Websites Cant Be Displayed
Feb 16, 2005
My up to date anti virus told me the other day that it detected a trojan virus but that it was treated or whatever. well, today i go to get on my computer and all the websites say they cant be displayed or that the web browser is not working or my cookies are disabled. I have done all sorts of things that i read on here, i updated my Microsoft updates, i went to privacy and lowered that, i restored defaults on internet options and stuff. After all this I was able to see websites and check my email. But there is still stuff i cant do. I cant pay for my ebay, i cant play my games at yahoo. It directs me to a page with a little white box and some red and blue shapes in it. I am glad that i was able to at least get on the internet but i also need to do a few things.

I recently discovered the problem that after items were deleted the do not display in the recycle bin. My setting are set up so that they do. And if I click the "empty the recycle bin" it displays the usual message of if I am sure I want to delete the x amount of items. I have looked and made sure all hidden files were displayed in properties but it did not work.

The kids have found a new trick. They set the monitor so it is a mirror image. I don't mean rotated, but actually like a mirror (backwards). So if you go on Google, it reads elgooG, but the letters are backwards also. We use Intel Graphics media Accelerator Driver.

my OS is XP home edition with the second service pack. My problem is that IE won't connect. I know i have an internet connection because i can use SBC Yahoo! Browser, and MSN Explorer. But when i open IE6 it comes up with this at the top of the page: The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. To attempt fixing network connectivity problems, click Tools, and then click "Diagnose Connection Problems..."

Whenever i login and try to open Internet explorer or any internet browser on Windows XP, it gives me a message saying that the page could not be displayed. However, i am clearly connected to the internet as i can access it from Linux on the same computer and i can play on Xbox Live. Also, when i try to access the internet in safe mode with networking enabled, it still says that the page could not be displayed. Is there any way i can fix this without reinstalling windows because my computer did not include an XP disc when i bought it.

Occasionally when I search for a file or folder using Start>Search I get a report that one or more files were found but they don't get displayed in the display box. Sometimes, when I redo the search the results will get displayed. Does anyone have any idea how I might correct this problem? I have XP Home Edition.

I'm asking this advice for my wife's cousin. She just got a computer and is a real novice when it comes to using it. The problem she is having is when she launches an application, the desktop wallpaper image still stays displayed over the application screen. For example, when she launches Internet Explorer her home page of Google.com comes up but the background is not a plain white background but is the wallpaper image. The same thing occurs when she launches Microsoft Word. The document background is not a white page but is the wallpaper image. As far as I know the same thing happens for any application she launches. Unfortunately for me the computer with the problem is 200 miles away from where I live so I can't personally try to resolve this problem.

I'm using Windows XP Media Edition with SP2. Also use IE 6.Starting about 3-4 weeks ago, I must click twice on most links to get the link to work. This had happened just for Yahoo games, but now it's for most links. My home page is www.yahoo.com and it often is not displayed when I start my PC or use the Home icon. I get the message "The page cannot be displayed." The only thing I remember changing about a month ago was an Internet option to display graphics instead of getting the boxes with the red X's. Also, now any advertising on a web page always says "The page cannot be displayed." and nothing else is shown, except for a long error explanation.

I have been getting many errors saying that this page cannot be displayed. I did do a Google search, a search of this forum, and I read the lengthy Microsoft article, which is way over my head. I am getting the impression that there can be many reasons for this happening. I do get a message that says Javascript DoNet Detect. I did do a Windows update right before this started happening.

When I create a desktop shortcut to a website that has a favicon, the favicon is displayed in the desktop shortcut. This works for all sites, except for CNet. Would appreciate it if someone else running IE7 would confirm this behavior, or let me know why I may be having this problem. For CNet, I don't get a favicon, I don't even get a generic explorer icon.....I get a "blank" icon, no icon at all.

I restarted my computer after ripping some cd's and when it came back on I began ripping another before I opened a window and clicked on a folder only to notice it was working as shift-click. The rip finished and I restarted again and this problem was gone but a new one had replaced it - Windows Explorer no longer displays folder names. Please help if you can because reinstalling windows is a big hassle.

This morning I tried to find an old email from last week I wanted to print out. Found it, copied it, attempted to paste and print it to word. Then something happened. All my subfolders I had disappeared and my folders rearranged. Now when I open the message I get: "Message could not be displayed Outlook Express encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again." My computer has plenty of disk and memory space. I have restarted many times and have done a system restore, and still receive the same message. I have a Compaq Presario 5014US, XP , I have run my spyware and virus checker and found nothing. If anyone knows why I receive this message and how I can clear it

I have a 1 year old Dell Dimension 5100 with Internet explorer 6.0. I use Norton security and Ad-Aware SE Personal, both of which I think are up to date. The problem occured about 2 weeks ago when i found that that my Mum's company mailroom website suddenly stopped being accesable. When I try to access it a ''this page cannot be displayed'' page comes up briefly and then is replaced by ''Dell search'' page. I have scanned my computer several times for any viruses and I have removed tempory files, cookies, history, data miners and everything else that my scans found. I have also de-fragged my computer. I have visited the windows support website but it didnt work

I'm getting Page Cannot Be Displayed EVERY single time I open a web page. Whether it's a link or typed in the address bar. I have to refresh the page several times before the page comes up, if it even does at all. Usually, but not always, when the page does open no images appear, just placeholders. I've put in my windows disc and run sfc /scannow and re-registered a bunch of dll files and it seemed to work. for about 5 minutes. Then it went right back to doing it again. OE is also having a problem connecting to the internet. Sometimes it does and most times it doesn't.

I have installed via a USB socket on my computer a Belkin-branded Wireless USB adapater. This device, although removable, will not be removed regularly from the computer and so I would like the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon to not be displayed because of it, as it currently is. The option to hide the icon via the Taskbar properties is not the fix I am looking for, either.
