Toshiba Laptop / Windows 7 - WiFi Option Gone
Dec 1, 2011I have a Toshiba satellite laptop running Windows 7 64bit and recently it crashed. I fixed it and everything worked fine, except for the Toshiba utility at the top of the screen that allows for shortcut keys such as changing the brightness, switching wifi, etc., by pressing the fn key and a F key. The utility shows up, runs, and works fine, except the wifi option is gone. I tried using fn+F8 (the keyboard shortcut for wifi) and it didn't work.
I uninstalled the utility completely, went to Toshiba's website, entered in my computer's model and re-downloaded it. It works fine again, but still no wifi option. In my status bar, my wifi says it is off and if I go into control panel I can disable/re-enable it but it still won't work. I re-downloaded the drivers for my network card, and have tried literally everything. My laptop does not have a physical switch either, other than the keyboard shortcut that no longer works.
I contacted Toshiba and they directed me again to the same utility which they said has the wifi option, followed the steps through the phone, but the option was still not there. How to bypass this? It seems my network card was switched off and cannot be switched back on no matter what since every way of doing so is gone. Is there any application to bypass it or a wireless radio application to force the radio on?

Feb 25, 2011I have a query regarding my Toshiba Satellite A500
OS: Windows 7 premium
Processor: Intel core i5
Ram: 6 G
Recently whenever I try to play a music/movie file I will often get distorted sounds. Sometimes the files play better and at other times it seems like the ram breaks down . Also I noticed that the movie files seem to 'lag' whenever the sound got distorted. Initally I thought that the speakers were at fault so I plugged in some earphones but I still heard the same distorted sounds. This problem also extends to when I am playing games and generally whenever a sound needs to be played.
Furthermore i noticed that when i turn off the internet connection the sound is perfect
I have virus/spyware scanned my pc, defragged and even gone as far as to format and reinstall everything, but the problem still exists.

Mar 2, 2012I have a Linksys WRT54GS that I bought at least 6 years ago. It has worked flawless from the start so I never had to learn anything about wireless networking. That is until now.I just built a new system with a clean install of Windows 7 which I have been running since the final public release in July of 2009. At the same time I took my old box, formatted the HD and put a clean install of XP on it. It has a Linksys WMP54GS wireless-G PCI adapter (w/ speedbooster). Both of these boxes were painless to get online with after the builds. However........now I can no longer access my network with my cellphone and my daughter can no longer connect with her laptop. The network shows up on the phone and the laptop but when trying to connect it won't. Not a thing had been changed on the router. Password is still the same etc. I did go ahead and do the firmware update though. The last time I updated it was 2007 and there had been 8 updates since then. As I said all had been fine so I never thought about checking for updates.
What has me puzzled is that the wireless XP box connects just fine but no matter what the phone and laptop won't. Now this may be a really stupid question but seeing as this is a new Windows 7 install on a new computer (assembled from a Newegg bundle deal) do I need to install the Linksys software CD? Windows 7 Seems to have already configured everything for the network and drivers. I'm hesitant to run the CD because I don't want to risk hosing something in the process and having no internet at all.It's not critical to have the other devices be able to connect but it would be nice to have full access like I used to
