New desktop computer. She will use it only to connect to her office using Remote Desktop Connection. All the software she will be using is on that server computer. Does the processor power make much of a difference, or is it using the processor on the server computer for most of the heavy lifting? I am looking at Lenovo desktops, wondering if the Intel I3 processor (6GB RAM) is good enough, or if an I5 (8GB RAM) will give better performance.

my Dell Vostro was working without any issues untill last night where I got following Error-Message while switching it on:
Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
The operating system couldnt be loaded because the system registry file is missing or contains errors.
File: windowssystem32configsystem
Error Code: 0xc0000001
So I went to this forum and found a thread where someone had a similar problem: [URL] .....
I cant make it to the "advanced repair options".
"Shift" + "F8" after System logo also doesnt work for me, trying to crash my system didnt make any success either.
Afterwards I ran the Diagnostics, where I got the following Error-Message:
**Hard Drive 0 - DST Short Test**
Test Results: Fail
Error Code 2000-0142
Validation 66405
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N WD-WXJ1A81M0579, Short self test unsuccessful.

Error: We couldn't complete the updates, Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer.
After initial setup, I installed Windows Firewall, Avast, and Chrome. That's it so far.
I ran updates I think the first one went through. The next one didn't. And I got that error. And I tried again a few times. I tried disabling all the security software. Still the same error.

I am running windows 8 pro, I have the "alow remote access" checked as I should and I have read plenty of threads on how to do it. Now, when I am at work, I want to remote into my home desktop. My work pc is win 7 pro. When I enter my home ip it gives the "cannot connect" either the computer is this or that etc.
I followed the guide but to no avail. AS long as my home pc is set to accept remote connections, why am I having this issue.?

I am trying to write a DVD over RDP but my writer is not recognised. After searching the internet, I found out that Windows disallows this as a security precaution. I did find a fix for Windows 7, which is to go into GPedit.msc and change the setting for 'All Removable Storage: Allow direct access in remote sessions' to enabled. However, this setting is not there in Windows 8. Has it been removed for Windows 8 and if so is there another fix.

I have tried to find older topics and tutorials on this without success. This is new to me so hopefully there's something very simple to address the issue.
I have 3 computers. 1 x Win 8 Pro and 2 x Win 8 Standard.
I know only the Win 8 Pro machine can be a Remote Desktop host.
In System Properties I have checked the box to "allow Remote Assistance to this computer" (I don't know detail, but I am aware this is something different to Remote Desktop).
Also in System Properties, I have selected to "Allow remote connections to this computer". I have also tried to check the sub-section of that "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (recommended)".
All computers are set up at home, connected to a regular home router.
When I try to connect to the host machine I get an error (I don't have details of that right now, but its some generic "no connection" error).

I cannot get my 8.1 PRO system to establish a Remote Desktop connection on either the Internet or my home LAN. Router has port 3389 set for port forwarding, aVast Firewall allows port 3389 in and out. Have even tried with aVast turned off but can't get it to work. Have run a number of Port Checkers and all show 3389 as locked or unavailable, but unfortunately do not detect whether it is an issue with the router firewall or aVast firewall. However, all is not lost; have discovered a free application named Team Viewer which does the job very nicely and is a lot easier to set up.

So I recently got my brand new Alienware X51 with Win8 pre-installed. Everything went well and I have had no issues until our apartment got a black-out and my PC decided to die. When the power was back on, I tried turning it on, but instead got an error message. Here as follows:
Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a requested file is missing or contains content errors.
File:windowssystem32windload.efi
Error code: 0xc0000001
Also I need to mention that I did NOT get any Recovery CD/DVD with the pc itself. What should I do??

I am using the following code in a .bat file to end remote desktop connection upon running the file:
Code:
@%windir%System32 scon.exe 0 /dest:console@%windir%System32 scon.exe 1 /dest:console @%windir%System32 scon.exe 2 /dest:console @%windir%System32 scon.exe 2 /dest:console @%windir%System32 scon.exe 3 /dest:console @%windir%System32 scon.exe 4 /dest:console @%windir%System32 scon.exe 5 /dest:console
However when I run this, the server computer comes up with an error saying that remote desktop connection was interrupted. How can I cut the session off without getting the error message?

My old desktop (upstairs) and my laptop are both running Windows 7. I can very easily use remote desktop connection from my laptop to the upstairs computer. My new desktop (downstairs) runs Windows 8.1. I use a local login, not the Microsoft login. My user name and password are the same on all three computers, and all three are on the same home network.
When I launch remote desktop connection from the Windows 8 machine, and enter the name of the Windows 7 machine, along with my User name and password (same on all three computers), the Windows 7 screen (from the upstairs machine) appears along with "The user name or password is incorrect".

I would like for my computer to sign in automatically with my Microsoft account, however, when I enabled Remote Desktop Connection (for I would also like to be accessed remotely), the automatically sign-in function doesn't work, because sign-in screen is now set by default to log in with local account rather than Microsoft one. However, I do not possess one, and if I tried to create on and make it sign in automatically, the screen said wrong username or password. Which I don't understand at all.

Network on my Lenovo Yoga running Windows 8.1 works fine over both wireless and Ethernet (USB dongle).
I have an iMac initiating a Remote Desktop connection to the Yoga via a direct Ethernet cable between the devices. Everything works fine on the Windows 8.1 device except the WiFi can no longer connect to any access points and thus the Yoga has no Internet/network access--it just fails immediately when I select an access point for connection.
I do see an Event ID 8000 from NETwNe64 around the time of this failure; not sure if it's the same cause.
If I log back into the Yoga (and thus break the Remote Desktop Ethernet connection and take over that session), wireless works perfectly again. Thus it is clear that WiFi is only down when the device is accessed via RDP over Ethernet.

I have 2 systems, 1 running Win7 (HP i5, quad-core, 8GB 2.5Ghz) and the other is running Win 8 (Acer AX series, AMD processor, quad-core, 8GB, 2.2Ghz) acting as my HTPC. How can I remotely access my Win 8 system (in living room) through my Win 7 PC in my computer room?
I've also read somewhere that using WOL feature on Win 8 is difficult. Is that true? How can I get through this issue?

Trying to get Remote Desktop access functioning on my new win 8 pro PC. I have closed firewalls/virus protection etc, I have enabled remote access anywhere and everywhere. I assume port 3389 is okay as I can remote connect with my win7/xp/win 8 pro laptop to many other PC's over the internet. I can connect to the said PC over the local lan using the name convention but not over internet address 110.143.xxx.x
Never thought it would be this hard after so easily using xp and win 7. otherwise win 8 pro is out the door!

When I start a remote desktop connection it all works fine. After a random period of time the desktop icons, taskbar icons disappear, can not access metro, shortcuts do not work etc.. The whole screen starts flickering, desktop image as well.
A restart and reconnect fixes the problem for a while then it happens again and again.
I tried the connection from a macbook, another win 8 laptop, and iphone, all with the same result.
Video link of the flickering.

I am currently using Windows 8 Professional (x64) as an administrator. My issue is that often certain programs or software do not exit properly and show up on Task manager as background processes. The issue is that I cannot end these processes because "Access is Denied" and must therefore restart my computer in order to run these programs. A simple example is Skype. When I quit Skype, it will show up as a background process on Task manager and I cannot end the process. If I try to sign into my Skype account again, it says that I am already logged in from this computer. Battlefield 4 is another example. I've never had this issue with Skype or BF4 previously, nor do I remember installing something significant that may have made changes to my PC.

I have been trying to remote into my Windows 8.1 desktop from outside my home network using the RDC program for Apple.
The basic setup from within the home network works fine. I turned on the port forwarding and DNS stuff on my ASUS router and that worked fine from within my homework network. When I go outside my home network, it get to the certificate message and then throws a tsl1_alert_internal_error and dies.

I've been having a problem since I updated to Windows 8.1My internet wi-fi connection is unusually low and is not working after only minutes of browsing the internet. The problem is always fixed after I run troubleshoot problems and is saying that the default Gateway is unavailable. My netword card might be the source of the problem even tough I updated the drivers. I'm not sure which one I have because drivers from Ralink and Qualcomm seem to be working both.

Recently my Samsung laptop has been getting kicked of my house's WiFi. The computer will power up normally and connect to the WiFi, but as soon as I try to use the WiFi to access the internet the connection fails.Typically this only occurs when other devices are connected to the same WiFi. As soon as the other decieves are taken of the WiFi the computer is able to access the internet again. I have tried updating all my drivers and still nothing.

I've tried manually putting IP/DNS but nope no luck. I've uninstalled drivers and reinstalled drivers, restarted router tried various cmd commands but I really just dont know what to do anymore.

Recently Task Manager decides to crash on open.
After that these 2 entries are created in the Event Viewer:
Event ID: 1000, Source: Application Error
Code:
Faulting application name: taskmgr.exe, version: 6.2.9200.16384, time stamp: 0x50107c26
Faulting module name: taskmgr.exe, version: 6.2.9200.16384, time stamp: 0x50107c26
Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x0000000000039924
[Code] .....
I suppose the second entry is sent by Error Reporting to MS? What is causing the crash?

Went to turn on my computer today and got a screen with the Dell Logo and a message "Boot manager has recovered from a critical error." It went on to say there were missing or corrupt files that were restored from the default configuration. I did a Google search and found absolutely nothing about this error. This laptop is only 2 months old. I couldn't find anything in the event viewer either.

My Windows 8 laptop is having some WiFi connection issues.
Basically what happens is that every 5-20 minutes I cannot access the internet on browsers and the wifi connection is listed as "Limited".
The laptop: ASUS Vivobook S200E
The WiFi: Sky wireless router (no idea about model, it's almost two years old) But what I will say is that my Windows 7 laptop never skips a beat on this network, nor does my wife's Mac, nor do our 2 Android tablets, the iPad, the iPhone, the Android phone, and various devices that our friends connect when they come round. Literally no other device has any problems on this network, so I know (by the process of elimination) the Windows 8 laptop is the one with the problem.
In order to fix the issue I have to disconnect from the network, wait about 30 sec and reconnect again.
