i am having 2 new computers built, and the store is installing windows xp home edtn (oem). they said that i needed to buy 2 copies of windows (one for each tower). is this true? you cant use one copy and load it onto both?
also, office. i have a copy of 2003 and i was wondering if i could load this onto both of my comps, or do i need to buy 2 copies of this as well. sorry cuz i am noob.
My nephews hp pc that had windows xp home edition on it. it was running hella slow and he didnt have a recover cd for his old hp pc he has. so i had a copy of windows xp home edition (service pack 2) so i erased the whole hard drive and reinstalled my copy of windows xp home edition and after that i needed to activate the product key! so i tried to put the product key i have but microsoft tells me its wrong and to retry it again! so i downloaded a product key finder V1.0 and it came up with a different product key, so i tried to use the product key what the key finder found and still micro soft says its not right and to retry again!! so now im so confuse and dont know what to do any more!! the window xp exspires in 26 days if i dont activated.

When I try to start in normal mode, it goes to the windows xp loading screen with the green loading bar and then goes blank, with my moniter blinking on and off. a checkdisk in safe mode returns no errors. the only things plugged into the motherboard are my cd drive and a video card.

The STOP message/blue screen appeared after XP loaded all the drivers. It is a clean installation on 2 new HDDs, so I assume the error is not caused by viruses. View 43 Replies View RelatedAnyway, when upgrading from Windows XP Home Edition to Windows XP Pro earliler this week, everything seemed to work fine and all the program icons I had from Windows XP Home appeared on the XP Pro desktop. However, my Internet Broadband/Dial-Up connection dissapeared from 'Network Connections' and I therefore could not connect to the internet, even though the ISP ('BT Broadband' - I'm based in the UK in case you wonder who BT are) icon remained on my desktop and their software appeared in Programs.
When I contacted my ISP they claimed this is a problem with Windows XP upgrade to Pro and I should contact Microsoft Support. Is this true?
Anyway, I've had to resort to doing a clean install of Windows XP Home again now in order to get back on the internet with my Broadband internet and installing my ISP's USM Modem software all over again. It worked, but still want to upgrade to XP Pro.
Any ideas on how this 'problem' can be resovled. Don't want to have to do a clean install again and again. Also, is It this a common problem with upgrading to Windows XP Pro from Windows XP Home as my ISP claim ?
Should I install SP2 on my XP home edition on my laptop? is this fine or are there problems related and or is it even neccesary.

Can I use an XP Media center sp2 rollup to repair the MBR and then delete the ubuntu partition? If so, is there a way to uninstall sp2 and sp1 so its just plain home edition so i can register it?and if not, is it even possible to get it registered with my old key if i contact microsoft? I have made a list of programs to make sure I can put them back on and I also have my entire hard drive backed up on an external hard drive so I can transfer my important files back over. My question is what all do I need to get the system to work again. I have the Win XP Home instalation disk as well as the driver disk from dell. Will the computer automaticaly start using the two CD drives and 3.5 drive or do I need drivers for them as well? Sorry if this is a rookie question. I just want to make sure once I wipe it out I am all set to get it back up and running. The reason I decided to do this now is that I have a few spyware and viruses that I am having trouble getting off. They arnt doing anything because of my firewall and other settings. I just want to wipe it off and start over with a clean slate.
