cannot copy or paste files (text only) and some progs are starting with error msgs.i was thinking that it might have been spyware or an infection of some kind because when i start spyware doctor.
2 links deep into every website I get 'windows needs to shut down' error message. yahoo, xanga, letssingit. Everything. I tried to copy/paste the error message. Couldn't get the whole thing. This is all I could copy.
I can't cut, copy, or paste anything. when I right click it the menu will pop up and the cut, copy and paste options are listed, but when I go to where I need to paste what ever I have cut or copied the menu that pops up only has two options.......[1] select all ......and [2] properties. What can I do to remedy this problem... I did here recently reformat the HHD and re-install windows XP (with in the last two weeks) thanks for any help given on this topic.
I have installed/reinstalled MS Paint several times and restarted my computer. It is there but I cannot paste or copy. I had registry mechanic on my computer and since then it has not worked.
I am running XP Pro with IE8, there is a problem when I attempt to copy and paste, I can put the pointer on where I want to start highlighting and it will not follow the movement of the mouse when attempting to highlight. You can put the pointer on a sentence and hold the mouse while sliding and it will not highlight, or it may start highlighting somewhere in the middle or maybe not at all. I have tried from bottom up and top down, it makes no difference, this is driving me crazy because I use the copy and paste feature quite often. I've never had this happen before, something appears to be conflicting; but I've been running the same programs for a long period of time and never seen this before.
Re: disabled 'cut, copy, paste et al' dropdown that might be corrected via the >start>run>regedit(?) routine ;-) Have XP3 and IE8, updated as recently as this morning ;-) And, I definitely lack the necessary skills and familiarity to cope with this site ;-)) If someone has the time and talent to assist in this search I'd be most appreciative !! ;-)) So farewell for now, and I do hope I can manage to return;-))
I have Windows xp on my laptop. Till yesterday the cut, paste and copy functions were working fine. But today they stopped working I dont know how to solve this problem. I went through many forums and saw many people have faced same problem but could not find solution which will solve my problem.
i cant copy/cut and paste files higher than a certain number. I can cut and paste other files, folders and in my browser, but say i want to cut 30 notepad files from one folder to another it wont work, i have to vut the files 3 at a time, why is this happening?
I am unable to copy and paste files on my laptop that has had XP SP2 re-installed. Whewn I try to paste the option is inactive. My laptop is a Toshiba Tecra.
When I highlight text and click Copy, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.I use Yankee Clipper which provides more versatility to the clipbboard. Sometimes when I have copied something the Paste key is greyed out but the text is saved in YC. Other times it is not saved either place. When I delete cookies and temporaries, that sometimes causes the clipboard and sometimes not, and sometimes it will work only once or twice and then quit again.
My problem probably has a simple answer but it is driving me crazy.I cannot use my copy /paste option. When I highlight something it colours up(not sure of the right phrase) ok, I then right click for options left click copy, which is enabled but when I go to paste to another doc right clicking shows all the options disabled ie faint.
If anyone could direct me to the answer or maybe recognized the problem and tell me what is going on:)When I copy from a website(just some text from a bible online)and try to paste it in another website "message board" I get the text but also, something that I think is hypertext is also showing up which is not showing in the original text(49")Looks like the previous in parenthisis) This has not happened to me before when copying and pasting.
my comp is very screwy lately. if i right click a folder and copy it, or just right click it, its fine. but if i try to paste or right click once again the whole explorer will crash leaving no icons on my desktop. then it will reload everything back up.
I really messed up my computer. I think I deleted a necessary Service. I searched high & low at Microsoft Support & all over the internet, but everthing I do to try to fix the problem only brings me to another error message or another function that does not work properly. I don't think I have a virus or any other malicious software because I scanned my computer a day or 2 before this happened & it was clean.
My taskbar/start menu has disappeared, system restore won't work, I am unable to make any chages to my system services, safe mode is working just as bad as regular startup, many programs do not work properly including internet explorer and more. I am almost surprised I am able to post this. I have pretty much given up on trying to restore my necessary service(s) or restore my computer to my last restore point. I decided to burn some files/folders to my disk drive and then re-format my computer. But I have run into another problem. I am unale to cut, copy, paste, drag, drop, move or send files/folders to another location on my computer, including my CD-R drive. I am able to select cut, copy, sent to, etc, but nothing happens after I do.
I know some images you can't copy and paste, but I use to go to free clip art sites and would be able to copy and paste into Word for kids school projects. Now I can't and I have not been able to for a while now. I think it is an Internet Explorer problem, but I could be wrong. I just recently installed Service Pack 2 for Internet Explorer and still does not work. I am able to copy and paste text, but not images.
This is a curiosity question more than anything At my office, an outside tech guy told us to always copy-and-paste when moving files on our NAS drives and never to cut-and-paste or drag-and-drop. I'm wondering: why?Is there a file integrity issue when using cut-and-paste or drag-and-drop that doesn't exist when you copy-and-paste? Is there a serious issue that can develop if you cut or drag?
I have been having the following problem off and on for some time:
When I try to copy/paste files and folders in windows XP explorer (or in the desktop or a program's dialog box), windows wants to re-install one of the programs I have already installed on my computer or that I installed once upon a time.
Currently this is happening with Roxio Easy media Creator 7, but in the past it has happened with many other programs, such as MS Office, Roxio and some other shareware programs.
When I hold down my left mouse button and drag across a word or words to copy and paste, the text "sporadically" highlights. This happens in Notepad, in a webbrowser (Firefox), bascially anywhere there is text you may want to copy.xFor emaple, if I want to copy the sentence above and I start at the beginning of the sentence, here's what happens:1) Sometimes it will "highlight" everything as I drag but then goes away once I let go of the left button2) Sometimes it skips letters or words. Eventhough I start at the "W" in When, it misses a few letters or words entirely.
I got a hard drive out of a computer running windows XP home (this computer was not booting in to windows), so I put the hard drive in a caddy and plugged it via USB in to another system so I can get photos, etc, off the hard drive before doing a reinstall of windows. I can look at the files on the HDD I have in the caddy but I do no have permission to open or copy/paste these photos or any other files under the user account I was using as I had a password on this account
I cannot move any of the desktop icons.I cannot drag and drop any files, but copy and paste works.I cannot mouse click in between different programs many times and often have to use Alt-Tab to get around windows.Since this has shown up, I reformatted and installed Windows at least 10 times. I've run numerous virus and spyware programs and found the system to be clean.
The cut and paste control keys do not work on my computer [ Control-X cut & Control-V paste]. There is no error message - they just don't work. For example, if I open a document with Notepad and try to move all or part of it into an internet email then nothing happens. No error messages, just nothing. Same with my word processor I'm using OpenOffice Writer for word processing, free version, and got nothing from them on this question.
I'm trying to install UPnP on my system but I get this error message. The dll file IS there. I have tried downloading the file from the internet and Browsing to it on the desktop but it always gives this error message.
I've been troubled by viruses and trojans on an older computer (Pentium4) and decided to reinstall XP from the disc to see if I can "start over". I have another primary computer, so it doesn't hurt me to lose all the files etc. I'd rather start with a clean slate. Anyway, the XP install from the disc with SP1 went fine. Then I installed SP2 per the request of the windows update monitor. The install proceeded fine until a copy error occurred.Copy Erro Error occurred while copying file sprb0414.dll.Cannot copy file to directory.
I have Adobe Acrobat 5.0 installed on Windows XP. Everything has been fine for years until a few days ago. When I try to right click on a document file on my desktop to copy it, for example, I receive an error message which says: "Your system clock appears to have been set back, possibly in an attempt to defeat the security system on this program. Please correct your system clock before trying to run this program again. If your clock is correct, try contacting the author of this program for instructions on correcting this error (report code 0, 2700,2581. My system clock is correct.
Sometimes when I cut/copy folders from one location to another the process will stop and give an error message cannot move file with a red x. Clicking on ok cancells the whole cut/copy operation, which can leave you wondering what has or has not been moved and requires trawling through source and target location. Gets a bit annoying when it happens fairly often.
