Unable To Switch Users
May 20, 2011When i attempt to switch users I have a screen displaying all of my user accounts but the cursor freezes and I can't use the mouse or keyboard. I must power down and then power up to reboot.

Switch Users Screen Popping Up?
May 26, 2011Whenever I start up my PC I am able to use all of my programs without incident, however when I open any web browser and start typing or following links my monitor goes blank. Then when I input anything the lockout/switch user screen pops up. I enter the password and everything resumes, but then I only get about 2 seconds to browse before the same screen pops up. This will happen over and over again and it's quite frustrating. I have scanned my computer with Malwarebytes and Spybot in normal and safe modes and neither found anything so I am usure what could be causing this.

Nov 21, 2009I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my system. Everything runs great except one thing. I'm not able to switch users like I used to on my Vista system. The 'switch user' is greyed out. I have 3 user accounts on my system. On my earlier Vista system, if i were to put the system in standby mode and then re-open it again, it would show me a password field (since that account was password protected) and a 'Switch User' button below the password field. However no such thing shows in Win 7. Both the vista and win 7 were home premium editions.

I am going to set a junction between C:Users on my SSD and F:Users on the HDD where my OS was originally. The instructions I have read indicate that I need to rename the C:Users folder in order to set the junction, since it will not work if there is still a folder named C:Users. However, there is no ""Rename" option available when I right-click on C:Users. In fact, several of the folders in the root directory of C: have no "Rename" option.

Aug 10, 2011Whenever I switch user accounts the computer will start the switch and then lock up with a display message that says no signal on the monitor. It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew.

Jan 30, 2011I just installed a new 64 gig SSD in my computer. I also have a 2T secondary hard drive.The SSD is not big enough to contain all the stuff that will eventually be in "My documents",i.e. under "users" so I need to move the users directory to my secondary hard drive but havewindows behave as it were in its original location.I did some research and found the following technique which seemed plausible (and several people said it worked for them)
1. Install windows normally.
2. After install, boot from installation disk.
3. Get into the command prompt by clicking "repair".
4. Use robocopy to copy c:users to d:users. The command line should be: robocopy c:users d:users /mir /xj /copyall
5. Verify all files copied successfully.
6. Delete c:users. Command line should be: rmdir /s /q c:users
7. Delete c:documents and settings. Command line should be: rmdir "c:documents and settings"
8. Create junction to new users directory. Command line should be: mklink /j c:users d:users
9. Create junction for the old "documents and settings". Command line should be: mkdir /j "c:documents and settings" d:users
10. Restart computer.
Note:When in recovery mode the disk drives end up with different drive letters than what the normally have.Consequently my SSD drive which is "C" became "E" and my hard drive which is "D" became "C". Confusing, but I adjusted the above commands to reflect this.All seemed to go well until I rebooted. The computer booted up fine, but when I entered my password to log in windows complained that it could not find my profile. Since I could not log in at all I was forced to re-install windows. Supposedly, this is doable and I NEED to do it asap as my SSD will not hold all the stuff that will eventually be in "users".
Show Processes From All Users, With No Other Users
May 4, 2011I am cleaning a laptop out and i created a brand new user name. I deleted the other 2 users using the control passwords2.
So the machine starts and i select the user. Process usage is very high and it says 50, but actual user shows about 9. I click show processes from all users and i find the culprit as well as 50 processes. I deleted the users so there shouldnt be that option.
Why is there more processes if this is the only user, why does it even have the option?

I just bought the 3 unit upgrade which contains both the 32 and the 64 bit discs. I have an AMD dual core that will process the 64 bit. I installed the 32 bit version. I need to run the current version of Photoshop and it only runs on 64 bit.Need to do a clean install and I have no problem with that since their are very few programs on the computer.My problem is I have a disk from the Reseller that says "Windows 7 Home Premium". Will that also carry the 64 bit version of the software?Also the disk says "Licensed for use with the "Registered Refurbisher". I did license the software when I got the computer.I ran the Windows 7 upgrade utility and it told me the 64 bit is OK to load.

This is the setup - One direct lan connection from router to A, then another lan on A is connected to a switch. B is also connected to a switch.

I know you need at least two drives to perform any RAID functions. When I tried to switch over the SATA drives in the BIOS from RAID to ACHI, windows failed to start. Oct 27, 2009Just a home user. Mostly gaming. Home oriented stuff includes Office XP (2002), and Quicken. The other main software I use is Adobe Premier Pro CS3 video software (includes Encore, the DVD writing program), and Visual Studio 2005.
My system, isn't the latest, but newer stuff isn't a lot faster yet:
Intel core 2 extreme X6800 (2.93ghz)
Intel D975XBX motherboard, 2GB 667 mhz 4-4-4-10 ddr2ram.
ATI HD4870 (PCI Express) video card, 512 MB ram
Sound Blaster X-Fi Plantinum
4 Segate 7200.12 500GB sata drives, paired into two striped virtual drives via BIOS.
1 Seagate ??? 250gb IDE drive, used only for boot up.
All drives have multiple partitions.
Windows XP SP3 is installed on a partition on one of the striped sata drives.
Windows XP X64 is installed on a partition on the ide drive.
The second pair of drives are used for swap files, temp files, and backup.
There's also a USB drive I use for backup.
Each instance of OS is used to backup the "other" OS partition, and also I use X64 for for some 64 bit programming with Visual Studio 2005.
Other than one version of Halo, I haven't seen any games that don't run on Windows XP. I read that most games play faster with Windows XP than with Windows Vista, and Tom's recent article seems to state that Windows 7 isn't faster with gaming than Windows Vista.
So bottom line, is there any point in switching to Windows 7 (or replacing my XP X64 with Windows 7)?
