I have been using Remote Desktop on XP Home edition for nearly three months. I have been told that Remote Desktop on XP Home edition will expire after 90 days of use. Is this true and how do I tell how many days I have left? I use it to connect to work daily so I can't afford to wait until it expires (if indeed it does).

View 3 Replies View RelatedA long time ago I started looking into this because my mum has a PC with XP Home on and I am running XP Pro (both fully up to date), however I seem to recall reading that you couldn't remote into a XP Home machine, only into a XP Pro machine, is this correct? Ideally I would like to try and sort this out so I can sort out any problems with my mums PC if/when they arise without having to try and talk her through it on the phone which can be quite difficult at times.

I have enabled the remote computer for remote logins but for some reason I cannot connect with it. I get the error message that the client could not connect to the remote session. I have 50 other computers on this network all set up the same way and have never had a problem. Everything seems to be configured exactly the same. I can ping the remote computer.

I am logged in to a machine via remote desktop and another user with admin rights logs in via remote desktop and logs me off because they assumed that I had forgotten to log off or whatever else. Is there any permission setting either in group policy or elsewhere that would prevent a user attempting to connect via remote desktop from logging off an already logged on user? The problem is that both users are and need to be Admins.

The problem im having is in most cases i can not print from a local machine while in remote desktop unless the printer is on an LPT prtiner port.I have the printer shared on every Local machine, Rdp is setup coreectly also but still no printy. View 2 Replies View RelatedAnyway, when upgrading from Windows XP Home Edition to Windows XP Pro earliler this week, everything seemed to work fine and all the program icons I had from Windows XP Home appeared on the XP Pro desktop. However, my Internet Broadband/Dial-Up connection dissapeared from 'Network Connections' and I therefore could not connect to the internet, even though the ISP ('BT Broadband' - I'm based in the UK in case you wonder who BT are) icon remained on my desktop and their software appeared in Programs.
When I contacted my ISP they claimed this is a problem with Windows XP upgrade to Pro and I should contact Microsoft Support. Is this true?
Anyway, I've had to resort to doing a clean install of Windows XP Home again now in order to get back on the internet with my Broadband internet and installing my ISP's USM Modem software all over again. It worked, but still want to upgrade to XP Pro.
Any ideas on how this 'problem' can be resovled. Don't want to have to do a clean install again and again. Also, is It this a common problem with upgrading to Windows XP Pro from Windows XP Home as my ISP claim ?
Should I install SP2 on my XP home edition on my laptop? is this fine or are there problems related and or is it even neccesary.
