Virtual Memory Low Message / Windows Virtual Memory Minimum
Dec 10, 2004I keep getting the error message that my Windows virtual memory minimum is too low. I have Microsoft Windows 2000 and the following settings: total paging file size 205 MB; minimum 2 MB; Recommended 190 MB; Currently allocated 205 MB; current registry size 21 I'm not the system administrator so I can't change these numbers. I also couldn't find the pagefile.sys that someone suggested looking for. My IT guys don't know what's wrong; they reformatted my computer but I got this error message again. What should I tell them to do?

Dec 27, 2007I recently installed the program registery fix and i believe it has caused my Cd and DVD drives or the paths to these drives to be deleted from windows as they do not show up in my computer. I have tried the options in the following list but none of them have helped me, i'm really stuck but i can't fix the problem.
- I've tried deleting the upper and lower filters but they are not in the selected registery.
- I've tried a system restore but i can't go back to a previous point before the registery fix install.
- I've tried unplugging the leads and restaring but this didn't help.
- I've tried microsoft guided help but it couldn't find the upper and lower filters.
- i beleive they are still listed in my bios but don't know exactly what i'm looking for when in bios.
I don't know where to go from here, i also run alcohol 120% a virtual drive software and the registery fix has had no affected on these drives but i'm wondering if this maybe why the program registery fix deleted my actual drives becasue of the virtual drives and replaced the paths to my actual drives but i'm not sure it's just a guess. I've deleted the virtual drives and tried the steps above but i've had no luck.

Jan 5, 2005The computer is slow to load windows 2000. Takes several mintues to connect to the net. Message showing that "Virtual Memory is low". Have gone into "My computer" - then "advanced options" and increased virtual memory to 1500. There is a good amount of space on the disc. But actions made no difference and still get the message that the virtual memory is low. Speed of computer not improved.Will try "System restore".

I have installed Virtual Machine Additions on all three. I am able to set up and access a shared folder on the host system on one of the three with no problem but the other two refuse to access any shared folder. When I configure the shared folder, it shows up in the guest PC under MyComputer, but it shows as "disconnected" and is inaccessible.

Aug 9, 2006I have upgraded from windows 98 se to windows xp pro sp2 and when I did I no longer have cd and dvd listed in the device manager. I reformatted and put 98 back on and they are there and work fine. How do I get xp ro recognize my drives. I have a Dell Dimension XPS T800r with an NEC DV-5700A dvd and a SONY CD-RW CRS140E. I get a message when I log on to windows that windows could not load the installer for diskdrive and to contact my hardware manufacrer. Dell of course doesn't seem to have a clue about what is happening so any suggestions on how to get the drives back

Cannot Install Drives On SP2: How To Keep My Computer Operational?
May 10, 2008Have posted a few times here regarding this week-long attempt to get my machine back in operation. In a nutshell, had XP for 6 years with no major problems. Recently (in one session) updated monitor, added wireless keyboard/mouse, added memory, added USB 2.0 card and external drive, then updated to SP2, downloaded McAfee antivirus. Have not been able to keep machine running two days in a row since then. Each time did clean reinstall of XP with complete reformat of drive, this past time I only downloaded SP2, which was the only time it was connected to the net. Errors have popped up "files in registry had to be recovered by use of log, successful". Could not successfully install a video capture card which I had used in this system for years (drivers would not install from the cd). Could not successfully install drivers.

I've been running on the SATA drive for a few months now and I want to remove the IDE drive from my system but when I disconnect it and reboot I get a message that tells me NTLDR is missing so I am assuming that the boot record is on the IDE drive. How can I make the SATA drive my main boot drive?

Feb 27, 2010I want to install Windows XP on a new SATA HDD drive. The computer in question came with Windows Vista installed. There is no IDE option in the BIOS. There is no floppy drive on the unit. So it looks like I might have to slipstream all the drivers, etc., on to the unit (which I have no clue how to do). I do not have the motherboard make or model number, nor do I have the motherboard CD. My business partner is trying to take the cover off the laptop as we speak, but we're having trouble getting it off. Thus, as of now, we can't identify the motherboard manufacturer or the serial number.
Can anyone here point us in the right direction? The computer in question is a Compaq Presario c769us (laptop). It was purchased in June 2008. This all started when my business partner decided to use a Vista System Recovery CD to overwrite the existing copy of Vista that he had on the computer. After he ran the disk, the system stopped working. So right now, we have the old hard drive, which contains a non-working copy of Vista on it (which we can 't delete), and we have the new hard drive (a 250 GB Hitachi). So maybe we could just delete the copy of Vista on the old hard drive - the self drive test checked out okay on the old hard drive. So I guess the two options are - figure out a way to put XP on the NEW hard drive, or figure out a way to put XP on the OLD hard drive and delete Vista from it first. If we can put XP on the old hard drive and remove Vista from it, we could take the new hard drive back, and get our money back, too.

Aug 3, 2010I have a Acer Aspire AM5640-E5520A Intel Pentium 2 QUAD, 2.4GHz with a MCP73PV motherboard and SATA drive. When I try to install XP (which I like better than Vista) the set up acts ok ,loading files, until it gets to "setup is starting windows".. Then I get the BSOD and a message saying STOP:0x0000007b. I have tried to change the bios setting for the HD to IDE but I do not find anything about storage or AHCI. All i see is a place to change raid configuration. Raid is disabled. But i have tried it with raid being enabled.

Feb 14, 2005I have two computers, one I use for gaming, the other for school. Both computers had 60gb Maxtor (school with lots of room, gaming with about 10 gb free). My school HD took a powder (the evil clicky noise of doom), but I was able to back up my files prior to that. Me being a quick thinker, I decide to upgrade my gamer puter to a 120gb (don't wanna go too nutso, as I am considering building a much superior computer), and put the good 60 gb in my old Athlon 700. Problem? I cannot get Windows XP Home to complete install on my gamer computer. (Athlon 700 installed just fine with 'good' 60gb).Gamer Computer: Athlon 1800+, 512MB DDR Ram 2100, KR7A Raid MOBO, GeForce3 Ti 200 (128MB DDR RAM), SB Audigy 2(AGP).
It is a RAID mobo, but i do not use the raid functionality, I did not have a problem before(I have my HD and my 2 roms on ide now). I go through the install steps, and I get to the very very end, where it states you are about to start Windows XP, and then it hangs, and thats it.I have tried to ensure there are no conflicts, I pulled out my sound card as well as my network card, and 're-seated' my video card and RAM. I have tried looking at using a winxp bootup floppy, booted into safe mode (the only error it detects is the missing RAID, no conflicts detected there). Heck, I even swapped out mouse and keyboard. I tried putting back the good 60gb back in the pc, and reformatting, but still get the same thing(sometimes the screen is black, sometimes the icky blue of xp, but that's it).I have no idea now. I did make sure that my bios was up to date before taking down the system originally, and it was, so no change was made there. Even swapped out the ribbon cables to ensure nothing was damaged on original removal.

Oct 7, 2009My themes were all working fine but one unfortunate day i was installing one of the themes and it asked me to reboot from then on am not able to use any of the downloaded themes but i can use the themes i had installed prior to that i can use the themes i installed after that fatal installation. now the problems am facing are if i double click on a windows visual style file the themes (normally a window open with a preview of the theme) i dont get the preview of the new theme but the preview of the previously applied theme. If at all i save all the windows visual file to default themes folder and the go to properties->themes-> i just get a black box in center and if i apply that i get windows classic theme *the other problem is i get shrill noise which is unberable sometimes from the pc. i dunno how to rectify it.

However; if I start up my computer and open these programs - they can not find the drives, I have to open My Computer first and double click on the drives before the programs will read from them. I am guessing that for some reason Windows is not connecting to these drives, even though I have set them to "reconnect at logon".

I have 5 internal HDD's and 2 external USB drives, I also have 2 DVD R/RW +- Dual Density drives, a Zip 250 and an Orb 2GB drive. So far this year I have had to reinstall my Windows like 8 times and done about 4 Windows repairs! Each time I seem to get 4 extra removable drives added to my system.
