Starting yesterday my comp has begun to restart for no particular reason. Sometimes I can be on for a while, other times I can barely do a thing before it reboots. I first noticed it when I went to an Amazon page. I thought nothing of it, but upon going back to that same page it happened again. I assumed their must have been some bug in the page causing that, however unlikely that seemed. But soon after the computer was restarting seemingly at random. And for some odd reason if I click on my Ad Aware desktop icon this will also prompt the comp to restart. I'm stumped. I'm hoping it's just some virus I managed to pick up, and not a problem with the hard drive.

My XP has been randomly locking up for about 3 weeks now. I went out and bought a new fan thinking it was a over-heating issue. but the problem persists. I then went out and bought a new video card, thinking the same thing, again, the problem persists.

My system specs are in my .sig, but in short I'm running Windows 2000, Norton Systemworks 2003 with NAV autoupdating, I've run AdAware and Spybot with no hits, and have received no indications of a virus. This problem happened before, a couple of months ago, I had to replace my profile to fix it.What happens is, after some random amount of time after a reboot/restart, the Start menu will only have about 4 items in it, and everything on the desktop becomes unclickable - no response at all to clicks, whether mouse or keyboard. Everything seems to be working normally, but nothing will respond to me. Logging off and back on will fix the problem

My computer randomly crashes and also reboots on it's own a few times a week, but I'm sure this isn't normal.I'm running Windows XP.There's no pattern when these problems occur. I could be surfing the web, playing a game or my computer would sit and idle for a little bit... then it'll reboot. This started happening a few weeks ago, but figured I could live with it. Unfortunately, it's gotten on my last nerve and I really wanna know why it does these things and how I can fix the problems.

I recently had a CD burner installed in this current computer, the associated software is Nero Express and works very well. I was told that I could upgrade my Nero 5 software, which is on another computer CD burner. I un-installed Nero 5 and upgraded to Nero Express and got all sorts of problems, example - all the desktop icons disappeared and I could only get programmes from the taskbar. So I un-installed Nero Express and re-installed Nero 5. This resulted in Windows 2000 Pro. re-booting itself continually. Up to the present time no-one has been able to provide me with a solution. Office 2000 Pro. is my choice for emails and all office work. Other programmes that I used were Spybot S.& D., Microsoft Anti-spyware Beta and A.V.G. Contacting the Nero site has proved to be an exercise in futility, so here I am asking for help. The start-up process works alright as far as 'Setting up Network Connections' and then re-boots.

I have a minor problem in that fairly frequently my system will freeze when I close a window by clicking on the top right "X", although it seems to close normally when using the "Edit-Close" function. On freezing, Taskmanager indicates that "explorer.exe" is running 100% CPU resource, and can only be closed by rebooting via reset button. The only thing of any possible concern I've noticed is that there are 11 apps sharing IRQ7, while my laptop with the same OS and a similar set of applications does not even use IRQ7, and has no more than 2 apps on two IRQs.There may be no correlation between the freeze problem and the IRQ setup, but it makes me uneasy.

I have recently acquired a Dell Studio 1555 laptop with the above configuration. My OS(and drivers) were partialy instaled by the seller. Now here is the problem. After I installed the network lan and wireless adapter(using the dell official drivers), I noticed that IE doesn't work. As I'm a Firefox person myself I just let it pass, but then I noticed that other things like the Java Runtime online installer, Yahoo messanger online installer, Blizzard downloader, Yahoo messanger itself(I got the full kit downloaded and installed it), don't work. The message is the similar on all of them: check if your firewall or your internet settings do not forbid access to X. Clearly, the firewall is off and the security settings are checked and shouldn't be a problem. So I got back to the internet explorer, thinking that all these are somehow related. I "used diagnostic tool" then "view log".

From what I gathered, he connected a Network Bridge card to his laptop (windows xp) so he could improve his XBox online gaming speed and his computer hasn't been the same.He is unable to go online. Here are some details: he has 2 network bridge icons that he can't delete. He has 2 internet cconnections (apart from his DSL connection which isn't connected) that appear to be connected to who knows what. So that is 3 connections running when he should have just 1.When he tries to connect to the internet, is may show he's connected on the bottom toolbar but the window shows says he is not. Everything runs slow. He cannot open the Network Connections Wizard (whatever it is, i have a mac). When he tries to shut down it takes really long. So basically everything isn't running the way it should.

I have a video app that plays video compositions that I have created, it also sends an audio signal out to my audio mixing app which I use to score my video comps and mix their audio, however running both apps at once causes a problem, as soon as I interact with my audio app, the focus switches away from my video app and playback stops It's very important to me that I can run and work with both of these apps simultaneously and I'm trying to find ways to do this, I have 8 gig of ram, a fast duel core processor and XP64, what are my options? Can I somehow force both apps to remain in front and not to switch focus? Would running two operating systems at once on the same pc allow the two apps to be interacted with, without interfering with each other? Are there any other options open to me, perhaps using "Virtual machines" on my PC?

So i've been using Outlook Express for my Hotmail accounts for a while now but recently I've been using Outlook at work for my work email only and I really enjoy the features of it (the calender, interface, etc). So I tried using Outlook at home and put my two hotmail accounts into it and everytime I try to use it, it freezes. I have two hotmail accounts, one for business and one for just goofy stuff. Are the two accounts conflicting when I try to use Outlook? If so, why doesn't it happen when I use Outlook Express

I keep getting random crashes and I don't know how to go about diagnosing the problem. Every so often I get random STOP error messages, and from the articles on the Microsoft Support site it appears to be a driver problem, but I don't know which driver. These are the errors I got recently (in order)

So I've done some research on the Memory Management BSOD error. It say that it's probably some sort of conflict with a new peice of Hardware...the only thing is I haven't installed any new hardware. I think that it is a problem with a program I installed called Intellisynch that I got from Yahoo so I could synch my Yahoo address book with my Outlook Express Address Book. Now whenever I I start Outlook Express, I get the BSOD, I've uninstalled Intellisynch but I'm still getting the BSOD's when I start Outlook Express. Here's the BSOD info and the info from "Hijack this" that I ran:

I keep getting the following pop-up error message: "window-system error- there is an IP address conflict with another system on the network". I don't really understand it, but I guess I should do something about it. Can anybody give me an idea? I saw in another, similar yet unresolved posting that the experts requested IP Config details. I was about to post those here, but am not very knowledgable about security. Before posting such data in a forum, is there anything that I should exclude in order to avoid the meddlesome entry of reprobates?

And the Win XP is not correctly installed. I want to un-install the Win XP and delete the files in the system and keep the original installation of Win XP Media Center.

While working on my wireless on my laptop and logged onto our wireless signal, my pc advised me that it had picked up a second ip address that now conflicts with another item running on my network. Why would there be a second IP address? What does this mean? What do I do about it? I am running XP home, Zone Alarm in stealth mode and my router is a linksys. Not sure what other information I would need to provide. I click on the message in hopes that it would provide more info, but it just dissappeared. There doesn't seem any change in my computer as far as I can see.

I got XP PRO sp2 a few weeks ago and microsoft has downloaded their automatic (hot fix) updates about 20-25 times. The last download failed and the the message read that I would have trouble booting XP because of that failure. Well, they were right because now Xp will not boot up-- it just keeps rebooting.
To try to correct this I have tried to use my XP CD to repair it but it asks for a password from an administrator-- that's not me
I have tried F5 to get into safe mode, safe mode command prompt, last known good configuration..., and debugging mode and nothing works.

This has been going on for a couple of months now.The PC would just reboot all of a sudden, usually when we pop in a CD in the drive, or log on to another user account. When we try to turn the PC on, it takes about 5-10 reboots before it goes on to the Windows logo (or whatever you call that). I'm worried that it might be a virus. I tried Trend Micro's Online scan and left it for a while only to find that the PC reboot in the middle of it, and now, I can't get the scanner to work anymore (I keep getting this error message.) Also, to be honest, we usually leave the PC on for days on end, so overheating might not be so out of the question. Aside from overheating, I just wanna know what else we have to troubleshoot for regarding this problem? Is it possible that a virus is causing it? That's all, I just need a troubleshooting checklist.

The problem is it will not boot. It only shows the first screen where it tells you the type of processor and bios chips, it gives the cpu type, then I guess it tests the RAM, the cache sram, then system bios shadowed, then video bios shadowed, then it states the hard drive, then cd drive and the last thing on the screen is " mouse initialized" then it just keeps restarting over and over. If I try to go into safe mode, it does give me all the options, however when I choose safe mode, it just goes into that same screen since it is the begining of the boot and it keeps restarting again. He is running windows xp, I tried to do a repair install but I guess I have a different version of win xp and it doesnt give me the option to repair.

I just installed an Audigy 2 ZS and everything works fine until I reboot; at which time my computer goes mute. There is nothing muted in the Volume Control applet, the Device Manager shows no conflicts, and onboard sound has been disabled. I'll post an abbreviated DXDIAG (this is with sound operational, if matters.Uninstalling the card, rebooting and, after letting windows detect the new hardware, reinstalling the driver, will correct the problem. Until I reboot again, at which time the computer is again, mute.

last week, my computer froze and my dad unplugged the power cord since he was the one using and now the xp keeps rebooting. it does not matter if i choose, safe mode, last known config, it keeps rebooting. it goes as far as letting you see the xp welcome screen, then for a second, you can see the bsod and it reboots. i have dual boot fedora/xp, both os in one hard drive. i replaced the original mobo about 3 months ago and now fedora does not work either. last night i downloaded pclinuxos live cd and booted off that cd and i can see all my files in the xp partition. so i thought it would be a simple, boot off the xp cd, select install xp, then select repair existing partition, but now after i select "install xp", the c partition shows up empty, as if there were no files in it. this is odd because when i restart, and select to boot windows normally it goes as far as the xp welcome screen, so obviously, xp is there. i also think there is something wrong with the mbr since i cant no longer see the grub dual boot selection screen. any help that you can provide is appreciated. this box is used in a small business and i would like to avoid having to reinstall. my specs, intel p4 2.8 lga 775, 1gb dual ram pc2 4300, intel mobo,
