choosing "remove this item from the list". How do I prevent it from being put there in the first place?

Also there is problem with my internet explorer. The Javascript is not working IE. The javascript option is enabled in internet options. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have problem with my videos. They are stored on my external hard drive and when i open the file where they are located windows says it needs to close the program. I never had a problem playing them in wmp before and i have restored my computer to an earlier date with the same results. I also have tried different media players and the only one that seems to play or view any videos is vlc. Most of the videos are avi but there are some mpg4. I'm also not able to burn dvd's.
i have one question my media plyer is not working they say the drivers are not there to play where cdan i find the drivers to download and install.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSay you have a favorite file that you like to listen to with your media player. With Winamp for example, when you start the program, the last media you were listening is scrolled along the bottom, but you must hit the play button to get it to play. If you listen constantly to one thing, you can make it load automatically. You can either make a copy of the shortcut and edit it, or you can edit the current shortcut. (If you ever change your mind, just delete the part you added.) Right click on the shortcut. Select properties. In the target box, after the shortcut, add the name of the file to play. For example, the default target to Winamp is "C:Program FilesWinampwinamp.exe". Add the name of your file after that. Example: "C:Program FilesWinampwinamp.exe" http://live.cobbscanner.com:8000 /Prefetch: 1
Note three things: A) you just need one space between start program and file. (It just shows up as a hyperlink here, it will not on your shortcut. B) The "/Prefetch: 1" at the end is not necessary, it just causes the program to load faster (another great tweak I found here.) C)The name scrolling along the bottom of your media player may not be the actual file name. To find it for sure (at least in Winamp), when the media player screen is up, right click the title's scrolling banner. View file info. It is the name at the top of the screen.
When I right-click, and choose "Remove from this list", nothing happens.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy start menu insists on collapsing itself, hiding all but about 2 or 3 items. It's really annoying; I have to click on the arrow to expand the menu to get to most of my programs. There's plenty of room to display all of the items on the screen, and it doesn't even to seem to choose to keep items I use frequently visible. Does anyone know how to stop this and force it to not hide anything?

I have tried changing the application location and then clicking on the Start Menu item so that I get an error message. The message asks whether I want to remove the item from the Start Menu and I click yes but that too does not work. I am tired of looking through the registry and cannot find anything relevant.

But I have alot, and it can get confusing rather quickly, but I found a way to include seperators to organize my data on the start menu.The first thing to do is create a new shortcut on the desktop. Select any file for the target, and under the name of the shortcut, use the trick to add a blank space for the filename (ALT+0160 on the keypad -- making sure NUMLOCK is on). Then click finish.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI lost the My Music and My Pictures icons on the start menu. I moved My Documents and was prompted to move the current items. I said (stupidly) yes. I noticed I had 2 music and picture folders in My Documents. I deleted the Folders that had been moved when I reloacated. When I went back to the start menu, My Music and My Pictures were gone. I looked in properties, and the two items were selected. I went to the registry and the entries for music and pictures were gone in UserShellFolders and ShellFolders. I recreated the entries. After all of this, there are still no icons for Music and Pictures on the start menu.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn last 24 hrs I am getting some very strange and vexing behavior from Windows Explorer and the start menu. Hope someone can help. The start menu programs pop up, but disappear before I can click them. Windows screen flickers at the same time when the start menu items vanish, and also flickers at other times. Fonts on the desktop, once just white, are now showing up white on a black rectangular background - didn't do any theme change. Windows Explorer has been crashing from time to time in the last week, no apparent reason. And the monitors are bleeding. Kidding about that last one, but am expecting it soon.

View 6 Replies View RelatedHaving recently had someone else using my computer for a while, installing various software (like winamp and SubEdit player) it seems windows media player (that's what I use) no longer recognises the usual files as media files like .mp3 .wmv .m3u .avi etc etc so when I click open file and select "media files (all types)" in the file type box it shows nothing, so I have to change it to all files which is irritating. Media player still plays everything fine but this is pretty annoying.

I used to be able to do it this way until quite recently. I can however, search by opening a new explorer window and hitting the "Search" button on the tool bar.I have looked on Microsoft KB for a solution and tried repairing it by following Article ID:913503, to no avail. When it's activated, HELPCTR.EXE runs for a few seconds and then exits. No help window. No entries in any of the event logs. Nothing to give me a clue. I have an HP m1180n (Pent 4) running the latest version of Windows Media Center.
