Win 7 Clean Install
I am currently running build 7600 of Windows 7, I did a clean install without formatting the drive over windows vista premium 64bit and then removed the windows.old folder via the directions found on this board. My question is, that when I download my copy of Windows 7 off of digitalriver (I'm a college student) what is it I need to do in order to have a clean install? I've heard numerous reports that say I wouldn't have to install anything because build 7600 is the final version, and all I would need to do is enter the product key given on my upgrade version.

Clean Win 7 RC Install Keeps Rebooting
after doing a fresh Windows 7 RC 64bit install, after carefully removing the old Beta, my pc gets rebooted shortly after the Windows 7 logo. If I try safe mode it does this after it loaded disk.sys. Maybe the 64bit XP drivers for my old Dell Cerc Sata 1.5/6ch raid controller are to blame? If I remember correctly they worked perfectly fine with the Beta version and they do work during install obviously. Any idea where I can find some more logs about a possible reason for the reboots?

i have the Windows 7 Enterprise trial installed, i will be receiving soon a Windows 7 Upgrade Disc. I know i have to have a valid Windows installation to perform a clean install using the Windows 7 upgrade media would the Windows 7 Enterprise trial qualify as a valid Windows install? Allowing me to use the Windows 7 upgrade media to do a clean install or would i have to revert to a Vista installation before attempting a clean install with Windows 7 upgrade media?

Win 7 64 Bit Upgrade Different From Clean Install ?
i like fresh installs on a Zeroed hard drive. i got win7 64bit but its an upgrade disk only. i have legit xp64bit right now. my question is this. the option that says " all information will be lost" or something like that is that a fresh install where it formats the drive and then installs a fresh windows 7 install? or does it just convert the old files and like a normal install?

Backup Data Before Win 7 Clean Install
when Windows 7 comes out retail I want to install it. do not want to have to manually install every program n file currently on my vista 64 bit system. what is a good way to save my current setup so I can just reinstall it to the new Windows 7 system? I have an external HD 500gb I can use. searched the files here for information perhaps i am not using the correct search terms n phrases. I know before I back up current vista I need to purge it n slim down the files n programs lol.

Clean Win 7 RC Install Asks For CD/DVD Drivers
I don't get any BSODs, and I don't get as far as any stages, just the Install button in the middle of the screen.The program starts to install and then comes up with the message "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing... " It asks me to browse for the driver but I haven't a clue where on the DVD I'm supposed to find it. I've tried putting my motherboard driver CD into the other drive but I don't know where the CD/DVD drive device drivers are on it. This happens no matter which of the two DVD drives on this computer I use.Â

Win 7 Stuck In An Infinite Boot Loop After Clean Install
I just installed Windows 7 Pro x64 (acquired from MSDN) on a clean RAID0 array (more on this later). The install went off more or less without a hitch, except that the computer is now stuck in a reboot loop: it starts up, and everything is fine until it hits the "Starting Windows" splash screen. It hangs there for a moment and then restarts, only to start the whole process over again. Booting in safe mode doesn't help; it reboots on the splash just as happily. I ran Startup Repair from the Win7 disc, but it threw no errors (it says that the root cause of my problem was that the system booted up correctly...) and said that it couldn't fix it.

Win 7 Clean Install Won't Detect SATA Drive
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my desktop that is currently running Vista and XP on a dual boot. I want to eliminate the dual boot and do a clean install with Windows 7. I have a Western Digital SATA drive WD2500KS. If I try to install "custom" it will not detect the drive and wants to load drivers. If I try to upgrade it shows the drive and both partitions and want's to know which partition. I ran the Windows 7 compatibility program and it shows the drive and no issues pertaining to installation. How do I get a clean install to recognize the hard drive? Processor is Intel Core2 Quad CPU 2.4 Ghz.

I did an in place upgrade of Windows 7 home premium and I am thinking about trying to do a clean install since the start up time after the upgrade is brutal (about 10 minutes). Upgrade Install Fails, Clean Install Is Fine - Same Hardware
When I try to do an upgrade install (from Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit) it always fails toward the end of "migrating files, settings and programs" at about the 57% mark. The program says that it needs to reboot.The screen goes blank and it looks like it is rebooting, however the PC just sits there, the monitor goes to sleep (no video - either analog or DVI) so there is apparently not even a BIOS screen. There is no drive activity, yet the PC is still powered on. If I power off and on (or use the reset button), Windows 7 starts to load but eventually blue screens with the STOP error 0x0000007B, followed by (0x80598B68, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I know that the first error code usually refers to an inacessible boot disc. After several tries, it lets me boot, but just tells me that the install failed and is rolling back to Vista, which it does (rather well, I must say).However, if I do a "clean" install (whether or not choose to let Windows 7 wipe out the existing Vista partition), the install completes flawlessly.Apparently, Windows 7 is having problems migrating something (perhaps drivers?) from the existing Vista installation, but I don't know what. I've tried uninstalling a few various programs and hardware devices and their associated drives to no avail. Luckily, all of this testing is on a cloned drive, so no permanant damage.The hardware is exactly the same whether I do the upgrade or clean install. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas.Â

Better To Upgrade Install Or Clean Install ?
I'm finding this decision quite hard to decide on and can't decide what to do. I am very picky about wasted space or unnecessary stuff on my hard drive, yet I'd rather not install everything all over again which will take about 20 hours or so. My question is...if I do an upgrade-install, can I just delete everything in the Windows.old folder and have everything practically the same as a clean install? Or will there be still be some left over things from the hundreds of programs I've installed and uninstalled? Edit: I've ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and everything seems ok.

Clean Install Onto New Drive
I have Windows 7 rc running on one of my 2 ide drives, with XP on an SATA drive - dual booting. I purchased a 500gb SATA drive to replace the the 2 ide drives The plan is to: - connect the new drive while shutdown - boot into XP - Partition new drive, with the first partition active(with partition Magic). - Transfer non-OS partition data to the new ones - shut down and disconnect the ide drives - insert Windows 7 disc and perform install on first partion of new drive. I understand that the MBR is on the Windows 7 partition. Will I have any problems with the XP install, or will the new Windows 7 install create a new MBR to allow dual boot? I know I'll have issues with drive letters. But other than the XP, and Windows 7 partitions it's just data - no programs. Or, are there any other problems you see with my procedure?

Error During Clean Install
I have an old Dell XPS Gen2 desktop that is running WinXP. I wipped my Raid0 hard drives to perform the install of Windows7. After helping the setup see my raided hard drives, I started the install. After the second step in the installation process I keep getting an error message that says something like: "Windows could not configure your computer's boot sequence. The installation could not continue" Does anyone know what I'm missing? Could my bios be too out of date for this setup? or is it something else?

Can I Install RC As The Only OS On A Clean Computer ?
Can I install windows 7 RC and use as my only OS on a machine that has no other OS on it presently?The machine I have sitting here has a 2.4ghz p4 and 1gig ram so I am pretty sure it will suffice for testing. I am not sure what the "live environment" mentioned in the EULA means, any ansewers would be appreciated. Does that mean I cannot use it as an everyday system until I purchase the final product? Would it be better to run in a VM instead? Even tho I know not too much about VM's and deployment, I understand that it's sometimes better to use a VM so changes can be reverted. Lastly, should I install any video card, the drives I intend to use, NIC etc before I install on the machine? I have read on other posts (XP) that the way the WPA works and that changing too many hardware items after an install of the XP OS may cause a re-activation in the future. I also read that the NIC counts as 3 yes votes if it has not been changed so would it be better to put a PCI NIC card in instead of the onboard NIC?

How To Keep Old Programs After A Clean Install ?
I have a hewlett packard laptop with Vista 32 bit. I am installing Windows 7 home edition 32 bit. I have performed a backup of my files. My question is: I really want to perform a clean install but I did not receive any disk for my preloaded programs that came with my laptop when purchased. Some of those programs and games I really would like to keep. If I do a clean install of Windows 7 will I loose all of the preloaded programs that came with my laptop or will by restore backup put the items back on my computer?

Can you fresh install with an Upgrade version of Windows 7? I want to save some money by buying the Upgrade. However, if I have to install my old OS first then upgrade, that isn't really a clean install. I'm wondering if you simply have to prove you have an older Windows version so that you can upgrade, or if it literally has to be on the PC for it to work.
