i keep getting this error, Source: Disk Event ID: 11 The driver detected a controller error on DeviceHarddisk0DR0. It seam to start after I put in 8gig's of ram,I ran memtest86 for over 3 hours and everything came out fine with that.I reloaded in windows x64 and that didn't help.Sometimes when windows starts I'll get the blue screen of death, but it go's by so fast I can't read it,also when booting at the loading screen it will just sit there, the light on the pc doesn't blink and rebooting won't work.I have to shut the pc pown and turn off all power to it for a bit then windows will fire up again with on probs.I know it's not over heating, I have a 120mm fan blowing right on it
I reformatted my hard drive due to OS issues, I was running a trial version of Server 2003 along with XP Pro, and I had to get rid of Server 2003 because it was conflicting with XP Pro, and so the only way to do that was by reformatting both hard drives including XP Pro because Server 2003 was acting as the dominant OS, so I backed up all my ****, and reinstalled XP Pro, but now I get this hard drive problem that it says only 51 Gigs are remaining on a 250GB Hard drive, when the only thing installed on that hard drive is XP pro and maybe 15 applications, I tried using every program I can think of to find hidden files that equal a huge size but nothing shows up
Games won't launch/patch...When I log on, it will only show the back ground, no icons load...so I have to log off and back on to get icons.Just a lot of issues and I'm not sure why.I have 2 partitions 40 gig's each, one I save everything on and don't format
I formatted a harddrive and installed XP on it and it was working fine. Then, I took the harddrive and installed it in another box, but it won't work. It gets to the point of searching for the boot record and it just keeps rebooting.
I know what to do but i am bit curious on the formatting bit. I have 2 hard drives, Harddrive "A" has all the window/program files as well as other programs like games and documents. Harddrive B is where i keep all my big files like videos and movies of course i want to format harddrive A but the thing is that harddrive is split in to 3 drives (C:, G:, F. I dont mind formating the c drive since it is all windows/program files but i dont really want to get rid of the G/F drive. I kno you can format the harddrive through the installation process of windows but i was wondering if it is possilbe to just to format the C: during that process or does it only format the whole harddrive
My computer operated windows XP sp2, and have 3 hard drives conntected 1. HD 0 is 160 GB divided into 2 partiotions, one 20 GB containing the system the other 140 Gb containes data directories and film directories2. HD 1 is 120 Gb connected through mobile rack and also contains data directories and film directories3. HD 2 is 200 Gb connected through mobile rack and contains only film directories.Untill thursday night everything was perfect, but when i I opened my computer friday morning i found the following1. HD 0 second partition all film directories completly disappeared and the free space is 40 Gb instead of the original 50 Gb
I got a trojan that attached to my browser. I managed to get rid of it by system restore.A few days later I noticed I only had 127 GB of my 300GB harddrive showing.I did manage to find the missing space though Disk Management. It was showing 170GB as unallocated space. I named it E: and formatted it.It now shows in My Computer as New Volume E: When I open E:I get 2 folders, Recycler and System volume Information. SVI will not open. It gives me an error, ESystem Volume Information is not accessable, access is denied.I am trying to find a way to either resize E: to 1GB or smaller and move that 169 GB back to C: or get rid of E: altogether and put all the missing space back on C:
My (WinXP) system drive is dying and I need to replace it. I'd like to copy everything over from the C drive to a spare. I've tried using Norton's Ghost "clone" option to copy the drive (C->E), but after the copy and the new HD moved to master, Windows hangs at the blue startup screen. I can do a fresh install of XP, but would rather avoid that route. Questions:1. Can anyone explain a better way of doing this, list a web site(s) with instructions or recommend a better utility than Ghost? 2. Any ideas of why Windows is hanging? When it hangs, pressing ESC or Enter produces a beep, the rest of the keys are silent.
about two yrs ago my dad made a massive mistake of making two partitions on my laptop, and giving the C: only 2gigs of the partition, and the D: 28-29gigs. I wanted to format my computer completely anyways, and would like to know how i can format my computer and merge these two partitions. I have the formatting disks, but it never goes to a screen asking me about my partitions, it just formats everything on my C: (my default drive), but keeps everything on my D: intact (games, files, etc.).
Recently upgraded my laptop to windows XP from ME. I first replaced my 5 gig hard drive with a 20 gig hard drive. I added another 128 memory module for a total of 256. For an old machine it really hums now. Three minor problems are bugging me though. 1. I lost the sounds from my modem. The modem works fine except for no sound. I assume that the sound is from the unimodem half-duplex audio device that is located on the Lucent winmodem. I have checked everything. The system says that it is working correctly. I cannot even find the driver for this on microsoft . I thought if I could load a new driver it might work. No such thing. 2. System restore didn't work until I erased all the memory points and reloaded the program. Now if I open siystem restore and click on "settings" or "help" System restore shuts down. I assume it is corrupted and would like to reload it.
I have Dell XPS w 2 hard drives. the master is 80gb(NTFS).."C" drive, and the slave is 120gb(FAT32)...."F" drivethe other day, after a re-start, Windows gave me the not so friendly message "Checking file system on F...the volume is dirty...windows is verifying files and folders.......0 percent complete"now, the problem is that it took 30 HOURS! before it completed its checkup! well, so before i panicked too much, i decided to buy an external drive to back up some stuff from the slave drive. after backing up about 20 gb worth of stuff, i re-started, and it did the same thing! tho this time it took "only" 18 HOURS to do its checking! it did say that "windows replaced bad clusters in files"
My computer is in perpetual reboot mode. It opens windows and as the programs are loading it will suddenly reboot itself. The problem started after I tried to install Koday Easy Share digital frame software.
I got XP PRO sp2 a few weeks ago and microsoft has downloaded their automatic (hot fix) updates about 20-25 times. The last download failed and the the message read that I would have trouble booting XP because of that failure. Well, they were right because now Xp will not boot up-- it just keeps rebooting.
To try to correct this I have tried to use my XP CD to repair it but it asks for a password from an administrator-- that's not me I have tried F5 to get into safe mode, safe mode command prompt, last known good configuration..., and debugging mode and nothing works.
I start up my computer and then after a few minutes later, my computer screen goes black and automatically reboots on itself. After reboots it somehow hangs on me before getting into the login page of xp accounts.
This has been going on for a couple of months now.The PC would just reboot all of a sudden, usually when we pop in a CD in the drive, or log on to another user account. When we try to turn the PC on, it takes about 5-10 reboots before it goes on to the Windows logo (or whatever you call that). I'm worried that it might be a virus. I tried Trend Micro's Online scan and left it for a while only to find that the PC reboot in the middle of it, and now, I can't get the scanner to work anymore (I keep getting this error message.) Also, to be honest, we usually leave the PC on for days on end, so overheating might not be so out of the question. Aside from overheating, I just wanna know what else we have to troubleshoot for regarding this problem? Is it possible that a virus is causing it? That's all, I just need a troubleshooting checklist.
The problem is it will not boot. It only shows the first screen where it tells you the type of processor and bios chips, it gives the cpu type, then I guess it tests the RAM, the cache sram, then system bios shadowed, then video bios shadowed, then it states the hard drive, then cd drive and the last thing on the screen is " mouse initialized" then it just keeps restarting over and over. If I try to go into safe mode, it does give me all the options, however when I choose safe mode, it just goes into that same screen since it is the begining of the boot and it keeps restarting again. He is running windows xp, I tried to do a repair install but I guess I have a different version of win xp and it doesnt give me the option to repair.
I just installed an Audigy 2 ZS and everything works fine until I reboot; at which time my computer goes mute. There is nothing muted in the Volume Control applet, the Device Manager shows no conflicts, and onboard sound has been disabled. I'll post an abbreviated DXDIAG (this is with sound operational, if matters.Uninstalling the card, rebooting and, after letting windows detect the new hardware, reinstalling the driver, will correct the problem. Until I reboot again, at which time the computer is again, mute.
i wonder if anyone can help? our computer keeps rebooting on us for no reason that i can determine. i have done so many anti-virus scans and anti-spyware scans and so on with no result. there doesnt seem to be any specific program that causes the shut down. any suggestions would be welcome.
I had a computer with WINXP and a celeron chip. I changed motherboards to a Tyan with a 1.5 Pentium4. I reused the hard drives and when I start up the computer it gives me the message that Windows was not shut down properly and do I want to go toa last know restart or start in safe mode or start windows normally. No matter what i do, the computer will start to boot and then it reboots itself and the process starts all over again.
last week, my computer froze and my dad unplugged the power cord since he was the one using and now the xp keeps rebooting. it does not matter if i choose, safe mode, last known config, it keeps rebooting. it goes as far as letting you see the xp welcome screen, then for a second, you can see the bsod and it reboots. i have dual boot fedora/xp, both os in one hard drive. i replaced the original mobo about 3 months ago and now fedora does not work either. last night i downloaded pclinuxos live cd and booted off that cd and i can see all my files in the xp partition. so i thought it would be a simple, boot off the xp cd, select install xp, then select repair existing partition, but now after i select "install xp", the c partition shows up empty, as if there were no files in it. this is odd because when i restart, and select to boot windows normally it goes as far as the xp welcome screen, so obviously, xp is there. i also think there is something wrong with the mbr since i cant no longer see the grub dual boot selection screen. any help that you can provide is appreciated. this box is used in a small business and i would like to avoid having to reinstall. my specs, intel p4 2.8 lga 775, 1gb dual ram pc2 4300, intel mobo,
I recently aquired a Toshiba M35X-349, I don't know the history of this laptop. I put a hard drive in it and loaded OS system from recover disc. The problem is that after I instaled OS the computer will boot all the way to showing desktop, then it will reboot after about 60 seconds. It does this over and over. I did manage to reflash bios with version 2.0. I can start it up in safe mode with networking and the thing runs fine, no rebooting. Ive tried re-installing recovery disc and tried just installing windows only and get the same results, I even tried another known good hard drive.
I've copied a windows xp installation to a new sata drive in a new system. Now I get 'error loading os'I've tried fixboot, fixmbr and reinstalling over the existing os, but to no avail.
My computer keeps rebooting in normal mode, but I can log on in "Safe Mode". Whats weird is that I put a disk in my CD, Windows says device is working properly - but won't read the disk. Same thing happens with the floppy. Usually, when my computer booted before this problem occured, it went though normal boot sequence and I could see the light check for CD, and floppy...now it's not doing it. I can read hard drives in "safe mode", but CD, Floppy, and sound will not work?
I have a friend who has Windows 2000.Unfortunately, he has told me that his computer is in a consistent rebooting loop when he tries to start his machine. The only thing he had done before this stopped working was installing necessary updates as provided by Windows Update.
I tried to install XP Pro over ME. I ran the choice to scan first to see if there were conflicting programs. I uninstalled them (I thought). Now every time I boot up the black screen wants me to choose 1. Windows ME or 2. Cancel XP Installation.I now have to chose and ME because everytime I try to install XP it won't finish and gives me a variety of error messages including 'No server pk 2'(which I have downloaded again but it was already there). The worst thing is I lost my HP Photo Smart printer connection and I can't uninstall and reinstall because something is corrupt. It won't read downloaded printer drivers and asks me which program to open them. How does a normal person know this? Should I stop messin' around with this and take it to COMP USA?And I lost my system restore dates and can only restore the day all of this happened. I have a Dell 8100 Dimensions PC
I got an inspiron 1150 I keep in my office... one day, I went to use it, and the screen was froze up, so I hard reset it and it wuldnt boot. Just a flashing cursor on the top left corner, no post, boot screen, nuttin... if I unplugged the ac adapter, it would get to boot screen then freeze. So I bought a new ac adapter. No go. Still wont boot. Locks up. Battery indicator light dont show amber but it does recharge the battery.So... I got it booted, and then when I plug in the ac adapter, boom, instant lock up...Ive tried booting just on ac and just on battery... no go...SO i reinstalled xp... gets to the "installing devices" part, at 35 minutes remaining and locks up every ime...
I am having 2 problems.1.) Fixed 2.) Delay At Boot Up, Black Screen With Blinking Cursor When rebooting my PC, a black screen comes on with a cursor blinking for about 10-30 seconds, and then it proceeds to show the Windows XP splash logo, is there anyway to prevent or stop this black screen with the cursor, as it slows down the boot time.
Just in the past two months I have had a problem with something using all of my memory I thought at first it was Oulook when I close it I am at 1.93GB memory and it hangs there it seems to happen when I have two or three programs up at the same time as well. Rebooting will bring everything back to normal. I have run all of Nortons programs and it seems every thing is ok. Don't know what else to try or look at.
I have an HP Pavillion DV2047cl laptop. It just kept rebooting itself when I tried to start it up so I tried to do a system restore with the disks that came with it. It worked for about a day now it won't boot up. It says INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 14. Setup cannot complete. Error message 12544. I tried doing a system restore again but it stops partway through. Does anyone know what else I can try?
