I confirm that you can windows anytime upgrade from Home Premium (even not yet activated) to Professional using Digital River product key (of course for Professional edition).
The process takes less than 10 minutes and you don't need the Professional or Anytime Upgrade DVD. All the installed programs are intact.

I currently am running win 7 home premium upgrade. I purchased this upgrade and have the media. I also recently purchased win 7 professional upgrade. Both versions are 64 bit. I'd like to 'change' from my retail copy of home premium to my retail copy/key of professional. Any suggestions on how I can do this without a clean install? Can I simply 'enter new key'? Anytime Upgrade Key Available Through Technet Membership ?
I would like to test the upgrade, but I cannot find an upgrade key. For giggles, I tried a regular Windows 7 Ultimate key, but the "Anytime Upgrade" fails indicating that it's not valid. I'm sure there must be a special key, but I cannot find one on Technet in the Windows 7 Downloads section. If this key is not available. Can I perform a standard upgrade of the Win7 home box? So far, my efforts fail with Win7 displaying a messaging saying that the only way to upgrade a Win7 box to another version of Win7, is via the "anytime upgrade" option.

I purchased Windows 7 Professional through the Ultimate Steal. Downloaded it, put it on a disk also. It will go through the start of the setup and copy files etc, and then it will give an error and say to install from a current version of windows I need to use the upgrade anytim through windows. But when I go to upgrade anytime it asks for an upgrade key, but all I have with the purchase was a product key and it says that I can't use the product key. any help? edit: also i have windows 7 home premium installed right now and here is exactly what it says: "To upgrade from one edition of Windows 7 to another edition of Windows 7, use Windows Anytime Upgrade. Cancel the upgrade, open the Start menu, and search for Windows Anytime Upgrade. "

Digitalriver Student Promotion: Wrong Language Upgrade
I recently purchased Win7 x64 upgrade through the Canadian student promotion I got through e-mail. Download worked fine, everything worked fine until I started installing the upgrade... I got the promotional e-mail in English, my Vista version is French... Nothing in the e-mail and the purchasing process mentionned that there were multiple language versions... So now I can't upgrade since we can't upgrade fr-CA to en-CA... Anyway to get an fr-CA upgrade download in replacement? I sent 2 messages to digitalriver with my order number and never got any reply (that was a month ago).And a suggestion: the language issues should be clearly indicated on the website, I didn't even know I had an english-only version before I started installing it.

Anytime Upgrade Feature
A week or two ago there was a considerable amount of confusion concerning the Anytime upgrade. The people on the phone at MS insist they must send you a DVD in the mail. Windows 7 replies all you need to do is pay and get a key. The book Windows 7 inside and out says the same thing, but when you try to do that, at least this is what happened last week, the web site fails. I attribute this to the product being brand new and just one of the glitches that go along with a new roll out. Does anyone know if these issues have been clarified?

Anytime Upgrade And DVD Questions
If I understand concept of Windows Anytime Upgrade and Windows 7 installation correctly there is only one DVD medium and according to your key certain options get unlocked and you can use them. If this is true why are ISO images on TechNet different for each version (different in size and SHA1). Is it possible to jump over versions when doing upgrade, eg. can you go from Starter to Ultimate or do you first have to do upgrade to Home, then to Professional, etc. Is there somewhere on MS site upgrade matrix for Windows 7? I've found one on http://mossblog.allthingsd.com/20090804/deciphering-windows-7-upgrades-the-official-chart/ but I cant find it on MS site, working with computers and people, writing a little blog @ http://itpendium.wordpress.com just for fun.

I can not find the answer I wanted about the Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade. I ordered the Windows 7 Home Premium to Professional anytime upgrade and wanted to know the following: Does this mean that the next time I needed to reinstall Windows 7 on my laptop, I can use my Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade DVD and do a clean install by using the product key that came with the anytime upgrade? Windows Anytime Upgrade Risks?
I'm thinking of upgrading from 7 Professional to 7 Ultimate. I'd really like the ability to boot from a VHD. I've heard that Starter, Home Premium, and Professional, are all the same as Ultimate, they just have alot of features locked. Is this true? I'm also aware that an upgrade to 7 from Vista could bring system instability/slower performance, and I'd like to know if there are any risks by using WAU. Thoughts? Edit: After reading my post, I realize what I said might confuse some of you. I'm not wanting to upgrade from vista, I don't have vista. I was using that as an example.

I upgraded from Win XP to Win7 Pro, but used the 32bit disk. What do I need to do to upgrade using the 64bit version of Win7 pro, (both 32bit and 64bit upgrade disks were sent in my upgrade purchase). Works great but want to try the 64bit version. Issues With DigitalRiver And Making A Boot DVD
I decided to use DigitalRiver to download my copy of Windows 7 and I will NEVER use them again. They have no phone or tech support; the only way to contact them is by email, in which a response can take many days. It took me over 10 hours to download their download manager. While the DM seems to work OK, I keep getting the same error message near/at the end of the unpacking: "We are unable to create or save new files in the folder in which this application was downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write files and that the folder is not read-only" So while I wait for some intelligent response from them, I'm trying to create a bootable DVD but I'm not having any luck. I've tried using BurnAware and UltraISO yet every time I reboot, the DVD never boots...any ideas on exact steps to take?

Product Key Problem With MS Office Pro 2003
Old laptop monitor died and just bought a new HP with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. De-installed all of the unwanted pre-installed software (specifically MS Works and MS Office 2007 trial) that came on the computer. No problems noted with any of the de-installations. Started installing the apps I need. When I got to installing MS Office Pro 2003 (from original disks with original product key, which was used to install it on the old laptop), I get "invalid product key" when I enter the key very early in the installation and I have to cancel the install. What I have tried: 1. Tried over and over with product key (upper case, lower case, etc.) No success. 2. Took to my friend (also running WIndows 7 64 bit) and had him try to install the MS Office Pro 2003. He got past the product key problem fine when installing it on his system. Strange. I suspect something was "left over" when I de-installed the above mentioned MS products and that something is preventing my installation of MS Office Pro 2003. But what? More importantly, how do I get rid of it? I am considering re-installing Windows from the backup partition that HP provides, but then I will have to remove and replace all of my data and re-install all of my other apps. Any ideas?

Will Student Win 7 Pro 32-bit Key Work For 64-bit Later ?
My niece, who's in college ordered and downloaded Windows 7 Professional (one 32-bit and one 64-bit) from win741.com (Microsoft/Digital River deal for students only). I'm going to be installing this on her laptop (currently on Vista 32-bit going to ---> 7 Pro 32-bit), and her desktop (currently on Vista 32-bit going to ---> 7 Pro 64-bit via a clean custom install) this weekend. I'm also upgrading her desktop to 8GB of RAM since she uses this for Photoshop 64-bit and needs the extra memory for the times when she has several RAW D-SLR files and files with multiple layers open. Hence, the reason why we're using 64-bit on that desktop. We stayed with 32-bit on the laptop because they have old printers at her college that don't have 64-bit drivers, so to save her the hassle of incompatible drivers, we stayed with 32-bit on her laptop since it only has 2 GB of RAM. My Question is: If she decides to upgrade her RAM on her laptop later to 6GB, can she then use the 64-bit Windows 7 Pro installation (clean install of course) files she downloaded for her Desktop PC, but still continue to use the key she was given when she ordered & downloaded the 32-bit version?  I know this is possible with the Family Pack which provides 32-bit and 64-bit install CDs and just one key. Is the same possible for the student $30 download deal she got?

Why Upgrade From XP (Pro) ?
I run Windows 7 on my ex-Vista laptop, and would bite off someones hand if it I had to revert. But on my desktop, I dual boot XP and Windows 7, and am just as happy using XP as Windows 7. There are a few things I like prefer in Windows 7, but the same is true for XP. M$ is already charging me to replace the piece of @@@@ that was Vista with Windows 7, why would I want to pay to upgrade XP? And the Pro upgrade price is OUTRAGEOUS, especially as I am based I the UK.

I was to find that I couldn't do an in place upgrade from Vista Home Premium (64-bit) to 7 Professional (64-bit) after I'd already bought Professional. It seems that I can do an in place upgrade to either 7 HP or 7 Ultimate, but they skipped over Pro. Is there some workaround for this, or failing that some way to reliably back up my applications and data? I have already either upgraded the incompatible software, or uninstalled it, so I only have compatible software left on my Vista HP64 system.

Cant Upgrade From Home To Pro
I initially purchased and installed Home Premium on my machine. I then found an issue due to running files on a work PC that I am connected to with a VPN. So, my network admin sent me our corporate copy of Win 7 Pro to install. When I try to install it I get stopped during the process and I am told to use the Windows Anytime Upgrade. When I search and run the app it asks me to supply an Anytime Upgrade serial number or go online to buy an Anytime Upgrade. To upgrade to the Pro version it's like $85. Can't I just run the install and have it install what I need to make it a Pro version without having to do a clean install? How can I upgrade? When I had XP home a long time ago I was able to upgrade to Pro by just installing Pro on top of it. The serial numbers of the two versions are different because I had originally purchased and did a clean install with the Home version and then I got a new DVD and serial number for my work�s Pro version.

I've been running Win 7 rc1 (7100) ever since it came out. Should I buy Win 7 Pro or Win 7 Home upgrade? Which version would you buy? I have Vista Ultimate, but that was a joke and a waste.
