Jun 19, 2011I would like to know exactly what steps I need to take to connect to a PPTP VPN. I have seen the Tutorials on this forum but I still can't make a PPTP VPN connection.

PPTP VPN Connection Won't Connect 619 Error
Dec 24, 2009I have my Windows 7 Ultimate PC here and I can connect to my worksite via the built-in VPN software in windows 7 no problem whatsoever.
I've just built a second PC and installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it, it is sitting here right next to me on my same network and it refuses to connect via VPN.
Username and Password is OK, I've perfectly mirrored the VPN configuration between the two machines and one connects and the other won't.
I've tried turning off all of the windows firewalls on the problematic system with no success.
Everytime it get's to verifying username and password and then it stalls there and eventually comes back with a 619 error. I've checked the logging, but I can't see anything useful there (but maybe i don't know what to look for?).

Jun 10, 2012After a strange install/uninstall of a dodgy modem, my wireless driver doesn't start. When i try to reinstall its' driver, it errors with 'Parameter not correct'. I later found out that this has something to do with WAN Miniport PPTP not being present (which must've been to do with that dodgy modem). However, I can't seem to find the driver for it or any way to reinstall.

Nov 19, 2010I have found a temporary workaround by way of using Hotspot Shield's free VPN services, but I would like to create my own proxy server at home instead so I can avoid the constant timeouts/disconnects involved with the free service.So far I've set up my PC to use a static IP on the network, and forwarded port 1723 to that address. I've also enabled incoming connections under adapter settings, but it just seems like I'm missing something big here. I am unable to make a connection to my home PC from my iPhone over WAN, and even if I was able to I'm not sure how to enable internet connection sharing over that connection.

Jan 18, 2012I have a large screen TV that I need to run PowerPoint presentations on, and maybe video. The IT department set up Cat5 from the PC to the TV, but I cannot get anything from the PC to display.
I am trying this on two different computers. One is XP Pro, and the other is Windows 7 Pro. I would prefer the XP machine, but will sacrifice the Windows 7 machine to this if I have to.
Both the PC and the TV show connectivity at the ports, but there is no display on the TV. Multiple Monitors do NOT show in either machine.
Can Connect To Internet But Can No Longer Connect To 198.192.1.1
May 18, 2012I CAN connect to internet just fine using my wifi BUT I CAN NO LONGER connect to 198.192.1.1!!! Any idea how to solve this problem? I'm using a Dell Insprion 1545 and Win7 32-bit. I never had this issue before, jut popped up when I tried using ICS on a different laptop, an IBM thinkpad T42 also using Win7 and connected to the same network via wifi. Again I can connect to the internet just fine on all my laptops, but 192.168.1.1 (for my netgear router) returns "unable to connect" page!!! have verified (via ipconfig) that my gateway ip is 192.168.1.1. I have valid IPs on all the laptops, but cannot connect to router setup page.

Jul 24, 2012For some weird reason, when I click on the IE9 Quick Launch Toolbar or the desktop icon, I get instantly kicked out of connecting the screen flashes for a nonasecond and the then back to square one.If I repeatedly try connecting via an explorer link in my INBOX, that will sometimes let me into IE9 and once there, everything works fine thereafter!I have tried to uninstall IE but I cannot even find it in the list of programs that would permit such, part of the OS I guess?Even when established onto IE(, it is quite common to have messages advising that a "website error occurred and unable to display page etc looking for solutions"..Alternatively I have tried to reinstall it from various sites but get the message that a "later version of IE9 is installed, please uninstall this first etc. etc." running round in circles all the time I am!Just as an offsider and to avoid another post, on this TSG site, my cursor won't work with the directional arrows any more????? I downloaded AVG, Adaware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy on another computer. I put these files on a cd. Aug 27, 2012I am fixing my mom's cousin's laptop Dell Inspiron 1750, which is unable to access the internet. This system runs Windows 7 and can't connect to any router wirelessly. The ethernet port on the laptop also has some bent pins in it, so it can't connect through wire either. The first thing I did when I looked at this computer was connect it to my wireless router and I got the limited connectivity symbol in the taskbar. So I tried to ping and did ipconfig /release and /renew in cmd and that didn't work. I also did a /flushdns and that didn't work. So I went into the internet options and checked if the DNS setting were set to acquire automatically and they are. I have also uninstalled the dell wireless utility as I find it bloatware and unnecessary. I uninstalled the WLAN driver and reinstalled it and that didn't do anything. I then went into safe mode with networking and discovered that I was able to connect wirelessly there. So i figured it could have been the antiviruses (McAfee) firewall or malware of some kind. I downloaded malwarebytes and scanned and found nothing so I uninstalled malwarebytes and so I figured it was McAfee.

Oct 9, 2012Most of the time, whenever I open a browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Chrome) it takes 5-10 seconds before it will connect to any websites. The tabs just show the 'connecting' symbol spinning. This happens even if I'm only trying to open a single tab. It's not because the computer is going slow or anything, because I can still access other programs or do other things within the browser like open new tabs, view options, etc. It's not a problem with my internet connection, because while the browser refuses to load a site I can use the command prompt to ping the same site and I get a response immediately. This has only started happening recently, like in the past two weeks.

Can't Connect With XP Machines
Jan 26, 2009I have a home network with 7 or 8 XP machines. All are on the same workgroup. All share EVERYTHING. All have passwords. All are logged in with an ADMINISTRATOR account. All can see each other on the network. They all talk to each other just fine. All the GUEST accounts are turned ON.I loaded Windows 7 on a machine, and turned on sharing for drive C: I gave everyone ALL permissions. I also went into the Network and Sharing Center. I had no idea what a "HomeGroup" was, so I went a few more menus deep and found the Workgroup setting. I set that up with the name of my workgroup.From the Windows 7 machine, I can see all the XP machines on the network, and they can see the Windows 7 machine. But when I try to view anything (drive C: , for example), I get the "you might not have permission to view this network resource....". I get the same thing when I try to log on to the Windows 7 machine from the XP machines.Since I can't log on to my XP machines, I also can't connect to, and use the printers attached to them.I basically want a big, open, flat network. No security at all between machines. What do I need to do?

2. then i went to Download Angry Birds to download the demo version of angrybirds.
3. my first computer could not download it, it says "unable to connect" , but my second computer can download perfectly..
4. so now, i bought the angry birds game from rovio, i used my 1st computer to activate the game, guess what, activation cannot connect, so i cannot activate my game in 1st computer, but can activate in my 2nd computer..

Can't Connect To DNS Server
Apr 5, 2012Today, my house got new internet. Now, my desktop, which is plugged directly into the modem, can't connect to the DNS server. I have internet connection, since Skype and Steam both work, but any web browser only works about 15% of the time. Neither of the three wireless-connected laptops in the house are having any problems. I've tried a few things, but nothing seems to work.

Feb 14, 2011how do I find out my network password? or is there some other way to connect?I have been able to connect two PC's before with my friends Vista laptop and we usually just match up ip addresses and he puts in the network password and it works.I did the same thing with the windows 7 laptop and i can get to the network password stage, at which I do not know the password. All I know is that it isn't my log in password, my laptop's log in password, or my friends laptop password.
