Benefit To Using This New Function That ASUS Is Offering With Quad Core?

Sep 25, 2011

I recently updated my mobo's bios and with the update I now see this "press F4 to use ACC". I have an AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE CPU. Is there any benefit to using this new function that ASUS is offering with my quad core.

Upgrade From Dual Core To Quad Core?

Nov 9, 2010

QX9650, quad core, task manager, cpu-z, cpu-id, shows showing only 2 two cores.I recently upgraded an Intel E8500 to a QX9650 and had the problem of Windows 7 only showing 2 of the 4 cores. It took a few frustrating hours to find the solution, but I got there in the end without the need for a Windows re-install.

1st: You must have Windows 7 Professional. Home Premium does not support more than 2 cores. Upgrade to Pro.

2nd: If Task manager and CPU-Z are only showing 2 cores, you'll be feeling pretty confused, right?

Go to Start-->Run, type MSCONFIG.Under the BOOT tab, click 'Advanced Options'.In the top left corner it says "Number of Processors" (you'll have been here already and it says '2').Uncheck this and do a reboot. This solved my hours of confusion. Now I have 4 cores in Task Manager, CPU-Z and all is well.If all this fails, then get yourself set up for an OS reinstall; that should get you where you want to be.

Quad Core Processor Only Running On One Core?

Jul 3, 2012

I'm having an issue with my CPU. It seems that it is only using one of its cores. This issue first became apparent to me when I was trying to run Blacklight Retribution. It popped up a warning message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements of have at least a dual core. And indeed the game was unplayable, with single digit fps constantly. However when i go to the performance tab of my task manager it shows 4 graphs, meaning that 4 cores must be running. Then I go the boot tab of my systems configuration, click on advanced options and underneath the "Number of Processors:" check box (which is unchecked), it shows 1 as the number of processors. My processor is an Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz.

Video Converter With Quad Core Support?

Jan 9, 2013

Basically, I do a lot of video converting since I'm always sending movies/tv shows to devices like PS3, Playbook, Xbox and some other stuff. Most of the converters I've found support only single core CPU's and take an hour or so to convert, I was wondering if there are any conversion tools that support more than one core and would be much faster than standard converters?

How To Properly Benefit From SSD With Clean Windows 7

May 27, 2012

I am going to build a new system. It will have a 120gb ssd and 1tb hdd.I usually use the computer for various graphic programs and gaming. Until now i used to have only hdds on my systems, I used to partition them usually like this: c:windows d:various program files and user folder e:graphic programs and their scratch f:games g:storage (projects, videos, pictures, etc).I have decided to get an ssd drive now because I understand that it boosts the overall performance of the system. All the other information that I read about ssd was either irrelevant or too complicated to understand.I am looking for an advise on my new build. Obviously I will use the new hdd for storage but about what I should do with the ssd I am not entirely sure.should I make partitions on it or this will affect the performance? except for the win system files what should I put on it? Will graphic programs or games benefit from that or should I install them on the hdd?I also read that I should put the temp folders on the hdd for brtter performance is it correct?

Will 32 Bit Legacy Program Benefit From A Cpu Upgrade

Mar 13, 2012

I'm running a 32 bit windows point of sale application in one of the family run business stores. The PC has a athlon xp 2000+ and 128MB RAM and has WinXP as the OS. The program developer in his latest requirements says a pentium class 1.5ghz processor is a minimum with 1.5GB RAM. I want to know if it is worth the upgrade to an i3 with 4 or 8 GB of memory and Win 7. Is there a way I can measure the increase? The program has a foxpro database as the backend.

Windows 7 Only Offering Low Quality Default Format Audio Settings

Oct 31, 2012

for some reason, my windows 7 is only offering two types of default format for my usb audio device driver; telephone quality and tape recorder quality.

obviously both of these are shockingly bad. the thing that makes it worse is that i have just brought a brand new usb desktop microphone (logitech usb desktop microphone) and windows is only offering the same settings as my old webcam microphone (and it sounds just as bad).

there is one thing i am confused about though: in this video; logitech usb desktop microphone working on windows 7 64bit - Internet

the guy is using windows 7 64-bit (same as me) but he has the option to increase the audio quality to dvd quality. it's the same exact microphone, same windows and appears to be the same driver. i'm running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit so it should include all of the drivers, yes?

logitech doesn't offer any drivers and the guy in the video mysteriously has the same driver but has more options than me. the microphone is just as useless with loud echos and the like as my old webcam microphone.

Windows 7 X64 Ultimate Using Only One Core Of T5600 Core 2 Duo

Jul 28, 2010

I'm having is that I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate (from XP Ultimate) and the computer was working really slowly.

First I opened task manager and found only one CPU was being monitored, there was only one window for one CPU, not two windows with only one firing!

This I found strange, checked the WEI and my processor got a 2.3 rating (its a Core 2 Duo @ 1,83Mhz, a T5600), I then downloaded a tone of widgets to check if they could "see" the other core, nothing. I went into msconfig, the no. of processors box is unchecked, if I check it, the drop down menu only gives me the option of picking 1 CPU.

using Vista, but I can't seem to be able to use his fix: [URL] (bottom of page, can't find the HAL detection checkbox)

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on an HP nx9420 laptop with 3GB of RAM, a new HDD (250GB), the old one just stopped working really, and the Core 2 Duo T5600 @ 1,83Mhz that is running only one core.

32, 64 Bit And Dual Quad CPU

Nov 2, 2009

I have the 32 bit Windows 7 on my computer because it seems to work better than the 64 bit. However like any computer geek I want the 64 bit and with a removable Hard Drive I can put the 64 bit on the other Hard Drive. Once I get tired of my 32 bit I'm sure I'll build the 64 bit but once I do this I don't think Microsoft is going to like it if I plug in my 32 bit once I register the 64 bit? What do you think?

Now I want to build a new computer but what good is the quad? Does any software run on it using all 4 CPU's?

What's The Benefit Of UEFI And Install Windows 7 In UEFI Mode

Aug 13, 2012

I recently just build a new setup with Asus P8Z77-V LK, this motherboard comes with UEFI boot and legacy BIOS boot support. So I tested install windows 7 in both mode, and I didn't find any advantage of UEFI consider it is a new technology been promoted quite a lot for recent years. The benefit I found is: a graphic BIOS setup, which is useless to most users if you don't OC. Even you did, I still find using keyboard to navigate through the menu is much easier than mouse.Faster boot time? very negligible, could be 31 seconds compare to 28 seconds. As I timed use my stopwatch, the value could include a few seconds human error as well.Support boot from > 2.2TB HDD? nowadays most user use SSD as boot drive so this really doesn't matter.GPT disk partition? don't see any benefit here compare to legacy MBR...

Changing The MBR In Windows 7 Pursuant To A Quad Boot?

Jul 10, 2012

I have an Asus X64 desktop machine. Last year I formatted the [1 terabyte] hard drive for a clean install of X64 Windows 7 Ultimate. I tried numerous times to install the X64 Windows 7 Ultimate, but it was a no-go. I ended up installing the X86 Windows 7 Ultimate on my X64 machine instead. Since then I have corrected the problem(s) preventing me from installing the X64 Windows 7 Ultimate. So, long story short. I am duel booting two versions of Windows 7 Ultimate utilizing two partitions. I prefer the X64 as I have 8 GB's of RAM and the X86 only recognizes 4 GB's.

In addition to that I have a third partition with Windows Developer Preview. I can also boot into Ubuntu 12.4 although I did not specifically create a separate partition for that OS.

So, I'm quad-booting. I've decided to eliminate all partitions, go back to a single hard disk, and begin utilizing VMWare Workstation 8 for any and all other OS's. But my problem is I don't quite understand the MBR fully. I wish to keep my X64 Windows 7 Ultimate but it was the second OS installed behind the X86 Windows 7 Ultimate.

I guess what I am asking, "Is there a way to get the MBR to reflect the X64 Windows 7 Ultimate so that I can format and delete the partition of the first installed OS?"
