I've already tried a couple of different ways and keep getting the same error message......Win8 can't edit the master boot record, which I believe it can't because it can't find it due to the fact its on a RAID0 volume.
I'm not about to pop the RAID0 volume and have nothing but Win8 when not everything will work with it yet.
I was trying to record a macro in Office 2010 on my machine with Windows 8.1. I had my PERSONAL.XLSB file open at the time. I closed that file and when I when to record the macro to it the file was no longer listed. I tried to create a new file but I got an error message "Can not find the Start folder" and that was that. Where is the heck is the start folder. I believe it does not exist and 8.1 has issues with Office 2010. I had not luck with an An Access, so I though I'd try here.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWe bought a new computer for my granddaughter. Since non had Windows 7 on it, (which I know how to use). We had to buy one with Windows 8. Learning to find out how to remove All the ads and non needed programs has been an ongoing challenge. Right now she only wants to go to very few sites. but Ads along with false java download keep poping up on her browser even thou I tryed hunting down anything that might call them up
She has Mccaffee virus scan and regitpro (I think its called that , she is using pc at thistime so I cant check.)
Is there a way to block a url? These popups do not show up on my computer when I go to the same page as she is on. ITs like an online ad program it adds more ads to websites you visit that are not on the actual website.
Apparently it started a few weeks ago and only on certain websites, certain letters look distorted and I can't figure out why it happens or how to fix it- at first I thought it had to do with the AMD 14.x drivers but it still happens with an Nvidia card in it and I'm using a BenQ GL2450HM and there doesn't seem to be any issues found about it. I also disabled hardware acceleration in the browsers and it doesn't seem to be any different and also tried HDMI and DVI.
I currently use 125% text scale in Windows, tried it at 100% and still occurs but at certain zoom it gets worse.
This is most noticeable on Battlelog, notice purple-green blending around the words "awful smell" and orange around the letter I.
So upgraded to 8.1 from 8.0 in the hope it was more user friendly but no evidence so far but that's not my issue...now when I'm in Internet Explorer if I click on a link or even a webpage...it takes me to a blank screen that tells me to 'check the link'....if I refresh nothing happens but if I go back to the original link or web icon and try again it loads the page (sometimes takes a couple of goes to do it)...also it keeps asking me to 'login' to frequently used things like facebook and my Hotmail account which it never did in the past....when using 8.0 it was all good but nothing but trouble in 8.1.

I just got a new computer with Windows 8, I use Firefox. If I open these websites with IE, the background images are there. So what did I do to my Firefox settings?
I have spent over 4 hours searching through the control panel, tools, Firefox itself, and I can't find a solution.
How do I block access to certain websites in all web browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla, & Google Chrome)?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy internet has been playing up recently, Some websites don't load or some load without all content, such as a cached version of the site.
So I've researched around and I've tried the following to resolve it:
Flushed DNS
Cleared browser history
Tried different browsers
Tried to use OpenDNS and the google one
Connecting via cable to the router
System File checker
Disabled firewall and antivirus
But still hasn't solved the problem.
Just switched to my main monitor and am having major problems with websites. Seem every website I go to I have to manually zoom to make the text bigger so I can read. Isn't there a setting to make all the websites the same? Oh, I'm using Firefox if that makes a difference.

Whenever I go to a web site that my old Windows 7 desktop would play with Windows Media player the new laptop doesn't play the audio at all. It works fine with flash, but just not the media player. Do I just not have something enabled or have they changed something in the new OS?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhatever website I open (Yahoo, Dogpile, Mail.com, and yes even Techguy.org), my Windows 8.1 is reporting dozens of malicious websites being accessed in the range of 74.120.16.xx,xx,xx,xx, etc. Tracing one of these addresses reports that it is a Honey Pot. How can I stop Techguy.org and others from sending me these malicious intrusions, or how can I stop Windows 8.1 from filling the screen with these malicious website reports. (And Techguy.org continues to send these malicious intrusions throughout my session, even as I write this complaint.) I have set security from Medium-high to Medium which seems to be the lowest setting. I am using the Chrome browser. I stopped using the built-in Explorer 11 because I can no longer get my on-line college course assignments or my Walgreens photos, but the malicious reports keep coming. I don't want to abandon Windows 8.1.

Recently my computer ran into a problem, couple of days ago, I could play or view websites just fine, just that day when I came back from outside I launched my game (The secret world) and the launcher got stuck at Downloading patch information.. (which was actually trying to connect to the server for patching) It was just stuck at there, so, I tried opening the game's website for support, but surprise, I can't either..
this is the error Google Chrome shows me ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT. So I can't play nor see the website BUT, when I use a proxy in chrome, I can see the website just fine, and no, im not banned from the game..
This is what I've tried so far..
Flushing DNS
Cleaning dns cache
Resetting router / modem settings to factory
Rebooting several times
And I even restored my whole PC to fabric state (Yup, I formatted and all)
My Windows Explorer browser has been losing all my website log ins and passwords. I need to re-enter the information.
I always click the tab for saving the log in for every time I use it.
I cannot change cameras I want to use on some websites (Skype and yahoo ok). When I go to try to select an external cam on some websites which merely show "About Adobe Flash Player" in the "camera area", I can't seem to pull up the icon which allows me to select the external camera. The internal camera works just fine on those sites, but if I disabled the internal camera "hoping the computer" would recognize the external camera as the "new default" camera, I then have no camera whatsoever on those sites.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I start my computer (which is running win 8), yahoo messenger won't sign in, and certain websites won't load for me for about 10-15 minutes. So it's just for certain websites, and the yahoo messenger client. Skype and 90% of the websites load with no problems whatsoever. And it only happens after i turn on my machine, or after a restart.
The problem persists no matter what browsers i use. When i ping those websites, I get replies from them, everything looks just fine, but they just won't load. After 10-15 minutes, they just fire up, all at once and i get no problems whatsoever. It's not a problem with the internet connection, as I got another windows running machine, an iPad, and my gf's Mac, and none of them are experiencing this issue. Plus, it also happens when i'm using any other network from a different location.
I have flushed my dns, and have run antivirus solutions like dr. web, combofix and malwarebyes anti-malware, and still no joy. My windows updates are up to date.. Do you need any other info for a diagnostic?
I have re installed the Window8 Pro completely, it is still not stop BSOD. It happened frequently everytime when i played Guild Wars 2. I did not overclock at all, even if i want to. It happens 80% of the time when I use Google Chrome, and less than 5% of the time when I use IE. I am running Windows 8, and I have tried everything. I have cleared the history, cache, removed the Webroot anti-Virus from Google because that's about when it started happening when I included Webroot on Chrome. I even removed Chrome from my hard drive and re-installed it twice! and it works fine for a day or two and it starts doing it again. Every time I go to a site I have to hit the reload or refresh button, sometimes I have to do 2 or 3 times, and it's gotten really old. I went to "Tools" then "Encoding" and Auto-Detect is checked and then selected is (ISO-8859-1).
