Nov 26, 2012I had 2 computers last week with auto updates on, mcafee vse 8.7i enterprise administered through epo. get a failure to authenticate windows. Ran MS offline scanner, no malware, multiple warnings not a legal windows installation, update fails, system restore fails, then reboot and bsod. No f8 for safe mode. The only 2 win 7 computers with auto updates turned on exhibited this behavior. Complete reinstall of course, anyone else have the same problem?

The goal: I want a way to force Windows 7 Pro to forget the authentication and ask for a new authentication next time an access is attempted for that share. Here's what I have tried, and what has not worked: Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Disconnect Network Drive (it doesn't work because there is no mapped network drive to disconnect; next connection attempt does not ask for authentication) From command prompt (run As administrator): rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr -- Then select any network share to clear credentials for, then click delete button. (no network shares listed; next connection attempt does not ask for authentication)

Go to advanced tab, click on manage passwords. This brings up the credential manager (can also get to credential manager directly from control panel). Find credentials to delete (windows, certificate-based, or generic) - there are currently none listed, though there had been earlier, and all were deleted. No change; next connection attempt does not ask for authentication. From command prompt (run As administrator): secpol.msc
Go to security settings -> local policies -> security options -> Network access: Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication.
Enable it. Exit and reboot. No change; next connection attempt does not ask for authentication. I have tried all of these with or without rebooting immediately after.

I have a home office network with a Debian Linux server, which I'm using as a calendar/file/print server, two Linux laptops, one XP machine and one laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium, which came preinstalled on the laptop.When I try to access the shares on the Debian machine, I keep getting authentication failures. I've tried my Windows username/password, my Linux username/password, and even created new users on both systems to try different solutions. All the computers are able to print through the Debian server. However, file sharing using the Debian machine as a Samba server does not work on the Windows 7 laptop. It works fine with all the other computers in the house. I've tried a registry hack, setting LMCompatibilityLevel to both 1 and 2, checked and rechecked my Samba configuration, even tried resetting the clock?

Mar 6, 2009I am able to connect from XP to a network share at my workplace by giving login/password. However, when I try to connect from Windows 7 i get the error: "specified authentication package is unknown"
However, I am able to connect to another shares. From XP no one is having any problems in connecting to this share at all. Have googled but to no avail. Found one suggestion to add 'authentication packages' key to registry but it was already present in my Win 7 and with the correct value.
Any help would be appreciated as I am at my wits end with this issue. Win 7 is working flawlessly otherwise. Much much better than XP. Vista was pretty much unusable on my laptop (HP TC 4400 tabletpc)

Sep 29, 2011I am having some 590 gtx problems and I believe it is just a bad card but I wanted to post it on here and get an opinion from some others. First things first,bought the card brand new about 2 weeks ago. When I got the card I put it in boot up windows and got the newest drivers for the 590 gtx. After the installation was complete I restarted windows, when I booted back up and tried running the nvidia control center it said "You are not currently using a displayed attached to a nvidia GPU." I thought this was weird so went into display manager and looked and saw that the 590 gtx was there but was reading "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)." After this I clean uninstall all the drivers and started installing other drivers. This problem occurred for every driver set except for the drivers that came with the installation disc which I believe are the 267.xx drivers.Thus worked and I was able to run the nvidia control center and utilize the 590, after about 10 mins i got a BSOD with a BCCode 116. After some research I realized that the error I was getting was because of failure to connect with the video card due to hardware or software issues so it timed out,thus causing the BSOD. This continued to happen every 10 to 15mins on these drivers. I have to mention this is over the course of 3 clean re-formats of windows 7. Also I stuck my old video card in which is a Radeon HD 4750 x2 and worked fine and is what I have been using on this system since I built it 3 weeks ago.

Jan 19, 2010In the last few months I have been getting error messages in my Yahoo mail account. It will not go to next email and returns an 'Error Code 5' or recently an 'Error Code 15'. Jan 8, 2012It ran in safe mode with networking so I was able to email all of the files I wanted WHEW! That was until today and now it won't load to any screen except for the screen that gives you the choice to repair, or to run windows normally. Either one brings me to the login screen but the login never comes up. The screen just sits there with the mouse. I have a dell inspiron, that we purchased 1 year and 1 month ago ergh! This means that the warranty is out. I have read so many forums, and tried to launch repair and it just won't do it. Dell won't send me a new recovery disk because I don't have the warranty anymore, but rather as others have stated Dell states that it is the hard drive as an easy answer. I don't believe it. Why does it load in safe mode, well except for today? I just need my laptop to be working. It is a life line in my house. From the things I have read on here it could be a virus or malware issue that is corrupting the boot sector. But I don't know what else to do about repairing it. The installation cds are not working. I have used f8 to load from the disk drive and it got to the starting set up and stopped.

My question is, how do I get Windows 7, do i download it off the net? He had every disk, from xp to 7, burned so we could use it for install..is this possible in the real world? My friend cannot afford to purchase a new license.

About 4yrs ago I switched entirely to Linux due to the general instability and speed of my XP systems.
I have one valid XP licence from a Dell laptop now running Ubuntu but daughter No1 has used Windows 7 elsewhere and now wants it on her own homebuilt desktop.
Not being one for conflict I have agreed but here's my question.
Can I use the licence from my Dell laptop with an upgrade edition of Windows 7 on a clean install on the homebuilt desktop which has never had any version of Windows on it.
The Dell laptop runs Ubuntu and always will so I'm using a valid licence just on another machine, it seems an honest thing to do at least in my mind.
