Windows 7 Forgets Wireless Settings?
Sep 11, 2012
Every time I boot the PC I have to re-enter my wireless connection settings as it forgets them from the previous session. I do this by going to Manage wireless networks in the Network and sharing center and clicking Add - Manually create a network profile. Then complete the rest of the form including both tick boxes (start automatically and even if not broadcasting). Then it all connects fine. But when I turn off and reboot I go back into Manage wireless networks and my network is no longer there. Extra info:Running Win 7 x64 professional.Using a nano Edimax wireless usb dongle. The network I connect to has WEP security and has a hidden SSID.My previous network from another router I cant delete from Manage wireless networks. It disappears till I reboot then its there again.I can only connect to the network by adding it manually. If I try and connect using the icon on the toolbar and selecting 'Other network' then entering the SSID and password it wont connect.

y Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (version 6.1, build 7601, service pack 1) forgets the "Allow this device to wake the computer" settings made for my usb keyboard and mouse after a few sleep/resume cycles.
Here is what I do and experience:
Go to "Device manager" -> Right click on a device (HID keyboard, HID mouse or similar) and click "Properties" -> Go to "Power Management" tab" -> Enable "Allow this device to wake the computer" ->Click "Ok" -> Close "Device manager".
Then after putting the computer to sleep and waking it (with either mouse or keyboard) 2-3 times the "Allow this device to wake the computer" first gets disabled for the keyboard and then a few cycles later for the mouse.
It reproducible for me with my setup. Same thing happens every time the above is done. It also happens regardless of whether "USB selective suspend setting" is enabled or disabled. It is also independent of "Allow keyboard wake" setting in BIOS.
Also when waking from sleep (after moving the mouse, pressing the keyboard or pressing the case power button) both mouse and keyboard are not recognized. Then after 5-10 sec the usb-device-found sound is played and the mouse start responding. Then after a futher 5-40sec the keyboard starts responding. This might be related or it might not be. It could be that the setting is lost when the keyboard is not recognized/recognized again. On the other hand, testing this by simply unplugging the keyboard while in Windows, the setting is not forgot.
So to sum up: After a couple of sleep/resume cycles, I am unable to wake my computer by mouse or keyboard because the settings gets disabled. Later today I'll see if it is persistent over a reinstall of Windows.
Aditional info:
Motherboard: GA-Z77X-UD3H
All windows updates installed

My home built HTPC is based on Asus M2n-SLI mobo and ATI Radeon HD 5450 video card with HDMI out to Onkyo 7.1 receiver which passes video and audio via HDMI to Olevia 36 inch LCD TV. PC (ATI card)-- HDMI out --> stereo receiver -- HDMI out --> TV The HTPC is never turned off. When I turn on the receiver and TV components to watch TV, Win 7 (Home Premium, 64 bit) will mute the system. I cannot just unmute. I have to go into Control Panel > Sound. There I find only one option (expected): AMD HDMI output. When I right click and choose Test option, it works just fine. I make no changes to the configuration and the sound/speaker icon in the system tray is normal. Then I open Media Center and everything works fine. When I'm done watching TV, I turn off the receiver and TV. When I start another session, the problem is back.I did not have this problem with an older receiver but using completely different component connections. PC -- HDMI out --> TV -- audio out --> old stereo receiver.

Brand new HP Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium machine just out of the box. Shipped with a dial-up modem and NO wireless adapter (DUH!). Installed an EnGenius USB wireless adapter which set up without a hitch. Went through the process of connecting to the internet. Was able to get online and surf-- no problems.
The problem is that Windows 7 will not retain the wireless settings, and EVERY SINGLE TIME that I boot up the machine I have to go through the WHOLE PROCESS of opening Network Sharing Center, searching for my wireless home network, typing in the security code, and establishing the connection ONCE AGAIN. Why won't Windows 7 remember the wireless settings??? This is most frustrating! IF I open the "Manage Wireless Networks" panel there are NO NETWORKS listed! I have run Windows update.

As stated in the object everytime Windows gets loaded it always forgets somethings in my wireless LAN connection settings.Either everything is set with automatic IP address (and I actually use TCP/IPv4 manual IP address + DHCP disabled in the DSL router) and automatic DNS addresses, or (if set on manual as it should be) something is randomly missing (i.e. the Gateway, the DNS address, etc., etc.).When rebooting I don't have the feeling that a task is force-closed or that something crashed so there should be no accidental loss of data (?).I use Kaspersky Pure v2.x + Webroot Spy Sweeper (this one with LAN control disabled).

One of the biggest annoyances when setting up wireless networks is remembering the security key and typing it correctly so that you can connect all laptops and netbooks to it. Windows 7 makes it easy to export your wireless settings from one machine to another.
The backup of the wireless networks settings can be easily done from Windows 7, and the settings can be saved to a USB stick, and then the settings can be imported on laptops & netbooks running Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

I had an issue with my laptop,it crashed on blue screen and for some reason would not re-start - The only thing that I could do was to reset my laptop to it's factory settings.Since I have done this.I can't seem to find any wireless access points and cannot connect to my wireless router - the onlt way i can connect is through wired connection.I have tried to enable wirless by pressing my F8 key which stated that wireless is on but on programmes it says that no wireless is enabled - its like i've lost wireless altogether?

Now, just 3 days ago It started the BSOD issue.I realize that my GPU was the cause of this issue. When playing games or open 3d applications the temp goes 30C to 72C (In 15 seconds) then 82C - 85C constant (in about 30 seconds). Now I've been using MSI afterburner to check my temps and at fulload my GPU will be at 62-72C max temperature but now it's 10C even higher then before. No, I haven't fiddled with the voltage I set the GPU voltage to 1.037v which is the safest (been running this almost 8 months!). The GPU is the GTX 560ti.Is there a way to set the GPU on default settings or reset GPU settings in cmd or other professional way. I have uninstalled the drivers, uninstalling GPU, disabled GPU, disabled PCI-E slot and so on by using device manager and the issue still persist. Yes, I also have clean the GPU perfectly and still the temperature goes up to 82 seconds at 30seconds-45seconds. Yes, I have checked everything is set correctly and so on, I am a PC Tech.
Is the GPU damaged? Yes I have looked at this thread: Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try Mainly, I know its the GPU straight away, I tried checking old drivers, new drivers, another GPU overclocked software such as GPU tweak and EVGA Precision. I am thinking it's the GPU is damaged or the PCI-E is damaged (I have another PCI-E slot on my system and the issue still there). It might be the PCI-E frequency? but it's set to 100 which it meant to be, I just hope is software related because I don't have the money to buy a new card. Did the dump files help?

In a few days time I will be changing my ISP in the UK from Sky to BT.
BT are providing me with their newest wireless router free of charge as part of the deal and I'll be using that to set up my wireless network, which will consist of an HP Pavilion desktop, a Toshiba laptop, a Sony Vaio laptop, an HP wireless printer and a Samsung HDTV.
This means my Sky wireless router is surplus to requirements, so I was wondering if I could convert it to a wireless access point to improve the range of my BT wireless network.
I've read a couple of supposedly easy-to-understand articles on Google and have to say they left me more confused than ever.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop and stuck windows 7 RTM 32 bit on it. All was well but now connecting wirelessly is slow. Like slower then 56k modem slow. I have a Dell 802.11n wireless mini card installed that works PERFECTLY under windows XP. I was getting 80 % signal strength under Win 7 and getting 1 mbps where as in XP I was getting 78 to 100 mbps with the same signal strength. Oh and ethernet works perfectly fine.
For a time I was able to download the corresponding vista driver from dell and then replace the driver that win 7 automatically installs for it, then flipped the card switch off and on and it would work like it should for a while, but then reverted to the same slow network speeds once the laptop was reset or turned off and on. Now flipping the switch or re-installing doesn't work either. I've tried resetting the router, no go and none of my other computers or products have a problem with it. I've tried doing a few things suggested in other posts, like assigning a static ip, disabling ipv6, etc... Nothing has worked.
I'd love someone who knows what it may be or has heard of this precise problem, although I think I may be stuck waiting until Win 7 makes it debut in Oct and until Dell releases a proper 7 driver for it.

I'd like to get some input from Windows 7 users regarding the User Account Control (UAC) feature, whether you use it or not (and why/why not if you choose to add) and opinions on it's usefulness, effectiveness, etc. and of course, whether you find it just plain annoying.
