Updating Intel Integrated Audio Sound Card
Mar 24, 2005
I'm trying to upgrade my sound card so I ran DXDIAG (log at end of post) and it says that my sound card is an Intel(r) Integrated Audio and the driver version is 5.10.0000.3523 (English). The date is from late 2001(!) so I obviously want to update the thing. The problem is that I can't find an update file or driver anywhere! I don't know if I'm being retarded or what but there must be some update available since 2001.

I recently bought a new PC, Pentium 4 3ghz, that came with integrated sound and graphics. I sorted a graphics card out straight away but am now looking to get a sound card. It's a family PC and apart from using it for homework/work/internet, it's also used a lot for games, music and watching DVD's. I'm looking at spending around £50, can anyone recommend a sound card. I've done a little research on the net but for every good review I find a bad one so it's not really helping Any recommendations and as to why would be received gratefully.

Reinstalled XP and since that moment the audio disapeared. I have a clone from ECS, model M925, board V7.3 with XP SP2 but sound card is onboard. Recently bougth a new Inland sound card requiring me to disable the onboard sound device and I did it but still nothing. The device manager is still showing a not-working PCI simple communication controller. The new pci sound card still is dead.
How can I fix this problem?

I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP and now I am having two issues. The issues are Integrated Network Adapter not working and no sound from the Integrated Sound Card/Adapter. My Integrated Network Adapter is from Intel (which is built on the Motherboard), and I cannot find the Compaq Restore Plus! CD, Restore Supplemental Software CDs. I emailed Intel about the Network Adapter problem. My Integrated Sound Card/Adapter comes from a company called SoundMax. I would like to know where to download the Drivers for these two devices.

I succesfully update my BIOS "flash it" but lately , my sound its making some funny stuff ( like... poping sounds) and the "cliki sounds" of Windows when you open a folder, change page, etc. sometimes it sounds like a interference of a radio (bruugggtttt ) short my sound example ok , well , then it fix by itself , but then later comes again . my windows media player sounds ok, for now , havent notice slow in music yet , but musicmatch somtimes sounds funny , just the start opening music (intro) but songs OK.by the way I update my nero , so I uninstall and install the new version , I didn,t configure Nero to open wav files or sound files .should I need to update my sound driver for the chipset of SoundMax ?

however many times i try to restart the sound doesn't come on, on my newly installed XP proffesional SP2. this also used to happen to my other operating system media centre edition but not as often as SP2. in media centre edition i used to go to the control panel> sounds and then exited and restarted and everything was ok, but now nothing gets the sound up?? i cannot increase the sound level cause it tells me that the device is not found.
ok this is also a problem for the intel graphics card i have which isn't being recognized by XP. when i do run>dxdiag the graphics card properties and the sound card properties dont come up.

I do not know how to determine the CPU load of audio on a motherboard how to determine if the sound includes a digital signal processor (DSP). I assume a DSP, especially for older CPUs (600 MHz. or so) is a big improvement because it offloads a lot of processing from the CPU. I am interested only in stereo. How can I know if an add-in sound card with a DSP is actually an improvement? Does the DSP overweigh other issues, eg. does a cheap Mad Dog Prowler 4.1 DSP sound card offer an improvement over the motherboard sound of a Compaq DeskPro ENS/P600? Truth is, I've been looking for but have not seen a treatise on this topic. Does anyone have any links for me to pursue?

I just got a new computer with an AMD Duron processor, 512 M RAM and Windows XP. Only problem is I've got no audio. I've checked BIOS and sound is enabled but Windows doesn't seem to recognize that the speakers are hooked up. When I tried to play system sounds from the Control Panel, I got an error message that said cannot play sound, your sound card may be in use. The computer was a gift that was bought used and the shop didn't have any documentation with the system. I think this might be a driver issue but I'm not sure how to find out which driver to try.

I recently purchased a refurbished computer from Fry's Electronics. It seemed like a very good deal, so I went ahead and took it along with others who were taking them.
I finally got my internet up and I began to play Counter-strike. The sound sometimes messes up. I can hear other peoples shots just fine, but when I shot, it is almost silent.

This started last night, the only thing that I did that was out of the ordinary was ran Avast's thourough scan fully, but even after that my sound worked, so it didnt delete the driver to my knowlege, but when I do a dxdiag and look at my audio, it doesn't exist, there is no sound card installed, and allI use is my DFI Lan Party UT RDX200 CF-DR mother boards on board sound. I tried installing the driver again fom DFI and to no success, now when I went to install the drive again, I got an error saying that this device isnt approved by Windows. Could windows be preventing my audio card from working?

I did a reinstall of Windows XP and I can't get the sound to work. Here is the sound card:Sound Blaster Live! Platinum rev.5 CT4760P. My computer is upgraded and so it is a hybrid system. I downloaded the driver for Sound Blaster Live! from the website and it still has the same problem. To be sure there was no on board sound, I took out the card and the computer said I had no audio devices which means there isn't a on-board sound card.

I got my updated Display driver no problem, but the Sound is another story. According to the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, I was using a Crystal Audio Driver from Cirrus Logic. So, I Googled a newer version of the driver and found one. When I told it to install, nothing happened, so I thought, well, I'll just uninstall my first one and then install this new one and everything will work. After I uninstalled my previous driver, the new one still wouldn't install. So I tried to reinstall the driver. Then I downloaded a driver from the official Cirrus web site and every time I click the "install" button, a message always pops up saying "Driver didn't install correctly." It doesn't tell me why or how or ANYTHING. And now my computer has no sound! Whenever I check the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, it tells me, "No sound card was found."

just recently experienced a no audio problem on my computer. Originally had a c-media card installed with everything working ok , then suddenly no sounds at all. Removed card and installed spare Sound Blaster Audigy and downloaded latest drivers. Everything installed ok. No conflicts in Device Manager, proper card identified in control panel/sounds. Windows sound on reboot , but after reboot nothing again. After countless removal of sound card in Device Manager and re-installing drivers , no change. Removed card and re-verted back to on board audio. Realtek high definition audio with latest and original cd AC-97 drivers. Now no audio device available in Control panel/sounds. Within the Realtek HD Audio Control panel I can test speakers and hear sound ok.

I just started experiencing this problem last night and I've tried to fix it, and at some times it seems like the problem is gone but then I'll do something else and it'll come back.Anyways basically I was listening to my itunes last night, and all of a sudden the songs started to cut out...like the sound would go dead for a few seconds, and then come back...so I switched songs, thinking maybe it was just a problem with the mp3 file. But it did that with all the other songs I tried playing too, so I was like okay well something is definitely wrong here.

My kid is home from LSU with a laptop with no sound. She can't hear her music or UTube, but video works great. I know it's a crummy laptop, but we're trying to band aid it until she graduates and buys herself a better one.Dell Inspiron 700 Windows XP--there is no sound and no error messages. Of course the mute button is off. We went to the Dell website and downloaded the audio driver, but still nothing. We'll try anything short of buying a new laptop or motherboard.

Unknown Device on High Definition Audio Bus.In the Audio Device section, there are NO Playback Devices, NO Recording Devices, No Midi Playback and the same in the Voice section. Usually I have Realtek listed there.

My computer has recently started playing the System Notification sound that is defined as Windows XP Balloon.wav in the Sounds and Audio Device Properties at seemingly random intervels, and I cannot seem to find out what application is triggering the playing of this sound. I am sure it is this sound specifically as I changed it up and the change was reflected in the sound that was playing. I have also been checking the event viewer under Administrative tools and haven't noticed any events that correspond with the issue at hand. It's slowly driving me crazy! I have heard a ton of good stuff about your forums and thought I would give it a try.

I have XP Home with an Avance AC 97 sound card, probably the cheapest one made. The sound is horribly screechy and distorted on the high end of the spectrum. So I am thinking I might buy a better sound card. I have seen a lot on the Internet that are XP compatible at different prices. Is anyone able to advise on a good, resonably priced card that produces great sound? Also, am I correct in assuming that my present card is a free-standing unit and not part of the motherboard, so that I would be able to remove it and install a new one.
