Safely Remove Existing Partitions Before Installing Windows 7?

Jun 11, 2011

I was going through the instructions on TweakHound for a clean install of Windows 7. 1 -oot up from the Windows 7 installation disc.2 - Choose Repair your computer.3 - In the System Recovery Options screen, choose Use recovery tools...and click Next.4 - Open the Command Prompt.5 - Type diskpart and hit Enter.6 - Type list disk . Find the disk you wish to install Windows 7 on. If you only have one disk then it will show as disk 0. If you have multiple disks find the drive you wish to install 7 on.7 - Type select disk 0 (or use the number of the disk you wish to install Windows 7 on)(note - that is a zero)8 - Type list partition. There shouldn't be any.9 - Type create partition primary.10- Type select partition 1.11- Type active.12- Type format quick.13- When finished reboot and begin your installation.I got to step 8 and when I did a "list partition" there are 4 partitions on my machine. Partition 1 - OEM 47MBPartition 2 - Primary 51GBPartition 3 - Primary 17GBPartition 4 - Primary 4753MBWhere do I go from here? Do I use the current configuration? Delete partitions (if I do that how do I do that?) Which partitions to keep?

Would Have To Remove Initial Backup An System Image

Dec 19, 2011

i have a dell laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my C:/ which is 160Gigs. I also have a 2T ext Hard drive Partitioned into, 3 Partitions,F,(500G)G(500G),H(1T),Back in 10/23/11 i had made a backup of my C:/ to my F:/ with a system image. i attempted to make a End of year backup and system image to the F:/, and the backup said i could not back up to the F:/ or G:/ ( both drives has Data on them but they also have enough free space for the backups),so i decided to use the H:/ to do the backup, the backup is including the F;/ in the backup which i do not want backed up,( because it already has a system image and a backup there already) so i manually told the backup to do the C:/ and it still wants to include the F:/ in the backup, I even reset the Windows backup to the default and tried to do a first time ( let me choose what to back up) and still it wants to include the F:/ in the backup and system image, all i would like to do is a simple backup of my C;/, why does Windows insist on including the F:/ in the backup when i explicitly tell it not to, and how would i go about doing a backup of JUST my C;/ ?,Would i have to remove the initial backup an system image from the F:/?

Desktop Icons Won't Delete

Dec 7, 2010

I accidently unzipped a folder to the desktop so the zipped contents were placed on the desktop instead of into a folder like I intended to do. I just selected them all and deleted them and did it into a folder but three icons from the files are left and they cannot be deleted.

This is message I get when I try to delete them "This is no longer located in C:UsersMeDesktop. Verify the items location and try again".I have tried renaming to delete and I get the same does not exist message. The files are 0 bytes in size and are blank icons like a piece of paper with the upper right corner folded down. In properties it says they are a "File (.)" and opens with Windows Shell Command. The unzipped contents were for making a boot CD for a password reset tool.

Cannot Delete Icon From Desktop

Jan 23, 2013

I have an icon on my Win7Pro desktop that cannot be deleted, changed, or anything. I believe it was originally connected to a pdf file that I downloaded (from a reputable site) but the download was interrupted. It's file name is simply Donor.

When I try to delete it I get a flash screen that states: Could not find this item. This is no longer located (in desktop location). Verify the item's location and try again.

I cannot rename the file. It's properties shows that it is on the desktop but has 0 bytes.

I have tried about a gazillion things to no avail, including: Searched the registry for any entry that matches Donor, with nothing found. Booted into safe mode and tried from there with no luck, still won't delete. I am using full Kaspersky and a complete system sweep shows no malware, virus, etc. Found some sites that gave some script for trying to remove such files via the CMD prompt, but result always was that the file does not exist.
