Completely Wipe Out The Computer And Install New Windows 7?
Mar 19, 2012
I have a old laptop that I installed w7 on. I was getting slow, so I wanted to get it so empty as possible. I have backed up all my files. Now I want everything to go, and start with a virgin windows 7.
When I installed win 7 it saved all my files to windows old (as it should) and all programs are left int c:/programfiles/.
How can I get rid of everything? I tried clean in the diskpart command. But it says it cannot(because of having system files on it).
I have an HP desktop running windows vista that will soon be passed on to me. If I buy an "Upgrade" version of windows 7, is there a way to completely and totally wipe out the hard drive and upgrade, or would I have to buy the more expensive "full install" version of 7?
I would like to completely wipe the hard drive of my Lenovo Thinkpad as the Best Buy geek squad really messed things up. I need to back up all of my data first and was wondering if there was any free options online? I have a 4GB jump drive I can use as well.As for wiping the laptops hard drive, what is the best way? Keep in mind that I want to have it completely restored to factory state. I don't want to do a simple reformat through a Windows 7 install
I want to wipe my hard drive becuase over a couple of years it has become a lot slower and i want to try wiping it before i start upgrading it. How can i compeletely wipe a disk but and then re-install windows on it without having to buy a new one. i don't have the original windows disk on it. Do i use the recovery disk, or do i only wipe the non-os partition.
My laptop completely crashed. I took it to my cousin and he completely wiped it clean and put a dell recovery disk into it (its an acer aspire 3000). Well he couldn't find the license key to 'activate' windows. Then the laptop screen broke and started working the other day. Anyways, I want to put windows 7 maybe on a dvd-r. I read somewhere that you have to get a license key hence expire like what happened before. I do have a dvd burner in this computer. So:
1. Where do I download windows 7 iso. 2. How do I put it on a dvd-r. 3. How do I completely wipe the laptop clean without logging into it because as I said windows expired and I cant use it. 4. How long will it take. 5. How can I make sure it wont expire and everything will work fine on it.
Lately i got myself a new computer. I use the wrong OS to install and installed Window XP and Got a BlueScreen mid way. Later i realize there was a Disc containing Windows 7. when i Put the CD in it does nothing. My Pc load all the way up to a black screen with a blinking underscore and stay there. I cant type and can only restart the PC.
I have a drive with 2 partitions 450GB each and a 100GB partition which I use for files shared on a SVN. Currently I am using windows 7 home premium but I just got Ultimate from a friend who gave it to me as a gift. Can I install ultimate on one of the partitions and leave the rest untouched? I have important files like documents/spreadsheets for work and family photos on my primary hard drive that currently has home premium, I use the other partition for easy organization of all my games. So my question is that is there a way for me to install ultimate on that second 450GB partition and then delete windows boot files and everything from the other one to make ultimate the only bootable partition? If not then are there any cheap external drives, preferably eSATA, that I can use because I am on a budget?
i have a lg xnote that i got given to me because they didnt know what to do with it. when i turn it on it comes up as "harddisk security" and "primary master" and asks for a password that i dont have. i just want to wipe it or something?
I was playing guild wars 2 then my computer completely crashed, at first it wouldn't boot up. I reseated my memory and restarted my PC it started up but now it won't completely shut down, it just sits kinda at like a stand-by but you can't come off of it an you have to shut down the computer from the PSU.
I got a new desktop pc last aug. I installed WeatherBug on it as I have been using that program for years. Well it quit working about 2 months ago. Since then I have uninstalled and tried to reinstall at least 6 times. Uninstall seems to work well. Downloading the install program from WeatherBug.com seems to go well. Problem is: the install program seems to run appropriately, allowing personal preferences to be selected, but when the "finished" button is selected the flipping hourglass cursor functions for about 3 seconds then NOTHING. WeatherBug is listed in the start menu and "all programs"; but the same nothingness occurs when I select it from these 2 locations. Also, the only WB icon on the desktop is for the Install program. I'm using AVG Free Antivirus and the windows firewall. I can't seem to find whatever is blocking the fuctioning of WeatherBug.
Windows 7 Ultimate. Service pack 1 AMD Athlon IIx3 445 Processor, 3.1 GHz 4 GB RAM 64-bit OS
im at work and an employees machine is running windows 7 enterprise.. he says that almost everyday around this time (2-3pm est)that his computer completely slows down.when we opened task manager, windowindexer.exe keeps showing up. we went into services and stopped it and disabled it but it doesnt stop the problem and he is forced to hard boot to restart to make the problem go away. i am thinking it could be a malware issue so im downloading malware bytes .
Steam recently messed up on me last week. Now, I have to wait around five minutes to log in. If I click on anything while logging in, Steam will crash. The same thing happens while launching a game. I've looked all over and have found several ways to fix it, but none of them work. People tell me "Well don't click on anything and it wont crash and you'll be able to log in or play your game." That isn't the case. It never did that before, there is no reason it should do it now. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Steam, that did not fix the problem. I know most of the time when you uninstall something, it doesn't completely get rid of every file that it created or it installed. Most of the time, it just gets rid of the files that it installed in "Program Files" and/or "Program Files x86" and I want to erase everything, so I can try to do a clean installation of Steam. I'm talking about if there is any files left in my Registry or Appdata folder, I want them removed. So does anybody know of files that stay on your computer after it uninstalls? I already deleted a Valve folder that stayed in my Registry after uninstall. It was located at HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareValve
I've noticed many users are having this or a similar problem w/ shutting down or computer won't turn off completely, then restarts by itself! It has to be a hardware problem, but I haven't been able to find a definate solution to this prob which is plaguing my new computer and another one.
After I ran ComboFix, all my programs now receive an error message: Illegal opeertaion attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion. It doesn't matter what program I try to execute, I receive the same error message. I am also unable to start internet explorer on that computer. Is there some way to restore my computer to where it was before I ran combofix? I also can't get do a DOS prompt. I am running windows 7 64-bit.
brand new toshiba windows 7 home premium after installing updates it shuts down and wont turn back on will not indicate any battery charging or any lights it just dies
Past couple of months my computer has been slowing down/lagging. It seems to happen when I am streaming, sometimes it happens when I run a game. What it does is the screen completely freezes and the sound is like slowing down to make the voices/music incomprehensible. Sometimes it will recover and run normally again. Other times it will slow then completely stop working, in which time I have to hard shutdown the computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both of my browsers, chrome and firefox. (And when I say uninstall I mean I did a complete wipe of all registry items and anything related to the programs). That seemed to work for about a month and then today my computer lagged then stopped working.

I left my computer idle for a few hours, in which the computer was supposed to hibernate, but it locked up before it could complete that task. I couldn't get it out of this state without resetting the computer. If I reset the computer, all my work will be lost completely unless saved.List of things I've tried:Wiggling the mouse Pressing the spacebar Pressing a bucnh of other keys Turning the moniter off and back on again Checking the cables to see if they were plugged in Unpluging and plugging in the moniter cable, mouse cable and keyboard cable List of things I reconsidered:Hardbooting the computer Restart the computer Use Remote Desktop from another computer Doing an advanced recovery* * This is very dangerous to your work, so make sure you back it up first!
I have a custom built computer that i finished almost a year ago then bout 3 months ago, it start shutting down completely while I was playing The Old Republic no Blue Screens. I thought at first since it was just shutting down and not BSODing it was either my GPU or PSU, I have now replaced both with pretty decent upgrades, and booted some games like counter strike source, minecraft, orcs must die, and still happens.
I'm well aware that you can boot from the CD and do a quick format during Windows 7 installation, but that's not what I need. I want wipe the disk in it's entirety before installing Windows. I'm getting some weird messages about disk errors during start-up and the EVGA tech support suggested that my last fresh install (done earlier today) didn't remove everything that was on the hard drive. I can't remember what he called it, but he said it could be less than a kb and cause the motherboard to try and boot from a partition that doesn't exist, giving me the errors. Is there some kind of formatting utility I can burn to a disc and wipe my local disk with?
I have the original discs supplied to me by acer, had to zero out the new HDD because their tech didn't know what they were doing. So now how do I and what is the partition size? acer aspire 5750-completely restore computer to factory default settings on new HDD what is the % of OS partition size (100% is default) but 100gb is minimum for windows (about 40%)
About three months ago I built a new PC but with trying to keep in budget I opted to use my dads windows 7 CD and bought a code online. Recentley though it failed and after googling I found that this was probably a trial version. I have now bought a retail copy and thought I would get an SSD as I did want to get one origanlly but again couldnt get it into my budget.Basically I have alot of stuff I dont want to keep on there ( I will transfer all of my music, steam games etc onto an external hdd) so would like to do a fresh install of windows onto the SSD and completley wipe the HDD so it can just be used for storage.
I had encountered problems with my laptop and wanted to start a fresh so I tried to install windows seven again and got all the way through the installation up until the completing installation phase then after about fourty minutesi received an error of what I beleive said windows has encountered a problem restart the computer and restart the installation and when i tried to boot I got an error after the setup is starting services screen that says the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error windows installation cannot proceed, and when I restart I get stuck in this loop, I have my bios set to boot from cd drive but if I do not press any buttons it shows four different windows 7 listed, I am completely stuck in what to do, i have a dell Inspiron N5030.
I have a Dell XPS 13 that came with Vista home. I later upgraded to Windows 7 home. The computer began to have intermittent lock up and video failures so I decided to wipe the drive and do a clean install of Windows 7. Now I can't activate windows 7. Since I upgraded this legitimently I should be able to reactivate my system.
I'm considering installing FreeNAS on my laptop, but I was wondering, would it be possible to reinstall Win 7 if I didn't like FreeNAS, or would I have to buy an OEM disc?
I have a new laptop on its way and my friend suggested for me to to a clean wipe/format and then reinstall Windows 7 so that all the useless softwares that comes with the laptop can be deleted and I can have a fresh start with the laptop. So my questions are considering my situation, which would be better, to wipe or format? And what are the procedures for the doing so, and also reinstalling Windows 7?
I have a co-worker that brought in his Acer notebook. It is running Windows 7 loads but only will show the background. Nothing else will show. When trying to do a repair it locks up the repair every time. Does the same thing if I try to install Windows again.
