What's Deal With WMPnetwk.exe

Aug 3, 2010

Only happened today. My fans started going at 100% when I wasn't at the computer. Had a look in resource monitor & saw that wmpnetwk.exe was using over 20% of the cpu.Didn't know what was going on so I rebooted. WMP started up again. This time I terminated it at the resource monitor. After a few seconds it started again.

How To Deal With Registry

Sep 25, 2012

I have been trying to understand the registry in windows 7. From what I read, the registry is the foundation of windows. Without those foundations, windows 7 could not work. How do i keep the registry keep and stable ? I came to the conclusion that it is impossible. Am i correct in saying that keeping the registry clean and stable is an impossible task ? Even more so secure. I am now using a piece of software that i bought to handle the registry for me. Once a week i run the software and once a week it corrects the errors that need to be corrected. In particular, i always have a lot of "COM/AcitveX/OLE" entries and "Empty Registry Keys". I do get "Empty Registry Keys". There are piece of software there were installed and then erased. When erased, some bits and pieces were left in the registry (something like that). What are COM/ActiveX/OLE ?Finally, I think WINDOWS is the most complex piece of software i have ever come across. I think it is so complex that an entire eco-system was built around it to make you shell out more cash:i.e. registry cleaner, anti-virus etc...

Wmpnetwk Gets 50% Of CPU

Mar 21, 2011

I run win 7 Home Premium in dual boot mode, 32 bit on one drive and 64bit on the other. Iether boot can access my modem and wireless router when running the Lan enables my notebook to share files with my desktop PC. The notebook is not present at the moment, but I noticed the wmpnetwk.exe is running all the time and is using 50% of CPU time, which slows other things down. The only way I can find to reduce this CPU usage is to turn off all sharing on both boots. The modem is a NetComm NB6 and the router a Dlink DI 524.

WMPNETWK.EXE Keeps Freezing The Laptop?

Nov 17, 2010

Having thought I had resolved my laptop with my RAM stuck on 95% after a few minutes, I now notice that when my Laptop freezes, the task manager shows that the process wmpnetwk.exe is running at around the 1.8gb - 2.4gb. I end the process and the laptop starts back up again, but after a few minutes, the process switches itself back on and the laptop freezes again. As a reminder, I am running Windows 7, have a 320gb hard drive and 3gb RAM. The problem looks like it is Windows Media but I cannot remove it as it is part of the Windows operating system. My laptop is a HP DV6-2020SA.
