Does Uninstalling Service Pack 3 Remove Service Pack 2
Aug 8, 2008Once I installed sp3, I could not get past the windows loading screen, so I started in safemode and uninstalled sp3 that way. My question is, does uninstalling sp3 remove sp2 as well. I can not see sp2 under add/remove programs, but my windows update history says I downloaded sp2 last May.

Jan 1, 2008I normally remove the updates/SPs from my Windows folder after a few days of running with the SP installed. All those packs can take up a ton of space. I move them to a separate folder for safe keeping for about a week, then, if all is well, I delete them. I don't think I've deleted the IE7 SP, but I don't know what the SP number is.

I have downloaded it and it gets to final stages of instalation (performing cleaning) and then I get an error message saying that it could not complete installation. I have a proper copy of win xp and have used it for ages and registered it. The problems came when I got a new motherboard and it asked me to register windows which I did successfully. When I went to download SP2 it told me I had to register windows and to follow certain steps in the control panel.

Feb 19, 2005Today I got a new computer, and set up a home network with my DSL connection. Well, I noticed that my older computer hadn't been updated in a while so I downloaded/installed all the new XP updates, including SP2. Well as soon as I did that, Windows would not boot. So I turned off auto-reboot when it encounters an error. Even worse. Now I can't even go into safe mode, unless it's the command line. So I decided, what the heck, I need to clean up anyways. And I try to reinstall windows, my CD won't load. So now I'm stuck with a nice blue paperweight that won't boot windows and I can't boot the XP CD. If anyone has encountered this problem, and fixed it, please reply. If not, I'm getting Redhat right now, and going to install that, format, uninstall and put XP back in. I was just hoping for an easier way out.

Oct 26, 2009I just installed Windows XP Pro onto a band new drive. Installed the drivers and the antivirus. Next I went to get widows updates. I went to express because I was in a hurry. It installed service pack 2. Now it will not go into windows in any form. I have tried safe mode and regular mode. It gets to the XP loading screen in normal mode then reboots. In safe mode it runs through the list of files that it loads then reboots. Is my only way to reinstall windows?? Ihave had a fit to try to get into this machine. I hate to start from scratch again.

Apr 7, 2007I'm relatively PC challenged [not entirely though please bear in mind]I bought a new PC and took delivery late Thursday last [the day before Good Friday]. The place I bought it from is in another city about 150km away and as luck would have it, has closed now for a few weeks. So I'm on my own til then.Started it up first time successfully and added a new user. Didn't add any programmes. Next time I tried to start it got a message:Windows rootsystem 32 hal.dll missing or corrupted.Re-booted and now I get to black screen with Safe Mode, Last Known Config etc otions. I can boot into safe mode but none of the others work. They all just start up the "Windows Starting" page then it re-boots itself and goes through the same cycle. If I leave it then it will just keep cycling like this.Tried booting into safe mode and looked at System Restore but there is no earlier version to restore to.
Service Pack Is Not Downloaded
Nov 19, 2008I recently took the liberty of downloading a trojan. Having been gifted with the ability of NOT knowing that much about computers, I decided to just format the harddrive and start over. Seemed simple enough. Apparently when I reloaded XP from the cd that came with the laptop (Pavilion zd8000) I screwed the pooch. I think I went through the repair console. It never asked me to punch in the registration code. Now, everytime I boot, it goes to a black screen with white lines across the bottom the fill in slowly as though it is running a scan disc on bootup. It literally takes about twenty minutes to boot! I went out and did the microsoft updates, and it grabbed everything but service pack 3.
