Svchost.exe Very High, Freezes Computer?
May 8, 2011
Withing minutes of logging in the svchost.exe goes from around 20,000 mem usage to, well now it's at 400,000. So I'll probably freeze up soon. I tried disabling some automatic updates, like windows and symantec's, but it's not helping. Is it ok to end the process? (system restore is enabled)

I got this computer about a year ago and I noticed with my SVCHost files I got about 12 (which is normal) but the one starts at 100mb when I turn on the computer and gets up to about 450mb. It doesn't slow down my computer or anything. But I was simply wondering is 450mb to high? Or does it just vary depending on your setup? I also have a few various programs going including the MS Security Essentials and MS Firewall. Which I heard does increase it. I also know not to be worried unless SVCHost starts using alot of CPU, mines only at like 5%. I only have 8gigs of memory. I run games fine though like Hitman Absolution and so on.

I have encountered a very high memory usage in one svchost.exe process on my win 7 64-bit. Attached screen shots of process associated with it. Some times it goes up about 300Mb too. I have tried several suggestions already available for this issue. But No luck. I've tried by updating Windows (ref), scanning PC by TREND officescan. Also when I tried with only with Microsoft Services using Selective Startup option in msconfig as suggested here, issue remains same. (With that can I conclude that it is related with malware?)
Also need to note that the WLAN AutoConfig service (wlansvc) associated with that svchost.exe make sense as I've encountered some problem uninstalling wireless router software.I feel that that has not been properly uninstalled. how to check/or rectify it.

I have a system I am working on that no matter what I do svchost.exe keeps CPU usage on a Quad core hovering around 70-80% and temps in excess of 120F with a ThermalTake BlueOrd cooler installed. It is a custom system I built, with the following specs:
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.1
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional , 64 bit
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9850 Quad-Core Processor, AMD64 Family 16 Model 2 Stepping 3
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 1791 Mb
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4200, 256 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 305142 MB, Free - 265597 MB;
Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC., M4A785-M, Rev X.0x, 105424870002755
Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials, Updated and Enabled
Usage spikes when Outlook, IE8 and SKype are running after a random time period. I had this system on my bench for 2 weeks straight running benchmark tests and stress test software which all came back "PASS." I scanned for malware, virus, rootkits, etc. to no avail (all clean). Because of the extraordinarily high usage, USB drives are not working properly (take more than 2 hours to come up) and the system is sluggish. This should not be happening on a QuadCore system with a high-performance cooler. I even went so far as to format the HDD and perform a fresh install of everything. It worked perfectly for about 30-min then the BluRay drive stopped recognizing discs, CPU usage spiked up to 70%+ (two cores are at 94-97% usage all the time), and it won't pick up USB devices.

I have come to find that after start up, after a few minutes. My computer will run EXTREMELY slow, I would wait a few minutes and open up task manager, and see that my CPU (AMD athalon 64 X2 Dual core processor 6000+ 3.1GHtz) and my Ram (16GB gameing ram clocked at 800) both maxed out at 100%, with no other programs running. Just after ideling from start up.I open the resource monitor, and click (from highest useage) and one of the SVChost.exe files are causeing all of my resources to be taken up."for those who will want to know, it's SVChost.exe (LocalServiceAndNoImpersonation)"So for the past few months, it's either I don't turn my computer off, or when I do, I need to be quick and catch it when it does start eating up the resources. The only reason why it's a pissoff to me to the point of posting about it, and actually posted about something, is because if I want to start MSN or Skype (only those 2 programs that I know about) I need to go through the whole SVChose.exe list, find that one, un-suspend it, wait for the program to finish starting up, and pray that it doesn't lock up my computer.
I have Windows 7 64bit Home Premium, SP1 running on my custom gaming computer built by myself.I have already ran multiple virus scans and even the windows CMD scan. (That took like a day)I do have teamviewer if someone eventually wants to connect and poke around to see what's going on..
EDIT: also, before this all started happening, I had about a 25second startup time (after getting passed the ASUS screen, and the "what OS do you want to load" screen. Now it's been jacked up to about 3-4mins.

Recently i have been having extremely high ping rates to any website i try to ping. Normally i run ping [URL] -t well my results constantly run over 100ms ping times while all of the rest of the computers on my network run around 40ms ping time. I have determined that it must have something to do with my computer. Here is a list of everything i have tried:
-Reinstall network card drivers (had no effect)
-Scan my computer with msert, Security essentials, spybot S&D (no results)
-Plugging a different computer into the same network cable (other computer worked fine)
-Boot in safe mode (had no effect, still getting bad ping times)
I ran Hijackthis and here are the results:

There's this high pitch sound coming from my computer. You can hear it if you're within like 6 or 7 feet. I think it's coming from the cooling fan. The weird thing I noticed is that the sound goes away if my ethernet cable is not plugged in.

(Sony Vaio) has been extremely slow lately, which I am assuming because the physical memory is constantly high (up to 95% at times) even when I am not doing anything. Below are some screenshots for information. I have tried killing some processes but cannot find one process that is a major problem. 52 Processes are currently running which doesnt seem so excessive. Is it normal to have so much memory reserved for hardware?

I recently built a great system. It has the following specs:
Core i5 2500k 3.3GHz
Radeon HD 6790 1GB
8 GB of Corsair C9 kit of memory
PH67S-C43 (B3) motherboard from MSI.
Caviar Black 750gb
Greenpower 1TB
The only problem is, it runs very slowly in some applications such as Firefox and Minecraft. I've installed all drivers listed on the MSI website as well as my GPU drivers. Still no luck. I've installed Steam, microTorrent, Microsoft Security Essentials, Java (x64), Adobe Flash, and Adobe Reader X.

I just installed windows 7 ultimate sp1 - Like the title says I'm seeing 35% cpu usage with nothing going on. I googled around and ran traces to see which driver it was, turned out the ahci driver was doing it. The USB driver showed similarly high latency but that can be delt with later. Most forums recommend upgrading your drivers but this problem has stayed constant both with microsoft's stock drivers for everything and after running windows built in search for drivers even after I manually grabbed the latest drivers for everything. url...BIOS is up to date4 GB RAM - Corsair something or otherEVGA Geforce 8800 GT450W psu1 DVD burner (sata)5 hard drives (sata) plugged into all but the first sata port because that caused nothing but headaches for me. Update - switching from AHCI to IDE in BIOS fixed the problem.

Computer runs very slow. Computer freezes randomly. Does not want to boot past windows startup except for in safe mode(SOMETIMES). IF IT BOOTS takes and an incredibly long time to get to the desktop (20-45min). Does not want to run programs. Runs EXTREMELY slowly (makes a windows 95 pc look like a speed demon.) Random restarts, restart loops, and shutdowns. Sometimes after turning on it will immediately shut off then turn back on. Keeps recommending windows repair on startup. Wants to run chkdsk, then freezes on it.Malware detection programs. Hardware diagnostic programs. registry tools. disk defrags. Driver updates. Windows updates. BIOS update. System restore. Windows repair tool. Repair installation (twice). WINDOWS 7 CLEAN INSTALLATION (twice).Exactly the same as the first day it started happening. So not only did I lose all programs and files, but my pc still runs like crap. Also, this is a higher end pc under a year old. [code]

My Windows 7 Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop freezes after startup. This randomly started one day after I had normally gotten on the computer and decided to boot it back up. The computer starts up normally, and all the icons load up, but the connection bar has a circle on it. I can click on things, but nothing happens, it just highlights things. And when I hit control alt delete, the computer freezes and a few minutes later, it pulls up this thing that says the logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the Operating System does not respond press ESC or restart the computer by the power switch In windows 7.

A few weeks ago I upgraded from windows XP to windows 7 and did a clean install.Everything was working smoothly except when the Visual setting is set on Quality vs. Performance, either my computer would completely freeze after a few minutes and I have to do a hard boot OR it's going to give me the black screen flicker then "Display Driver Stopped Responding and has recovered" error. Most of the time it doesn't recover though and it just freezes completely.I wish I could provide a BSOD minidump but my comp never BSOD. Only freezes with no keyboard/mouse activity. Applications affected:Computer also freezes/show me the error when I try to play video on itunes, play minecraft, while playing Sims 2 and league of legends. Seems to me that all the application that puts stress on the GPU doesn't work anymore :But the thing is, all these said applications were FINE when I was running windows XP.

I am running an ASUS G73 with Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Just after logging in the computer freezes normally within the first minute of the desk top showing up. I have run virus scan, malwarebytes, all of it and its showing nothing found. I saw a thread from december last year on here with a similar issue were it was suggested the person post the results from a HijackThis System scan i will do the same in my next post. I looked at it but its all jibberish to me. The only thing i can do on my PC is safe mode.
