Dec 8, 2009I am an absolute dumb wit concerning computers and stuff. I just bought myself an Acer 5332 which runs Vista. Should I upgrade to Windows 7? It seems all the rage at the moment.

View 3 RepliesMy acer says that there may have been a harware or software removed...When I turn it on it goes to Acer screen, then to the page that says Lauche start up repair, or start normally....either on you hit, it does the same thing, it goes back to that screen, or stays on a black screen This started when it was knocked off an end table.

I have an Acer 5315 and I want to upgrade from the Vista Home to Win 7 using an upgrade verison of Win7. SHould I have any problems or will Win7 install basic drivers for everything?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi just upgraded and have a few issues. altogether windows 7 is fine but in devices and printers ive got CRD-PC with an exclamation Mark under devices and A310 under unspecified. i have installed all the drivers from the acer website. then i also have some usage related issue, i know probably the wrong forum but i dont know where to put them plus dont wanna make a 2nd thread.
whenever i restart, i have to reselect VLC as default program to open avi's, it defaults to winamp. happens with all media files, but strangely not with nfo's (havnt tried any other files yet that i set to non default manually).
also, my toolbars disappear after evry restart. which is annoying cause i always move it so i have an XP style quickstart panel.
my system:
acer aspire 5920G
T7700 (2.4ghz 2mb L2 Cache 800Mhz FSB)
2GB DDR2 Ram
Geforce 8600M GT
WIndows 7 ultimate x64
I own an Acer Aspire 7720g and according to acer my laptop is not eligible for an upgrade to windows 7: Windows® 7 Upgrade Offer . So, can i upgrade to windows 7? Has anybody tried it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer X1300 and I have been trying to install 7 using the Acer Upgrade Wizard sent to me in the "upgrade kit" I received. My current OS is Vista Home Premium 64.
I can only get as far as the screen that asks for my model and it will only allow me to select from the notebook list and I can not go to the desktop list, so I can go no further with the install.
I contacted Acer support and was told to do a clean install. I have been using this computer for a couple of months now and it has all of my apps and files on it (new and the ones I transferred from my old XP machine). Also it is working great.
I think that a clean install is a pretty drastic step for what appears to me to be a failure in the Acer software (Acer Upgrade Wizard).
Would it be possible to install directly from the windows 7 disc without running the upgrade wizard?
This is my noob experience of the £699 4 months ago 17.3" multi spec't acer aspire model 7535g
ATI mobilty 4570 radeon twin graphcs job
£12.78 buys two discs to get me from vista 32 home premium to windows 7 home premium 32bit
1 upgrade disc and 1 windows 7 media disc
I decide to go with a clean install so i changed boot sequence in bios to cd first, then booted from the windows 7 media disc.
option 2 custom install i managed to delete partitions which made my restore discs effectivley scrap.
realizing there was no way back, i had to instal windows 7
all went silky smooth untill the device radeon 4000 series had code 10 cannot start
i let windows 7 update this device - rebooted...the screen never came back...the machine was ON,signal up and everything but no raster, just a mouse curser.
hmm... rebooted in safe mode, rolled back driver....screen ok but still the graphics 4570 is code 10 and cannot start.
so i inserted the acer upgrade dvd
and ran all EXCEPT the amd puma driver
rebooted
all ok
then i ran the puma driver, rebooted and the screen never came on...backlighting but no picture.
Holding down the power button i just turned it off, rebooted, pressed f7 or 8 whatever key for safe mode and chose
ENABLE LOW-RESOLUTION VIDEO (640x480)
enter...
starting windows...4/3 aspect
right click - screen resolution
change to 1600 x 900 (recommended)
no more errors
my brother has got an acer dvd installation upgrade because he bought an acer aspire 5563 or something after july 26th.. so he got a free upgrade to windowss 7 and hes installing it on his comouter as im speaking. i have a dell dimension e521- i know that i can use the DVD again- but my question is- will the Acer DVD work on my computer?
i have used 7loader by hazar and orbit32 to only change my oem logo on my system so its acer, and the name of the oem is now acer- but will the actually DVD detect that its a dell and would not allow me to install, or let me install and when i enter my users desktop for the first time it will not let me do things because it is a dell- making my computer be unaccessible and all my work and coursework i can not be accessed- so will the acer dvd work?- meaning that i can continue my work on the best OS ever, and the whole operation will work fine, valid, and smooth without any problems?
I own a acer aspire laptop 5100 series which came with Vista pre installed on it.My ex boyfired decided to install Windows 7 Professional on my laptop earlier this year and now I can't seem to get skype working properly like it use to before Win 7. Nobody can hear me and I've configured the the microphone and speakers to how they should be set in order for skype to work but no one can hear although I can hear every one just fine. I have the latest version on skype installed. I was wondering if the issue is because I have windows 7 on here instead of what it originally came with?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis problem started a week ago, when the Acer Aspire One 532h would not boot. Eventually, even restoring it using the partition failed. I have ordered the Acer recovery discs which will restore it to Win 7 starter. But yesterday, just on a whim, I turned on the netbook and was able to restore it successfully. I then installed Webroot SecureAnywhere Essentials and have run numerous scans that found no threat - so this does not appear to be malware. (The unit had avast! free AV before this trouble started.) I then spent hours installing Win 7 updates using the Windows Update utility on the Acer. However, near the end of the Win updates, Windows crashed and the screen went black again. When this happens, the unit's power stays on; this is not a fan/overheating problem, I don't think.
This a.m., the Acer booted successfully, and I then uninstalled Office and installed Open Office. The unit then "blacked out" again. During this time, I also tried to install Java, since I had been getting a pop-up that it needed to be updated. Java would not install successfully, and the Acer then started "blacking out" several more times. I was finally able to boot it in Safe Mode to turn it off. But it took several attempts.
Rather than running the recovery discs from Acer for Windows 7 Starter, I am considering upgrading to Win 7. Can anyone tell me if this might solve this problem? Or should I just proceed to order an external drive to run the recovery discs?
My Acer Aspire One ZA3 came with XP installed and I want to upgrade to Windows7. I have my own copy of Windows7 (OEM Disk), but am not sure about the disk structure Acer use when they deliver the machines.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario CQ56 64-Bit (Windows 7 Home Premium) laptop that I bought before the summer, today a Windows Update has given me an Acer display update published on the 28/12/2011. I thought because I had my vga cable plugged into the TV Windows Update may have become confused but despite checking for updates again it still appears there as optional.
AMD/ATI is recognized by Windows and Windows Update and there had already been a display driver update not so long ago, so I cannnot understand why I'm receiving an update for the wrong machine?
When i turn the computer on i get the screen : setup is starting service. Install Windows. The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. I have contacted acer they tried to help with the ALT and F12. Nothing I have tried works.. They told me to order the recovery discs for $20.00. I did , and they dont work either... I contacted them back, and now they say to send it back to them and for $199.00 plus shipping, they will repair the computer..I do not have the money for that..I have the the system disc, the 3 recovery disc and the language disc , that I just ordered from Acer for $20.00.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I press down f10 and ALT at the same time during boot up from the factory recovery disk when seeing the splash screen, nothing happens and the 'acer laptap just boots from the regular hard drive as usual.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed Win 7 RC on a new build and purchased Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM with upgrade to Win 7 Home premium. The Win 7 upgrade disc has arrived. I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. View 9 Replies View RelatedCustomer dropped off a laptop telling me that his Windows upgrade had failed.
It's a new HP DV6 that had Vista pre-installed on it.
I've taken a look at it, and there's a "Windows.old" folder on the root of C:, which is of course a back up of all his data.
There's also a batch file inside the folder with the following inside of it:
"REM Dummy file for NTVDM"
I'm wondering if there's a way to "continue" the upgrade / merging process? He has asked me to re-install all of his software the way he had it. So i'm hoping there's an easier way to continue where he left off.
I know Windows 7 creates a "Windows.old" folder when upgrading from XP. Not sure why one was created for a Vista to Windows 7 upgrade though.
I have a pc with Windows XP pro 32bit retail version. First I have made an image, just in case. Then I have upgraded it to windows 8, 64bit by using the retail upgrade DVD and clean install. However, I found out that my motherboard is so old (5 years old) that there are no drivers for win8 and after asking ASUS they said that the motherboard is not supported any more and that there will be no new drivers for it. I tried using win7 drivers but it did not work and without correct drivers a lot of things does not work (in particularly hdmi port). What I want to do now is to revert to my image (windows xp), buy a Windows 7, 64bit upgrade retail DVD and upgrade windows xp to windows 7 for which there are drivers for my motherboard.
1) Can I use windows xp retail (whose product key has already been used to upgrade to win8) image to upgrade to windows 7 retail? will the activation of windows 7 succeed? I want to use clean install again since i upgrade from 32bit to 64bit
2) If the answer to question 1 is a yes, how does microsoft prevent users from using the same windows image file to upgrade different pc's? I mean, theoretically, I can make an image of pc1, copy it to a hard drive of pc2 (even if it will result in erroneous installation due to different specs) and upgrade both systems by using two VUP product keys which are cheaper than one VUP + one retail product keys
3) Can I use windows 8 upgrade DVD which is not used any more to upgrade another PC?
I purchased Windows 7 Professional through the Ultimate Steal.
Downloaded it, put it on a disk also.
It will go through the start of the setup and copy files etc, and then it will give an error and say to install from a current version of windows I need to use the upgrade anytim through windows.
But when I go to upgrade anytime it asks for an upgrade key, but all I have with the purchase was a product key and it says that I can't use the product key.
any help?
edit: also i have windows 7 home premium installed right now
and here is exactly what it says:
"To upgrade from one edition of Windows 7 to another edition of Windows 7, use Windows Anytime Upgrade. Cancel the upgrade, open the Start menu, and search for Windows Anytime Upgrade. "
can i use the windows 7 professional student upgrade to upgrade from windows 7 home premium?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm considering whether to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. IMHO, the new OS seems to be not sufficiently "mature" yet, and it is better to wait for the first service pack to come out before actually upgrading.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIt turned on like it usually does with the ACER logo on the screen, but it goes to a black screen came that said:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
Followed by some more text, and then it asks how I would like to start windows up, in safe mode(s), last known good configuration, or start windows normally.
So I just select Start Windows Normally and it started to boot up, with the Microsoft Windows 7 loading screen. Then KABLAM! The black screen with the different options popped up AGAIN. I then tried every single other boot option, all the safe modes, everything, and every time it would show that black screen with the different boot options(that don't work). So I hit F8 and tried all the options in there, reboot, debugging mode, all of them, they all did the same thing and brought back to that dreaded black screen. I tried everything...except for the obvious destructive restart.I know I will probably have to do a complete restart of my computer, but before I do that, how can I backup data from a non-functioning laptop? Right before this happened, I was going to backup my data, but this happened. I know I need to do a backup all the time, but I was being dumb. I deserve this.
Just noticed they have windows 7 drivers on their website for anyone whos interested.
