Unidentified Network When Connected To Xbox 360?
Oct 24, 2012
So I am trying to connect my Xbox 360 to my laptop's WiFi so I can access Xbox Live.
I have them connected via an Ethernet cable and I have media sharing turned on for my Xbox. I am also running Windows 7 Ultimate if that helps too.

Simply discribed: Can't establish a connection from my xbox360 to my PC. I'ts a direct connection and it should work like: xbox->PC->Gateway->Internet
I got it connected directly to the pc on Connection 1. On connection 2 is the gateway.
In the network sharing center the xbox on connection 1 is marked as "unidentified network". When I go to advanced sharing center, and check the full map of my connection 1 it shows me 1 hub, my PC and the XBOX!!
But, when I move over the XBOX with the pointer it says : IPv4 address: 0.0.0.0 and a MAC address which seems to be configured.
Well....I'm not even able to establish any connection from my XBOX to the PC. It simply says that its not connected to a PC or hasn't got a IP address from the PC.
I hope that some of you guys can help me out with this mess, I googled around the web and found no concrete solution to this problem.
btw, I'm using up to date nforce controllers, and Windows 7 64bit.

I decided to connect the xbox to my home network, but when I did so all of the shared files and folders got locked. Being locked I cannot watch the videos or play the music with manually unlocking them first. So is there a way to revert them back to their unlocked state? There has to be an easier way than manually doing it... because I have around 50GB of music... that would take an eternity. Here's a screenshot for reference: [URL].

I had Windows 7 32-bit running on a Dell PC. About one week ago, I noticed Internet connectivity was gone and that there was "limited connectivity" as I was now connected to an "unidentified network". The other systems on the network are still connected and working perfect; the problem is isolated to this one system. The network uses a static IP scheme. "IPCONFIG /ALL" shows that the IP is assigned, is included on the correct subnet and has the correct gateway and DNS information. I've tried a host of solutions suggested on forums; from "route delete 0.0.0.0" to disabling my firewall to configuring for a dynamic IP. Nothing has worked. Reluctantly, I resorted to a fresh install as I began to worry that I may have picked something up. I completely wiped the hard drive and did a fresh Windows 7 32-bit installation all only to have the same problem. I assume that the NIC is functioning as it accepts all IP settings.

Home network with Wifi and ethernet. Using 3x Notebooks and 3x workstations. One of the workstations (W7 ultimate) keeps changing between Public and Home. When this happens, the internet connection dies. I cannot see other workstations either when on public network. Workstation using wifi. Does the same on cable. When it changes to Public, it disconnects from the internet and I cannot get to the router even though it has the workstation has an IP(DHCP or static). Default gateway and subnet is correct. TCP v4 is being used and nothing else is enabled.
Why is this happening?
- I have tried DHCP as well as Static addresses
- Reconfigured NIC(Netgear WG311T), uninstalled and reinstalled it.
- Removed Wifi connection and re-added it.
- Changed auth type, encryption type and keys to connection
Have I covered everything? The only thing different is that I installed a new router - Duo Plus 300wr. It cannot be the router because all the other notebooks connect to it wireless and so does my iPad, Android device and tablet...so it rules that out?

Today, I managed to redecorate my bedroom; where my computer sat on top of a shaky, wooden desk. That desk is now gone, caput, and replaced by a much bigger, sturdier and prettier glass replacement. Before I dissasembled the computer to re-decorate, I was able to browse the internet at ease. There were no problems at all...However, after the new desk was setup - and all wires replaced in their correct slots, I find that I am unable to connect to the internet, or even the house's network! For the past year, I have been wired to the router using a RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It was plugged into an extension cord, in my room, into the Ethernet port in the back of my computer. Downstairs, it's twin was situated no less than 2 feet away from the router - plugged into the first port. Now, when I boot up the computer, the network notification presents the following message: "Unidentified Network. No network access", and sometimes presents a yellow ! next to it. So, I am reduced to typing on my mother's laptop - which has no problems connecting to the network.I am able to use the ipconfig /release command, but unable to use the /renew - it hangs in the command prompt, then tells me that the DHCP server cannot be located. The IP, beforehand, was reverted to 169.254.223.117 - before all of this, I was 192.168.0.5?

I just moved to a new home, and i cannot connect to my local LAN ! I am on a Mac right now ( arghh ) and the Internet works fine on this one.
I am using a cable to a router, wich is connected to a modem. The router is fairly old but has always worked fine ( using a direct cable doesnt work aswell ). Windows 7 says it is connected to a 'Unidentified Network'. The ipv4 settings for the adapter are; Automatic ip/dhcp.
ipconfig gives an ipv6 address. The automatically generated ip is: 169.254.241.20. There is nothing at Default Gateway. The driver settings are correct, as far as i believe. I downloaded the latest x64 Windows 7 marvell yukon drivers.
I disabled sleep mode on my pc. I don't have the Bonjour service running. On the Mac, i only had to enable DHCP and it recognized the network correctly. These are the ip's that it got:
ip: 83.87.107.135
subnet: 255.255.248.0
router: 83.87.104.1
This is getting frustrating since i cannot see where the problem could be.
here are my specs;
Asus p5w DH Deluxe
win 7 ( 7600 )
q6600
2 integrated network adapters on the mobo: Marvell Yukon 88E8053 pci-e Gigabit Ethernet Controller

I have 2 different laptops. both running Windows7 and connecting to the internet wirelessly. within a few days of each other they both began to display "Currently connected to: Unidentified network No network access" and they will not let me get on the internet. It is not my router becuase It shows the same thing no matter where I try to connect. I have tried my gym and a local restaurant that I have always had success connecting to before. Furthermore my WindowsXP desktop is directly connected and is connecting to the internet without any problems. My laptops are both running AVG for antivirus.

Yesterday it worked and when I booted today it didn't I have absolutely no idea what the problem is and I have checked everything I know with no use.
- I am using d-Lan (PowerLan) and have had no problems with it until today.
- My router, modem and the d-lan devices are functioning properly which I have tested multiple times so I'm sure the problem lies with my computer.
- I have tried Troubleshooting with no effect
- It isn't an IP conflict
- It isn't a 3rd party program (I started it in safe mode, same problem)
- Internet still works over my W-Lan but is incredibly slow and unstable

For boxing day, I bought myself a new Computer case, a Cooler Master HAF 932. After setting it up and booting my computer, without any problems, my Internet would not work.
I attached the Network & Sharing Centre screen to show you what it says. I've tried many things, switching cables, direct input from modem (I use a router), and all sorts of guides that have similar problems.

I have got a desktop computer and a laptop at my home. I have got a single internet connection. So I added an extra NIC card to my desktop PC. Then I connected my desktop to the internet and then connected my laptop and desktop using a crossover network cable. Both my machines have got win 7 installed. So when I created the network my laptop identified the network and allowed it to me to choose between home, work and public networks. I am able to share the internet too. But my desktop keeps on saying unidentified network which prevents me from joining my home-group.

Ive just installed Windows 7 7600 HP on to one of our work PC's and it says its connected to an unidentified network. I cant change it to work network or even Home network but the strange thing is its working fine. All our other PC's can see it and share files on it etc and i have internet access on it.
This is the second time ive installed HP and the second time this has happened. In the past ive been using Ultimate and this didn't happen.
We use static IP addresses for our internal network with no DNS server.
Anyone got any ideas how i can change this network location. Im using HP as im testing it out for when my copy arrives in Oct but if this is a problem related to HP i might think again.

about a week ago I started to get an unidentified network issue on my laptop.
here is how it basically works. I will see the network i want to connect to, and click on it. after which it will tell me that it is taking awhile finding the network, and then connect me to a unidentified public network. and it will tell me to the left of that that I am connected to the network I tried to connect to, but I have no Internet access.
I have tried turning the adapter off and on, restarting and I have deleted bonjour, (I think) and can't figure out what it might be. help please?

I just bought anew Acer Laptop with Windows 7. When I try to connect it to my home network it shows a good signal strength but it will not connect me to it. I get a box saying it is an Unidentified Network. We have gone through all the normal internet connection paths and reset the router. We are able to access an Iphone with no problem. WE took this laptop to my sons house and could not access his home network either. Receiving the same Unidentified Network message when we tried. We called Acer and they wanted us to pay for a remote access to this brand new laptop. We refused. We will take the laptop back to the store first because that is not right.

Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
ACER Aspire X3400
Nvidia Nforce 10/100/1000 ethernet
Cable internet
SB1502 Cable modem
When I try to connect to the internet, it just says "identifying" then says it is an "unidentified network". I've tried:
Resetting the modem
Checked all cables
Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers
Disabled & enabled the drivers
It's set to automatically connect to DNS
Updating the ethernet with the latest from Microsoft
Ran ipconfig /release and renew
Tried another modem and new cables
Tried other houses with DSL & Cable internet
I installed a USB wireless device which worked when I tested it in wireless areas. But so far nothing has worked for the wired part. At one point before all this started, the internet worked intermittently and would work at other houses perfectly. So I assumed it was my modem or connection at my house. But then I plugged another PC into my modem and it worked instantly. So I know there is no physical problem with my connection, modem or cables.

I decided to just post this as a new thread, as it appears to be getting positive results for most people. I highly recommend it anyway, as you will eventually encounter this if you apply all of your updates. For those of you reporting problems with your network after updating MS Office or installing Adobe CS3..If you are having Internet connection problems related to "Unidentified Network" showing and the "!" over your NIC icon, then this should take care of it: [code] If you do, stop it and disable it. It is actually the Bonjour DNS Responder Service, and I believe it is the cause of the "Unidentified Network."The Unidentified Network disappeared after stopping this service and a quick disable/enable of the NIC, restoring Internet access.I Actually just rebooted, edited this post, and then re-enabled the offensive service to see what would happen...Immediately after enabling the NIC and this bastard service, the "Unidentified Network" returned...stopped it, disabled it, disable/enable NIC...Internet back up and running and no "Unidentified Network." (woot - woot!)
I experienced this in both build 7100 and 7127...I am running 7127 now x64 - and discovered this fix just last night...so far so good just rebooted and then edited this post...I believe this fix will solve 7100 build issues too; however..I have not tested 7100 again yet.I also re-enabled Win 7's Discovery Mapping services, but always leave IPv6 disabled just because I am not using it.another two reboots, and a hard disk addition, and no problems with the Internet! - If you tried another fix such as changing the address of your network adapter, under "Advanced" - this is not necessary...I set mine back to "Not Configured." Everything is working fine as long as the Bonjour service is not running.. [code]

My computer had been working fine and while I was watching a movie on my computer the internet randomly gave out (wasn't streaming the movie or using the internet to watch it). Now I can't connect to the internet and it says that the network is Unidentified. I've tried a bunch of fixes such as uninstalling my drivers and letting windows reinstall them, changing my mac address, resetting the router, checked everything was plugged in, disable bonjour, tried releasing my ip and renewing it. I've tried so many things that have popped up on google that I have no idea what else to do. I don't want to reformat my computer if I can avoid it. If anyone has any idea I'd be so happy.I'm running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. Other computers on the network are able to connect to the internet and I can access files from other computers on the network.

This seems to be an old problem going back to win7's initial release yet people are still having the problem now. Everybody told me to install win7, "it's awesome", "everything just works", etc...and here I can't even get online.Anyway, what I can tell you is that I'm on a wired connection. Everything else connected to the same router works fine. I've got another computer running Vista, works fine. My xbox & ps3 both work fine. This computer that's having the problem was working fine when I was running XP and Vista on it. So it's clearly an issue with Windows 7.I've checked for the Bonjour service I saw mentioned in other threads, don't have it. The next thing I should probably try is assigning a static IP manually. I'm fuzzy on how to do that since I have no experience with win7.

As per a lot of other people on here, I'm having issues with connecting my desktop PC to my BigPond router. It will connect via wireless (have an installed D-Link DWA525 wireless card) but will not connect via LAN.I've changed the IP, DNS and Default gateways to the same as the other working PC's in the house, but still no luck. The mobo uses Realtek GBE Family PCI-E controllers, but for some reason it won't move off 10Mbps (even when I try to tell it to change this).I have tried new drivers, and have tried uninstalling drivers and letting windows install its own. None have worked. I've disabled V6, didn't work.My IPCONFIG ALL shows up the following: [code]

My problem is that i bought some 1gb belkin powerline adapters to give me a better connection in my house than my wireless previously did. However i plugged them in and boom "Unidentified Network - No internet access".Now at first i thought it was because i had them plugging in through and extension lead downstairs so i removed all than and plugged them straight into the wall. This didnt help at all.I read some forums about turning of IPV6 cos apparently.
