I have been backing up my computers religiously. I will open another question post about what specifically is recommended for backups but for now, I need to find a way to get rid of this file on my 250GB Seagate FreeAgent drive. I suspect it got there from backing up my computer which is NTFS and onto the FreeAgent Drive, which I suspect is FAT32, and now, I can't delete it. I can't move it or rename it or anything. What ever I do, pops up this warning... (see screenshot)

I hope somebody has encontered this and has an idea. I have started reducing the length of the shortcut names when I save them as a bookmark or favorite place. But I still need to get rid of this one and I would prefer to do it without having to reformat the drive.

friend's netbook (Samsung N150) running Windows 7. Upon booting up, i tried to open any program shortcuts on the desktop but multiple windows prompt me whether i want to delete the shortcuts. Any files or folders i clicked it happens too. Hence halting up the system. At first i thought it was some kind of virus or malware, so booted to safe mode to have it scan. But surprisingly, the problem still persist in safe mode. So i ran some live cds and managed to clean the system. Booted up normally and the problem's still there. Did last known good config, system restore, checked and updated the drivers but to no avail. So i resort to the last method. Re install windows
I was trying to Rename a jpeg picture that was in a folder that was on my desktop. I clicked on something else in the list-maybe Create Shortcut-and the large picture is on my desktop showing behind all of my icons.
when I <ctrl>B in WORDS 2010 I don't get what I should - i.e. bold font typing - but some unclear (to me) response. How do I restore the original function of <ctrl>B?
When using Notepad (Version 6.1.7600.16385) (or just any Version for that matter) and trying to delete a whole word using the very handy ctrl + delete shortcut key, the Notepad application types this very strange symbol instead. Actually... I couldn't paste it for some reason. But it looks like a little box thing. Just try it in notepad and you will see it appear. First of all I find this annoying, so I was wondering what can I do to make it so ctrl + del works in Notepad for deleting whole words (because I love notepad). And second, why does it do this? Notepad isn't the only text box in Windows 7 that does this, I've found it on a couple of other text input elements as well. And what does this symbol even mean?
I'm trying to move a file from my desktop to a folder on my Hard Drive (Internal) but everytime i attempt to do this it says, "Window's Can't Create a Shortcut here, do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?". This have never happened to me before and frankly I'm a little perplexed at why this is happening.
I'm trying to clean up an external drive by deleting various files (using Windows Explorer) but like every file gives me "an unexpected error is keeping you from deleting the file error 0x80070570".
Now for some reason I can delete the files using del in the command prompt. But I need to delete hundreds of specific files scattered around, so I need to figure out how to get around this error.I don't want to chkdsk etc on the external either. I just want to bypass the error.

I have about 5 MKV files that I can not delete or rename or move. I can copy them, but then the copies will not be deletable at wherever I paste them. I have tried running as an administrator and "taking ownership", but still can not delete them. They are all .MKV if that matters. I am on Win 7 home 64.
I have an annoying problem with my player 12 in as much as I have deleted the public sample video file/folder from my system (the one with baloons) but have been left with the short cut in the videos playlist that cannot be deleted or played (obviously as it no longer exsists). I have ran cc cleaner and advanced system care with no luck on removing the redundant short cut!

I've got a directory that contains several empty folders that I'd like to delete. When I attempt to delete the folders I get the error 'Could not find this item. This is no longer located in.' I'd ignore this problem, but some software I've got throws up an error when it scans the directory, and finds these 'phantom' folders.
Recently I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate (not an upgrade). It's a hard drive that had already had Win 7 Ultimate on it, but I had run into some snafus, so I just re-installed fresh. As you probably already know, Windows 7 detects previous Windows installations and puts it into a folder called "Windows.old". After my new installation was done, this Windows.old folder was pretty big, around 25 gigabytes. From some searching I did, I found out about using Disk Cleanup, and you put a checkmark in the box for Previous Windows installations, and then let the program run its course.
So, lately my Windows 7 started acting weird. I'm not able to delete or rename files that I have used recently. Let's say I run File.exe, close it and I want to delete/rename this file. Sometimes I'm trying to do that I get error about something that couldn't delete file because it's in use. It also happens with auto patchers in games, system denies to delete/modify items. Happens with compiler aswell, they're not able to over-write output file. I'm not going to post screenshot since it doesn't happen always and I don't really know how to reproduce this, but it's regular error box with message similar to "Couldn't delete file. File is in use/opened by some process." or something like that with 2 buttons "Retry" and "Cancel". Current solution for that is Log off/Reboot or use application called "UnLocker" (I found it via Google some time ago)
There are certain folders in my hdd that I am unable to delete. When i click on delete I get the deleting window and it keeps showing deleting for hours together. I had installed windows 8 RP on a separate partition. I wanted yo get rid of it so I removed its entry from boot menu but now I am unable to delete the folders left after it such as windows, windows.old and programfiles.
The error is that you need permission from trusted installer to delete file.

I have a .mkv video file which I cannot rename, move, or delete. Every time I do so this message shows: "The action cannot be completed because the file is open in windows explorer. Close the file and try again." If I try to delete the folder, a similar message pops up saying that a file is in use in another program.

I recently upgrade my entire computer, with it i brought a 2TB WD HDD. I set everything up, installed Windows 7 and updated all my drivers/etc.
I then moved my old 3x 1TB drives over, in it, one partition had my old Windows 7, I am unable to format/delete windows folder/program files. One HDD had my old Vista partition, same story..i can't format/delete.
What i basically want to do is, take those 3 drives, format and re-set them into 1TB 1 Parition drives. Now i have 1.6TB space left on my 2TB drive, so i can put one entire drive over and format the old, repartition to 1...
How can i get about this? I don't understand why the boot system will have problems because when i installed Windows 7 it had no other drives to see..
Last night I decided to install a game, so I made a folder on my desktop. I finished installing it last night. Today I decided I dont need it any more so, I went to delete it. The file says that I need administrative privillages. Then says u require permission from Owner-HpOwner to make changes to folder. I am the admin though, just got my computer last night, it was pre-owned. Just displayed in the window of future shop, but still pre owned. I changed the account name from owner to corey...
