View 9 RepliesRan F12 to regain Operating system - long version. Says computer passes everything but there's no operating system found. Did this Twice. Tried "Operating System" CD that came w/ Studio 17 laptop. Hit option to run via CD & never got anywhere after an hour. Tried Reinstall Hardware disk that came w/ laptop. It shows Vista, but laptop came w/ Windows 7. See where it shows the system's checking things out, but never get anywhere.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSuddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.
"Missing operating system" massage is coming when i start my system and i am not able to start. I think because , i had given "mark partition as active" option for one hard dive (E) in disk management when last time i opened. it did not have any data. i did not know, this will make any problem. Now i am not able to boot windows re installation dvd also. i can only take BIOS settings.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering is there anything within the fabric of your p.c. (the p.c. equivalent of a clothes label) which specifically states its operating system.I have Windows and Windows Office 2007, but as I said, is there anything that clearly stipulates on my hard-drive which operating system I am using.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi would like an application or modification for windows seven that adds a second taskbar, this taskbar is on the top of the screen and monitors programs you may open, however it would be much better organized that the start bar (in fact it is more like the desktop, mabey even folding out to cover your screen too). It also has a start bar included for the messy stuff.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit home edition. I am running a duel monitor setup, the primary monitor is a 24 inch monitor running at 1920 by 1980 and a 19 inch secondary monitor running at 1280 by 1024 (it's the highest resolution that monitor can do.) My video card is two SLI'd nvidia geforce 240 1gb cards.
Before I upgraded, I didn't have any issues with the two monitors (using extended desktop.) Now after the upgrade, the secondary monitor is not 'filling the screen'. It's squished the image up and is leaving one inch of the monitor on the left side empty. When you move the mouse between the two monitors it skips over that space as if it isn't there.
Now, it's not a fault with the monitor, I tried adjusting settings and the image remains squished. I also tried using the nvidia control panel to adjust the resolution manually but that doesn't seem to work either. I'm running the latest release version of nvidias drivers, haven't tried a beta yet.
Suggestions on how to get it to use the whole monitor again like it used to? Because this is really annoying.
Edit: Upon more fiddling, I have found it isn't using about half an inch of the screen on the right side of the monitor either. And the desktop is extended down below the base of the screen, though I cannot tell how far.
I tried to restore my laptop to factory default today and i must have clicked the wrong option because it deleted my Hard Disk. now when i try to start it it says Operating system not found. Is there any way i can fix this? Oh and i have Windows 7 Starter edition, and its a Toshiba notebook laptop

Ive been searching everywhere for a solution but have not one. I do not have my windows 7 install disk as it was already pre-installed but i do have the windows 7 iso on a usb-stick. But when i go to install from the usb and choose custom install it starts to "Copy Window Files" but stays at 0% then an error comes up and says "Windows Setup could not reinitialize the deployment engine. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6500 (dv6647cl) just crashed randomly during basic internet browsing. I turned it back on and I get the Operating System Not Found error. In the BIOS I do not see the hard drive recognized. I connected the hard drive to a different computer and it is recognized and it appears as though nothing is wrong with the drive. Is it safe to say that internally the SATA controller is dead? Will edit after running diagnostics and sector tests on the drive.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy rather new Sony Vaio started having BSOD crashes, usually (but not always) after being asleep. After the BSOD, the restart would fail, with a message saying the operating system could not be found. But, after a couple restarts or a cold reboot, it would find it and start without problem. I reset the bios to defaults, did a system restore to before the crashes started- no luck. To make matters more complicated, the BSOD flash so quickly I don't get error codes, and no matter what I do (check pagefile size/location, system settings), my computer doesn't make a dump file. The event viewer only lists a critical error that the system rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. I called Sony, they had me run one of their hard drive check programs (not chkdsk and it passed), and then made me reformat/recover using the hidden partition and their recovery software. Besides the annoyance of the clean reformat and all my software settings etc not restoring quite right, three days after the reformat and I have another BSOD, and again, no .dmp file or any other clues (and of course, all the previous error reports got wiped).

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen did stability become an issue with operating systems? Was it around the time dial up modems were used as Windows monitor stands? Surely such a stack was not as stable as when people used to put monitors on top of thick telephone directories. Was it when combinations of operating systems and programs often failed for no apparent reproducible reason? What happened to all the operating system bugs? Surely the bugs did not disappear as operating system stability became a concern. I'm trying to pin point the year. I guess it would be the mid 1990s but I'd like to hear your opinions.

My sony vaio is about 2 years old with a Windows 7 64 operating system. I changed the hard drive to a 500GB Toshiba. When I turned the computer back on it said "Operating system not found".
