Hardware Drivers :: Mouse Double Click Does Not Work In Desktop

Oct 2, 2013

I tried to adjust the double click speed but it has no effect.

Any icon on desktop doesn't open until the third click. Once i am in my computer double clicking works fine, the issue only occurs on desktop.

I suspect it is related to some program but i don't know which. Other domain users on the computer do not suffer from this problem.

I tried disabling lots of things from startup like babylon, ashampoo hdd control, bwmeter, desktop 8gadgets but it didn't work.

I don't know when this problem started to occur.

Earlier i installed mcos lion transformation pack and uninstalled it. It had caused notifications not to come on office 2013.

Dell Inspiron Hover-Click And Left-Click Gets Stuck?

Jan 4, 2014

I have a new Dell Inspiron 15r as of this Christmas, running Windows 8. I ran the upgrade to 8.1 but I still have a problem with my cursor wanting to "hover click" on links or browser tabs, as well as being stuck in the down position, when I'm not even pressing on the touchpad left button. I end up selecting an entire region of stuff while moving the cursor across the screen.

I can't figure out what to change or configure in Control Panel, or is it in the Dell Touchpad configuration utility?

In Control Panel/Ease of Access Center/Make Your Mouse Easier To Use I have unchecked "Activate a Window by hovering over it with a mouse." Still happens.

Since 02.01.2013 my Windows 8 is rebooting without a warning, and this is happening every morning when I come to work, I've noticed that Windows will restart when I double click a song in Winamp, once it happened when I tried to open a e-mail in Outlook, bust mostly it happens with Winamp.

I have all Windows updates installed, installed latest Winamp version still when I double click or drag&drop a file in Winamp, Windows will restart.

There is no dump file, the system only restarts without BSOD.

Went to Task Manager and noticed 8 instances of Acrobat Reader and shut them down all one by one. The files started opening again. After a while again I have to go back to the task manager and close reader which is cumbersome and irritating.

Tablets :: Dell Inspiron 15z Ultrabook - Two Finger Tap Activates Both Right And Left Click?

Jan 28, 2014

I have a Dell Inspiron 15z Ultrabook which has a Synaptics Touchpad, and after Windows 8.1 Upgrade, I lost the two finger tap right click feature, which worked fine previously. There is no option for it in the Dell Touchpad Settings, and after a Registry edit (Synaptics Clickpad - Right Click not working after windows 8... - HP Support Forum - 3053281) and Synaptics driver update, I got the feature back, except this time, when I tap with two fingers, it clicks both left and right, instead of only right (all other touchpad gestures work perfectly). I also tried the Two Fingers Scroll app, but did not like it.

Hardware Drivers :: Mouse Wheel Button Not Working For Left Hand Use?

Aug 28, 2014

I'm having a problem with getting the mouse wheel button to work correctly in 8.1

I've switched to left handed use to alleviate shoulder pain.

Before this I had the mouse and keyboard center installed. I use a cheap USB keyboard and a microsoft USB optical wheel mouse. Configured for the right hand, everything works correctly. The right button is the normal select, the right is context and I configured the wheel button to double click.

When I switch to left hand I lose the wheel button double click. The select / context buttons are properly working, but when I click the wheel it appears to be the same as a context button click. I thought maybe the settings got messed up when I switched the buttons so I tried setting the wheel button to another function (open charms in this case). That works. Switched the wheel button back to double click and it goes back to open context menu.

I uninstalled and re-installed the mouse and keyboard center. That made no difference. Seems like a bug here.

On, this is on a new (mid-april) HP laptop so there is a touchpad that I almost never use because I generally have the mouse, keyboard, and external monitor attached with the lid closed.

Mouse Click To Invoke Metro UI?

Sep 4, 2012

Mouse click to invoke Metro UI If you have a mouse with programmable buttons: The Windows Key is 'ctrl-esc' I have a Logitech mouse with programmable buttons. In the Logitech button settings you can program any button to go to the Metro UI:

1.) Go to your mouse settings;
2.) Choose a button;
3.) Select 'Keystroke Assignment;
4.) in the resulting 'Specify Keystroke' - Keystroke window:
5.) Simultaneously press Ctrl and Esc.
6.) Note: In the Logitech example, you cannot use your keyboard key-by-key to enter ctrl+esc. You must simultaneously press the control and escape key in the above window. [Hold down ctrl and esc] Worked for me.

Explanation:Windows 8 dumped me into the old W7 desktop when I exited an application -- even if I started the application in Metro UI. Then I had to go back to keyboard to press Windows key. Now I have a mouse button to get me back to Metro UI. Editorial comment - DWJ: I think Windows 8 should default to the Metro UI upon exit from any application. After many months of objecting to Windows 8, I now like it -- but I do not like the extra key press on the Windows Key [on the keyboard] to get me back to Metro UI -- where I started. If Microsoft wants me to use the Metro UI, then Microsoft should dump me into the Metro UI whenever I exit any app.

Double Screen - Windows Remain In Permanent Minimized State?

Jul 3, 2013

I purchased an HP desktop with windows 8 towards the end of 2012, and have been running into a recurring problem that has worsened recently. Originally, something would occasionally occur after my computer went to sleep. When I woke it up, there would be no desktop icons and although I could launch programs, their windows would remain in a permanent minimized state. A simple restart would fix it temporarily, but as of late a new issue has complicated things. Now, certain programs (web browsers and the occasional game) will be permanently minimized on the regular desktop screen, and will only be viewable on the 2nd screen. As you can Imagine, this makes performing tasks that require multiple programs very difficult, as there is no surefire way to switch from the regular desktop screen to the second one. I attempted to fix the issue by changing the sleep settings and performing a repair install, but both of these had no effect.

Apps / Software :: Windows 8 Messenger App And Facebook - Double Posts

Apr 13, 2013

These double posts aren't seen on Facebook's site, by the way. It's only me that sees it and is really annoying.

I've tried uninstalling, re-installing, signing out of my facebook on both People app and Messenger app then signing back in. I don't know what is causing it.

Audio :: Volume Bar At Top Left Corner

Jun 14, 2014

So instead of explaining what I'm looking at right now I'll post a picture here:

So as you can see that bar there is putting my volume automatically up to 100% every single time I touch it. Also, recently this has made the computer unable to drag the top or side or have any Windows 8 features available this includes both Windows buttons on my keyboard. I have tried cleaning my keyboard as that seemed to work last time on fixing this problem for maybe a month, however it worked for only an hour this time. It also seems note worthy that I cannot capitalize these letters at all: z x c v m , . and then I can't capitalize certain letters with certain shift bars so I can capitalize s with my left shift but not my right this happens with many other letters too but the ones I listed above cannot be capitalized at all.

Cursor Moves Off The Page - Left Side Only

Aug 21, 2013

Can't move the cursor off the active screen to the top, right or bottom. But when I move the cursor to the left side, it goes forever.

I often do a split screen e.g. to look at two panels concurrently, you can go to the option between minimize & maximize (does this mode have a name???), move the panel to the right and you get a half-screen on the right. Do the same with another screen, move it to the left, and you again get a half-screen. Dunno what this feature is called, but it exists in Win7 & Windows 8, great for doing copy-and-paste from one to another.

Problem is, when I drag to the left, it goes off into space.

Windows 8 Freezes Totally When Left Idle?

Nov 29, 2013

Basically about 1 month ago a good friend of mine purchased a brand new acer desktop computer, I haven't got the exact model to hand as he lives 200 kilometers from me and he's not tech savvy at all, however, from what I remember of it, it's windows 8 x64, 4gb ram and i3 processor, so not bad at all.

When he got it I set it up for him as in just put in the regional setting etc.. and ran through the initial set up and all went well. I installed all his programs and all was good.

So about a month on he rang me and said his computer is just freezing randomly always when it's left idle for 10 minutes or so and this happens all day every day.

..... Ran hitman pro which said all was clean.
.....Ran chkdsk /f which was fine
.....Went into power options and set both screen and sleep to never
....Ran sfc /scannow which said it found some corrupt file but could not fix all (ran this from command prompt from inside windows as admin)
...Tried a system restore to the 14th of this month but said it couldn't do it as it may be corrupt but it let do a restore to a later date but still the same issue.

This is only a new pc, so if I can't sort the problem rather than doing a fresh install and checking all the hardware internally I'm wondering if he should bring it back to the shop as it's only a month old, or would I be better of doing the fresh install ?

Playing Videos Shifts Screen To Left

Aug 28, 2013

When I play videos on youtube, WMP, mplayer or adobe air/flash, video app or whatever, the entire display/screen moves to the left and leaves a black rectangle on the right side of the plasma TV (about one sixth the width of the display). It doesn't happen as soon as I launch the video, but happens when I exit the fullscreen or terminate the app/window and stays that way. The only way to reset it is to log off and log back in or restart the computer.

Mind you, it is not the apps/windows shifting to the left but the entire display, as if some one used the tv settings to move the display area to the left and so left part of the desktop and windows are cut off.

This is getting pretty annoying as keep switching to apps that display text such as VS, Notepad, browser etc in between while playing movies/videos. I can't read what is on the left side of the app window as it is not visible, I need to either resize the window or log out and log back in.

I am using Windows 8 x64 with latest updates and drivers (display and others).

How To Install Desktop Icon On LEFT Side Of Taskbar

Dec 23, 2013

Windows 8.1

I have installed Classic Shell in an attempt to eradicate as much of Windows 8 as possible. I managed to get the word "Desktop" onto the right side of the quick launch taskbar. I have to click on a tiny arrow next to that word. That brings up a desktop menu but doesn't go to the desktop itself.

How can I get a desktop icon (not the word "Desktop") on the left side of the taskbar next to the start button? In Windows 7 the icon was on the right side but I somehow managed to move it to the left side.

I know about Win D and Win M. Those are okay but I'd rather have an icon to click on to eliminate extra keystrokes.
