It Is Taking Long Time To Install

Jul 17, 2010

so my problem is that the installation of Windows 7 Ultimate takes way longer than expected to install. So far I've botten to about 80% on "Expanding files" after about 7 hours. My specs is in my profile, unfortunatly I can't be nrd precise at this moment, as I havet no possibility of checking while installation is on, but the Microsoft Upgrade Advisor (or what the name was) told me it was good enough to run Windows 7 in both 32 and 64bit. The copy I'm installing is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (Swedish DVD), bought packaged with both 32bit and 64bit DVDs. I'll copy the pre-made questions for installation problems under here, with as accurate info as possible.

It Is Taking Too Long To Install Update

Mar 25, 2012

I did a Windows 7 reinstall on my HP Pavillion. I thought it was working fine. The internet was running very, very slow so I did a restart. When it rebooted this came up: " Please do not power off or unplug while installing update 10 to 116..." Well it's been at 10 of 116 for an hour now. Nothing seems to be happening. I fear I might have done the Windows 7 reinstall wrong. After all, it only took on of the DVDs that HP sent to me.

Long Boot Times On New Computer After Install Of Equipment

Jul 9, 2012

I recently purchased a new PC and it was working very well the first few days. I eventually installed a power source and video card from my previous computer into my new computer, and I began to have issues. When I boot up computer, I will see a solid underscore for about at least a minute before it finally boots up. Previous to this, it would boot up in under 10 seconds. I installed an Antec earth watts 500 and a nvidia gts 450. I updated the drivers. Other factors: Installed avg free, malwarebytes free, installed a couple of games and some programs like MSI Afterburner. I scanned my entire system with both of the security programs listed earlier. I checked my connections inside the computer and everything is snug and secure. I couldn't see any issues.

How Long Should An Upgrade Take ?

May 3, 2009

So, recently I downloaded Windows 7 RC1 and the upgrade is doing alright except it's been upgrading for 17 hours and 20 mins, it's making very slowly progress with the last item .. switching the message at the bottom constantly between "Please Wait..." and "Transferring files, settings and programmes (395931 of 523838 transferred)" it's been on number that for at least 6 hours and 20 mins that i know of.

Should i leave it and hope for the best? or say it's over and it's time to do something about it?

Edit: Specs are RAID0 SATA HDD's, 3GHZ Dual core AMD, 8 GBs of RAM, ATI Radeon HD3870 and I'm upgrading from Vista SP1 to 7RC1

Long Load After Login

Feb 28, 2012

Since about a week ago, whenever I turn on my laptop and login to Windows 7 I can't click anything for about 5-10 minutes (changes every time). A loading icon pops up while I can't click anything (reminds me of Mac spinning wheel of death). Sometimes the wallpaper will go white and a box comes up that says something like "Windows is not responding, would you like to end now?" I just wait a few more minutes and it eventually fixes itself.I haven't downloaded, installed, or changed anything recently. I did notice however, when I shut down the laptop there is always an update available. I start the update and the laptop shuts itself off when it is done. Startup time was fast until this started happening a week ago. Ran virus scan and deleted/uninstalled old games to free up space. [code]

Thumbnails Take Too Long To Load?

Jun 21, 2011

I have this issue with thumbnails of photos taking a very long time to load when I open a folder in windows explorer. I mean a really long time, like 5+ minutes, for a folder that contains say 200 pictures. And this happens all the time, regardless of what else may be running, and regardless of what size thumbnails I select. What's weird too is that if I have an external harddrive hookep up through a USB 2 or 3, and open a folder in windows explorer with a similar number of pictures, those thumbnails load normal, fast. So it's only slow when it's reading thumbnails from my internal harddrive. Otherwise I don't believe my internal drive is slow, as everything else like launching programs etc works fine.

btw, I'm on an Envy 17 laptop, i5, 8 gigs RAM, 640 gig hars drive, Win 7 home premium. But I don't think my system config matters, since as I said, thumbnails load fine when reading from an external drive.

Folder Name(s) Said To Be Too Long Even When It Doesn't?

Aug 15, 2012

unfortunately i'm here because i have issue that ih (i have two actually but i will make other thread for the second one)The issue goes like this:When Windows 7 was out around 2 and half years ago it was fine, after that.around the time that SP1 was out Windows 7 start to gave me alot of folder's name too long errors
even if the folders names are only 2 letters!i happened to format my pc alot last year and the issue don't seem to be solve and just keep getting worse each day, i'm aware that Windows 7 have a limit of something around 260 letters But it gave me these errors randomly Even when everything is fine and don't allow me to either burn or copy path stuff, it even don't let me see the folder size when the name is "too long"i discovered more Windows 7's annoying bugs But this is undoubtedly one of the worse i have encountered (if it even count as a bug...)

Boot Time Is Quite Long?

Aug 21, 2012

got Windows 7 up and runninfor a while now , but I am noticing that my boot time is quite long, at least, that how it feels to me. Ive got a pretty strong laptop, so 80 seconds or even 2 minutes at a certain point to boot up seems strange, right? And this is when I've got almost no software installed, it's still mostly a clean laptophen I did the clean install, I had to convert the disk from GPT to MBR,otherwise I could not have installed Windows. Is it because this conversion that my boot time has increased? My laptop supports UEFI, and UEFI needs GPT in order to work.

Long Time Booting Up

Dec 12, 2009

I'm having problem with Windows 7 on my laptop. I had beta version up to recently because I didn't use it much, but few days ago I decided to install retail version which I also have on my PC, so I know that dvd works.

It's 64bit(beta version was too) and my laptop can handle it. MSI Gx620.

Now problem is, when I install it all goes well, but then it gets to Loading Windows screen, with 4 part logo that flashes and just stands there, for like 20 minutes. And then boots up and all is fine! In beta version I didn't have that problem.

I tried booting up in safe mode and it was stuck again for long time on this thing: CLASSPNP.SYS

I did full format and fresh install every time. I tested 2 Vista's I had, 1 worked fine, the other one had same problem.

I tried repair and it was doing it for very very long time and finnaly said that it cant be done automatic and check online with this in details:

Problem signature:
Problem Event name : StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 03: unknown
Problem Signature 04: 0
Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
Problem Signature 06: 1
Problem Signature 07: NoRootCause
POS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

At event viewer it says like 4.20 windows start up, 4:30 starts loading some applications. and 10 min gap between it.

I am going to try to update bios with newest version from site as soon as I manage to boot from USB, for some reason it won't boot up(says missing ntldr) and will post if that fixes it.

Please tell me what to do or try, maybe if it hardware fault I can send it back to service to get it fixed but first gotta find out whats the problem.

BSOD And Chkdsk Won't Run Now (very Long)

May 7, 2012

1.For the past week been having issue with rpcnet.exe or something like that..i think it's a file that is included with dell lojack but I never paid for it so don't know why it's there. My Anvir program said new startup program with rpcnet was trying to load and I hit quarantine or delete every boot up. it seemed to appear every time I rebooted for days then and then just disappeared after a few more days

2.Being worried, I downloaded at least 3 other malware programs and ran them...no issues...

3.Last week updated to zonealarm 10.2 from 10.1. it now includes antivirus so I had to disable it because I use essentials...it took a reboot to 'take' but the antivirus did remain off then

4.As I told you before, that malwarebyte program was apparently doing more than ZA but I decided not to use it for real time protection and disabled it. All manual scans showed all ok

5.Thinking comodo may be a better firewall that ZA, I installed it yesterday morning. It installed ok but then crashed upon reboot to complete the install

6.In safe mode I tried to do system restore and it said C disk structure error and would I like to run chkdisk upon reboot..yes!

7.For the next few hours I tried every trick I could...wouldn't do a chkdsk..tried last good known configuration upon boot, tried the command prompt as an administrator..did chkdsk /f and /r and even one other one..never ran..ever..not even on reboot. Thing is I could stay in safe mode and surf the web and try to find answers with no worries..no errors at all. But when I rebooted, BSOD..the error codes I got lead to some sort of disk error..i couldn't defrag nor chkdsk. Heck the C drive still to this day doesnst show up as being able to be defragged but I only have 2 gigs of memory left on the machine so it probably cant be?

8.I uninstalled comodo with a generic uninstaller but since it crashed after I installed it, I thought comodo was the problem
9.I decided to do msconfig and then uncheck a bunch of things starting up..i unchecked so many when I rebooted it actually did work and boot OK! I also meanwhile uninstalled ZA to rule that out as an issue.

10.When I booted up, Anvir asked me about 75 things starting up with the machine, I saw most were Microsoft but got tired of hitting ACCEPT after about 30. So left the rest turned off for now.

11.Reinstalled ZA 10.2 and got immediate BSOD upon completion of install. I'm assuming this means it wasn't my other programs at and it just coincidentally worked because I deleted ZA and then unchecked startup items at the same time.

12.Went to safe mode and removed ZA

13.Reinstalled ZA 10.1 and got immediate BSOD

14.Deleted ZA and all works well. It HAS to be ZA that is the issue..correct?

15.Still cannot run chkdsk but the C drive does show up under the disk management screen

16.I also ran some other scan (SFS file check??) and that said was errors but I cant fix them since no chkdsk The machine seems to be back to "normal" now, I have just windows firewall on plus essentials antivirus. But I do want another firewall. I just think something is really fishy that I cannot run chkdsk and confirm the disk is ok. I cant find my dell windows 7 recovery disk but I have a full XP disk and tried to run it to get to recovery console but I got a BSOD with that disk and never got into it even. So any ideas what would prevent chkdsk from running even though I hit yes when it asks me to do it upon reboot? I cannot get over the nagging feeling something else is wrong here. one time I did get something about a dirty 'something' being set on the machine so I'm not sure if that's whats preventing me from running chkdisk.

PC Seems To Take A Long Time To Restart

Aug 28, 2012

1. I am getting a 'searchplugin' folder on my desktop all the time aswell as some admin folders that are completely empty. I can delete them but is there anyway to permanetly stop this? I've heard it can be to do with the internet browser you use? And I do have some stupid internet browsers that arn't Google but is that the problem?

2. My PC seems to take a long time to restart (Not boot, but when I click restart for an update to kick in or something). Sometimes it takes a matter of seconds, sometimes it's quite a bit longer. But if I then hold the power button and then restart the PC manually it's quick booting up. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

3. My PC doesn't actually come out of sleep mode. I'm hving the problem that when I try to wake the PC up nothing happens. I'v set the mouse to wake it up but nothing. The weird thing is the PC starts to boot up (coming out of sleep) but then just powers down again. This continues until I hold the power button down and turn it back on. Now, I've turned sleep off and it's fine but I'd like to know if there is a way to solve this for future reference.

Welcome Screen Takes So Long

Dec 15, 2012

when the system boots, everything goes smooth and fast, untill the welcome screen show up, it takes like 25 seconds!

I've done everything, disabled some of the unnecessary startup progs in the msconfig, but what really annoys me is that on my older PC ( dual core and a 3gb of ram ) it wasn't that bad, it used to take like 3~4 seconds on the welcome screen....

Spec : i7-2600k @4.50 Ghz
RAM : 16 gb of ddr3 1333 Mhz Kingston valueRAM
Mobo : Gigabyte z68
GPU : GTX 560 ti

and the most important part in my issue HDD : WD EARS 1tb 5400 RPM 64MB cache

NOTE : i tried my older HDD in the new system, same results ( ~25 seconds )

Long Date In Taskbar?

Aug 4, 2010

I have a weird issues with the long date format in Win 7. I like displaying the long date in the system tray beneath the clock and did it easily by changing the short date format to be like the long one (dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy). However, the long display date disappeared today but the extra space used by it is still there and if I change it back to the short one (MM/d/yyyy) it works fine. This is the first time this ever happened and I've been using long dates since RC without any issues. At first I thought it was the security updates installed these days but after uninstalling them the problem wasn't fixed.

Edit: after some more fiddling i found out the problem is with "today". The long date would be "Wednesday, August 04, 2010" and it apparently too long to display because dddd, MMM dd, yyyy (instead of MMMM) which is "Wednesday, Aug 04, 2010" works fine. So it's a minor bug in Win7. There seems to be a maximum allowed space for displaying the date which is strange since there's plenty of room on the taskbar (1680*1050 res on 22" screen) and the taskbar is not locked.

Some Processes Take A Long Time To Close?

Aug 30, 2011

Not sure if I'm using proper terminology here, but sometimes I'll close a program and quikcly open it again and the program will be non-responsive. It usually happens when I close a video player to start a new video, or close a browser to open up a fresh collection of tabs (or just to close it because some of the currently open tabs are being buggy) noticed that when I Control-Alt-Delete, the appliactions list is clean, but the program I was running is still listed under "Processes". And sometimes it takes so long to go away I have to force it closed myself. I'm not sure how normal this is, or if it's a sign of an unhealthy computer
