I've been unable to access my F: drive. When I double click on the drive I get en error that says "Application Not Found". I can, however right click on the drive and open it that way, it's just extremely annoying. It doesn't matter what device is set as the F: drive, be it a UBS drive, a virtual drive, or a CD/DVD drive, it gives me the same error. At first I thought maybe there was something wrong with my USB drive, but if I use the same USB drive as E:, G:, H: etc. it works perfectly fine. The problem seems to lie specifically with F: drive itself. I've run all my virus scans (Norton and Malwarebytes) as well as PC Tools Registry Mechanic and found nothing. I even restored my system to about a week ago with no results.
I had backed up (on my main hdd) several pictures/documents/movies from an old harddrive several years ago- recently i tried to access it and while i can see the whole file structure and names and even information im unable to open any of them- this is almost across the board with the exception of maybe a couple files. I wonder if it could maybe that these are from a different windows based os and maybe incompatible with this computer? could it be a 32bit/64bit problem? or maybe a different file system?
I have taken ownership of all the files and folders on an old hard drive, but am still unable to access many of these files. When checking in the Security tab, I see myself as the owner with full admin permissions, but still cannot open the files
I am trying to open my hard drives of my dell windows 7 laptop, but unable to open and the error continuously going on. I think it is badly affected with virus. But my anti-virus is still running, can any one suggest me what should I do to access my drives again?
I am using Windows7 and IE8 on a Dell2350. The computer was working fine till last Friday and now I can't download anything. I keep getting a message saying "Unable to download... Unable to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." The dialog box itself doesn't show how big the file is or the download speed or the time left. I also keep getting a message saying a program has corrutped my program setting.
Problem started earlier tonight. I clicked accept or okay on something that I think was a Windows Update (Honestly, at this point, I'm unsure of what it is I really clicked. I know that's stupid of me to click accept or ok on something I wasn't paying attention to, but it's too late now.) and my computer completely restarted. When it came back up, I attempted to get back on Skype, Windows Live Messenger, and Mozilla Firefox. None of them would open. I clicked on the icons as well as the links in my start menu. Although, on the start menus, it showed as if I was still signed into those programs. My mouse pointer on the screen gave me a little circle as if it were loading, but nothing happened. Suddenly, I got a blue screen with something that said "Crash" and "Dump" in it. I panicked. When it finally restarted my computer again, I still cannot access any programs, including my anti virus. I can get into Pain, My Documents, and such, but nothing else really.
I tried restoring to three days before, but the problem followed me. I also tried Safe Mode, nothing would work there either. I am using a separate computer to access this website. I am using Windows 7
I cannot open my PDF files on Adobe Reader because I receive a message telling me that BIB.dll is missing and needs to be installed. Been probing with no direction.
i tried to open a file by double clicking on it and it didnt work so I right clicked and went into the OPEN WITH. there i clicked on internet explorer to open the file. Once I did that every program on my desktop switched its icon to the internet explorer icon. now i cant open internet explorer, skype, teamviewer, vuze or any other program on my desktop. every time i double click on a program a window pops up that has three options, open, sace and cancel. i clicked open ans save and it didnt work. now i dont know how to undo what i did.
Not sure what happened, but starting this afternoon, Explorer 9 (released version via automatic update) will not open a link in a new tab, nor will it open that line into a new explorer window.Looked at multiple complaints and fixes for this, none worked (including the scripts). recent automatic windows 7 update to "allow further updates", I used firefox for the first time - note did not set it as the default, there was a java update and an adobe update. This machine is windows 7 sp1, completely updated 64bit home premium system. Turned off all the add ons, restarted - didn't fix it. Tried the script for the same problem, that didn't work. All the resetting has done, is removed the tool bars I like to use and it still doesn't work.
Relatively fresh install Win 7 Pro 64bit Thunderbird is default email programme
I use an outliner/PIM which uses IE to display saved files in it's viewer pane. It had a problem showing saved emails in .eml format. I then tried to open the emails directly with IE 32 & 64 bits - without success.
What happens is: a donwload progress-window opens, and, in front of that, a download dialogue asking do I want to open or save or cancel.
I thought I was being smart when I deselected "Always ask for this filetype" but then it opens the file in Thunderbird, the default handler.
But I want it to open in IE - why does the download dialogue open at all? I'm trying to use IE to open it: this happens if I try to open a locally saved file via the context menu "open with" or if I try to open from within IE.
Some security setting maybe? This used work in XP IE8 so presume it should work here. I presume I could make IE the default handler for eml but dont want to mess with Thunderbird either...

I have just got a new Dell mini 1018 with Windows 7 starter 32 bit edition. Each time I tried to access Services I get a pop-up window saying - Windows can't open this file: To open this file, Windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it. Windows can go online to look it up...The 2 options of selecting a web service or an installed program do not seem suitable to resolve this.

my wife just purchased a new computer with windows 7. I know that outlook express is no longer there. She is trying to read old email in folders and cannot without opening the folder and then opening each email. Are there any free programs that will work...or does she have to purchase outlook??
I am getting message that IE has stopped working. Also same message for Firefox and Chrome. I ran mcafee full scan and Malwarebytes full scan and had no viruses or spyware. I am unable to open any of the three, and can't connect to the internet.
So I just bought Windows 7 Upgrade and there are 3 parts to the Windows 7 download. I downloaded Win7-HP-Retail-en-us-x64 which I think is an install file. But every time I try to run it I get the error message, "The application cannot find one of its required files, possibly because it was unable to create it in the folder. Please make sure that the folder in which this application was downloaded is accessible and not read-only". I threw it onto my desktop, unblocked it from properties, but still it doesn't work
i am new to windows 7, just upgraded to windows 7 pro i have encounter a problem where when i right click "My Computer" and click on "Manage" an error regarding file associate popped up ... but i am able to open through Control Panel ... (this problem did not occur few days back)
I have had a lot of start up problems recently including having to start up windows explorer manually from the Task manager, However, my biggest problem is that I can't open any web browsers. My windows live mail is working and programs seem to be able to download updates but I can't open IE9 or Firefox. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox and turning IE9 off and then on again in turn Windows features on or off but still no luck. I keep getting the message internet explorer has stopped working.
I recently purchased a laptop and hooked up my Seagate HDD to access different files on there (music and videos mainly). The HDD was originally connected to my desktop. Both systems run Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
However, on the laptop, there are some files (it seems to be older ones) that I can't run from the hard drive. I have to copy them to my actual hard drive in order to run them. Trying to rename one of these files yields " File Access Denied: You'll need to provide administrator permission to rename this file" even though I only have one account on here which is the admin.
Is there any way just to do a clean wipe of the security restrictions so I don't have to worry about this?
I'm not sure what's going on so I'll quickly describe what I've been experiencing. First off, this a three month old computer. I don't use any P2P applications. I'm good at not clicking false links, etc. I'm up to date with Microsoft Updates and all of my software is up to date as well. I ran a virus scan and it came back completely clean. Sunday afternoon, I left my computer up with a bunch of windows open in Google Chrome. Everything was fine. I came back and no web pages would load. I disconnected my ethernet cable and plugged it back in. Everything was fine for a little while. Then everything started getting choppy. Programs were taking forever to open and once they did, the entire computer started lagging. For example, songs in iTunes would pause for about a half a second and jump right back in. It happened almost routinely, every 3-4 seconds. The mouse cursor was also jumping. I restarted and the same effects were observed. I can no longer open any MS Office products. This REALLY screws the computer up. I opened task manager and I can see Powerpoint, for example, running in the background and using about 100kb of memory. "End Process" does not even end the process. I tried using PSKill.exe to kill the process, but to no avail.
I am unable to open Windows 7 64 bit normally. This has been an escalating problem for about a month. It began as a problem every 4-5 times I started Windows 7. It got more frequent and then, about two weeks ago, I was unable to open Windows 7 normally at all. I can get to Safe Mode. When I try to open Windows 7 normally, I get the Windows logo and Starting Windows, then the screen goes black. The red light indicating hard drive activity continues to flicker but the screen will remain empty for as long as I want to wait.I have run Startup Repair booting from the installation DVD. It either finds nothing wrong or fixes something and tells me to restart, but I can't. I have tried System Restore three times with no luck. I'm just going around in circles. The only things new to the computer are more RAM and an nVidia graphics card but these were installed after the problem began.
I have 2 hard drives, one with Windows 7 and one with Ubuntu Linux installed. The Llnux side works fine so I have internet access.I have run Malwarebytes, SuperAntispyware, something from Kaspersky that looks for rootkits. I have run hardware diagnostics. I have Norton 360 on the Windows 7 drive. All are up to date. None can find anything wrong.Last week I took it to trouble-shooting session at HAL-PC (Houston Area League of PC users) and it worked fine plugged into their CRT monitor and wired keyboard and USB mouse. When I brought the set home, it still didn't work Is it the display or the keyboard causing the problem?I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse and a Viewsonic LCD monitor. The PC, monitor, keyboard and mouse are about 3 years old.I have unplugged everything from the PC except the monitor and the wireless keyboard dongle. I tried starting and then immediately unplugging the dongle so the the PC could not be getting spurious signals from the keyboard or mouse. It didn't work- wouldn't open.
