Boot - Ntsf.sys File Messed Up

Dec 25, 2004

I just built a new PC for my dad and was installing XP home and it was partially done copying the files to the hard drive, then it got an error saying the ntsf.sys file was messed up and it shut down windows to prevent damage to the system. Then I rebooted thinking it would want to reinstall an OS, but it just loads to the first screen where it displays your video card type and it says

Bad BIOS checksum. Starting BIOS recovery...
Checking for floppy...
floppy not found!
Checking for CD_ROM...
CD-ROM found.
Reading file "P4P800SE.ROM".
Start Erase...
Start Program...
Flash Failed!

I couldn't get to the CMOS settings during the power on, so I manually reset them by taking out the on-board battery and switching the jumper on the mobo to reset them then replacing the jumper to its normal spot and put the battery back. After doing this, when i boot up it still says Bad BIOS checksum. And i have no idea what to do. I'm guessing part of the problem is that windows is partially installed.

Pro Dual Boot - Messed With Boot.ini

Jul 3, 2009

I'm running a home built PC with multiple hard drives. Award bios. I'm not sure if what I want to do is possible but here goes: I installed Win XP SP2 on my spiffy new hard drive, installed all updates and drivers, as well as virus software and what not. I then imaged this drive using XML. Point being if anything goes bad or buggy I can just restore the image. I also want to be able to use this image as source for a dual boot machine, giving me an OS that I mess up without harming my main install. I have currently restored the image to another hard drive, but cannot get it to run. I've messed with the boot.ini's, and only get errors. What am I missing here? Are there other steps I need to take to get this to work, or am stuck reinstalling windows for dual boot to take effect.

System Change - Ntsf Or Fat 32?

Apr 10, 2008

Last year I installed Windows XP on my pc. During the installation it ask me to choose ntsf or fat 32. I made a mistake I think and chose ntsf. I know the system was fat 32 when I bought it with Windows ME installed. This computer has not worked well since I did the new install. Is it possible to change it back to fat 32 or do I need to do a new install?

Store Data From A NTSF HD Onto A FAT32 HD?

Sep 2, 2005

I have a HP Pavilion a250Y running a Pentium 4 with WinXP Home.

The "installed" 80GB HD has had it's boot sector scrambled and will no longer boot up. I installed a second 20GB HD from a previous HP computer that I now have up and running with Win XP Home. I want to reformat the 80GB HD and would like to temporarily store data from this drive onto the 20GB HD. The main concern I have is that the larger drive is formated in NTSF and the smaller in FAT32.

Questions:

#1 Can I store the NTSF data on the FAT32 drive just to keep it protected with only the intent to transfer it back to the 80GB HD after reformating?

Bsod Error 0x00000024 - Bad RAM Corrupt Ntsf Files

Aug 28, 2009

I bought a bare bones computer kit (2,actually-- the other one is working fine) and have been running up against 2 diff bsod errors. The first error I encountered was 0x00000050. Symptoms: Computer stopped working, flashed bsod, couldn't reboot. It would appear to start, lights would come on, but screen would remain black and wouldn't get that reassuring little beep. If I turned off computer and waited 20 min or so, then it would start up again and work for a short while before getting bsod again. I tried reseating everything, making sure plugs were plugged. I pulled out one of the RAM then reinstalled windows xp after reformatting drive. Everything seemed to be working great!

To test and see if it was the RAM, I pulled out the working RAM and replaced it with the other one. I booted up and immediately got BSOD with different error message--the 0x00000024 one. It would restart, start me on the screen saying it encountered an error and which mode did I want to start in. No matter what I selected, I would get the bsod error. I put in the 'good' RAM. No change. I put in the other RAM so now both were in. No change. I put in the Windows XP disk and selected repair. It is now running chkdsk /r. did putting in the 'bad' RAM cause the disk error? It's a little late now to pull out the second RAM, but I'm worried that I'll still end up with an issue because I have both in there. After running this, should I run it again with the 'good' RAM only? or is there a different issue entirely going on that I should check?

Im new to this forum but i am so thankfull that this site is hereMy problem is my 11 year old son downloaded a program that was supposed to find duplicate copies of files on his PC and delete them.Well he did this but in doing so he deleted some boot files(i beleave) and he cannot boot up.He downloaded the 4 bootdisk files from the net but still will not boot up from floopy drive either. The error message reads this>>> 'Windows 2000 could not start up because the following file is missing or corrupt....<windows 2000 root>system32 toskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the file. His computer is a IBM with windows 2000 loaded.I beleave there are 2 copies of windows 2000 on his computer because when he tries to bootup it gives him a choice of either copies.Ive tried the windows 2000 CD to boot in the cd-rom drive but either its not reading or maybe its because the disk is a copy and not original.

My Computer Is Really Messed Up

Feb 26, 2005

I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP, and every since I upgraded my computer had been a mess. I don't think my Virus Scan is working right and I have eTrust EZ Armor 2005 which is one that Microsoft recommends. My floppy drive isn't working either. I get a error message that says my driver is corrupt Error 39. My memory got full. I have 10 GB memory and I only have 4.17 left now. I have 512 Ram in my computer, but I don't know how much is left and don't know how to find out. Since I upgraded I can no longer shut my computer down from my desk top. I go to Start and click turn off my computer, then I go to shut down. I seems to go through the motions, but a screen comes up and says it is safe to shut my computer down, well it won't shut down with the button on thefront, so I have to push the button on the back of my computer.

Startup All Messed Up

Apr 15, 2005

While I was using the program, DVD Shrink, the screen from the program froze up. So I turned my power on and off to restart my computer. When I restarted it, Windows XP had a blue screen on which I never saw before that said it would go through 3 stages to fix any errors that shutting down my computer may have caused. After Windows automatically restarted, what comes on my screen with all the desktop icons is now messed up-- as programs automatically try to open, I get a box like this:
"ituneshe/per.exe- Bad Image The application or dll c:/windows/system32/att.dll is not a valid windows image"The same would happen for my anti virus program, and AIM.I can still access all my documents, and my internet works fine. But the startup process seems like the beginning of problems to come in the future. Does anyone have any advice how I can remedy this?

Desktops Messed Up

Jul 24, 2005

My sister sent me a link to a website with a 'funny video' and I downloaded it. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Anyway, I right-clicked and opened with VLC, and I have no idea how many different VLCs opened. The screen went black and suddenly my desktop is set to 4 bit color and 640x480 resolution. I can change the resolution, but every time I try and change the color, the screen goes black for a good 30 seconds, and when it comes back, it says "your settings have been changed do you wish to keep the bla bla bla" - but it's still at 4 colors. And while it's at it, it switches the resolution back to 640x480. I'm not sure what you need to know for this... I have WinXP and my video card is an Intel 82810E.

Messed Up Something In My Registry

Jul 31, 2005

I have a big problem, I was trying to change the icons for my file types in explorer specificaly under tools/folder options/file types. Well I changed the icons for the AudioCD,DVD,Drive,File Folder and Folder there was no bad results from the audio and dvd nor the others, it just didnt change my icons to what i wanted it to be so whatever i moved on. Well after i did those things i started to notice that when im using explorer every time i open a folder it would open in a different window so im like maybe i forgot to put a check in the open in the same window in the folder options. So I checked and to my suprise it was checked. I started to search the web for answers and I found a forum and saw that the problem could be in my registry specificaly in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT so I deleted the Folder,Directory and Drive registry folders in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT now I cant access my C drive and my folders fortunatly i can use my browser and other apps i just cant access my drive and documents .

Partition Is Messed Up

Aug 27, 2005

Hey guys, not sure if this is the correct forum for this but here we go.I have 7GB's of HD space that is being unused. It is not labeled or anything it is just there. I got Partition Magic to try and merge it with my C drive (due to that is where it was supposed to be in the first place). Anyway, it is not working, is there a way to do this that I am missing (without having to reformat the drive). During initial install of XP, created to partitions of one 80GB HD (C and D).C has 13GB (Should have 20) and D obviously has the other 60.If it comes down to it, I am prepared to backup HD onto an external then re-install but would really like to try and avoid that.

Extremely Messed Up

Sep 19, 2005

I was trying earlier today to reinstall my Windows XP, but I have the upgrade version so I had to install ME first. All my hard drives were in the NTFS format, but when I just checked, everything is in FAT, and every hard drive, including my backup hard drive is only partitioned to 1.99 GB. I lost all the data on the backup drive, but I was wondering if I would be able to recover it by restoring the partition or something? How would you guys reccommend I recover the data on my backup drive?

Messed Up My Laptop

Feb 18, 2006

Well, I really did it this time... I decided to upgrade my laptop to XP... backed everything important, did the upgrade...everything seemed good. Worked. Then it notified me that the Norton was not working, & advised me to uninstall & reinstall... so I did... only thing is, I went ahead with the restart! I should of looked for junk/trace files, especially since it said it didn't completely remove it. So, when I restarted it, XP keeps coming to a screen that checkes the file system, fat ,32 scans & fixes files... dump files, etc. I can get to the IBM Bios setup, but I don't really know what to do from there. When I use a boot (maybe the one I'm using is no good) it says C: doesn't exist... I did try to start in safe mode, one of the times it appeared... but it didn't change the screen still did that fix-it thing.

Have Really Messed Up My Computer

Jun 20, 2006

Well, I have loved using Mozilla Firefox for some time now. Last weekend I decided to update to the latest version, the 1.5. I had 1.06. I did all the backing up of my profile and then dl'ed. Everything went fine and was working fine.Everything seemed to go fine and I was trying out the features. I still liked Firefox, but thought it would be nice using the IE when I had to now, better than it was before.I noticed that the XL Accelerator that we get through our ISP wouldn't work. It would just freeze up and I'd have to use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to close it. I called tech support and they directed me to reinstall it. I deleted the old and reinstalled. It still messed up, so I figured I'd just not use it.

Install Messed Up

Oct 29, 2007

Recently today I tried to reinstall windows xp home edition on my computer which already had windows xp home edition... dont ask. The installation failed to load a file so I just quit and restarted.

- On start up I would have to choose between Windows xp home edition or Windows xp Setup

- My desktop looks stretched out, scrolling takes forever and looks like it blinks kind of on the screen, and when I move any window it takes a long time and also kind of blinks on the screen while it moves.

I edited my boot.ini file so I fixed the start up problem. The only problem I have now is that my desktop background looks kinda messed up, you can see ripples and when I scroll it takes forever and quickly blinks, and when I move click and drag anything it runs slow and kind of blinks.
