Ubuntu Uninstallation Windows 7 Installation?
May 7, 2011
I have been trying to install Ubuntu in my lappie..unfortunately the process got aborted during the boot loader installation. Now am trying to un install it completely and trying to install windows 7 on my PC.But i get error when windows 7 installation kit is trying to "Expand windows files."
Tools in hand :
Ubuntu live CD
windows 7 boot CD
I have no OS currently in my PC
Previously installed one was windows 7 which has been completely formatted during my ubuntu installation.
P.S : I dont want the data in other logical disks to be deleted.
Guess there is some issue with bootmgr.
Error says bootmgr missing.

I've installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my notebook ASUS U36SD. It worked perfectly fine for 4 months. Recently, I decided to install the last version of Ubuntu, 11.11. From now, Windows 7 doen't want to boot: It freezes at the boot screen. I tried to use the repair mode, but it failed. I also tried the safe mode. It still does't boot and freeze when loading CLASSPNP.SYS.

I intends to install Ubuntu-Linux-12.04-1 in my Laptop (HP Probook 4410s) in which Windows 7 is already installed. I want to make it dual bootable with Ubuntu-Linux-12.04-1. However during installation one of step i.e. "This Computer currently has Windows 7 on it. What would u like to do" the options are two 1 Erase and use the entire disk or 2. Specify partition mannualy. If I opt option 1 it will earse entire disk which I don't want to do so. I have recently installed in Acer make PC the optionwas differnt. If I go through option No. 2 I don't know about option No. 2 it requires root file system to be defined.

I tried uninstalling the bloomberg desktop software from my Windows 7 professional last night and that's when my nightmare began:First off, the uninstallation wasn't smooth. After I uninstalled the main program, there were still patches of auxiliary programs left and I had to un-installed them one by one. Win 7 did complain that some of the components were not there or program not found but eventually they were all removed from the windows program list.Unfortunately when I tried to reboot, my PC would go into this debug mode whereas the system can't 'fix' the problem automatically. I tried looking into the log and noticed the following:
Number of root causes = 1 Startup repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem Then a bunch of checks which yielded error code 0x00 which seemed normal. Then I dig deeper and noticed the following:
Problem event name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem signature: 6.1.7600.16385
Worst part is that I can't even recover using the system recovery as I'm missing some files from the bloomberg file holder.

While trying to download new 2011 free avg, the application exe file appears to save ok but will not show up on desktop or anyother location for me to access. Tried other software applications from cnet and got same results. Also restore operation did not work.

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Mini 110-1116NR, then deleted the partitions that had Ubuntu on them, not knowing that Ubuntu comes with GRUB2, and sets itself as the default boot for that system. Now that GRUB2 is not installed, since it was on my only HDD, it looks for the GRUB2 partition, which does not exist.

I've downloaded Bluestacks to sync my android apps with my pc and it worked just fine. Shortly after I've gotten a request from Microsoft to run some updates which I've accepted. I left my workstation and when I came back 2/3 of my desktop icons had vanished and there were about 30 application error windows on my screen. The pc was blocked and only CTRL+alt+del worked, so I've shut down the pc. Since then nothing worked. I can't boot Windows 7, can't start safemode. The only thing that works is F2 (Setup) and F12 (boot options), but I don't get far there.Remedies: I've tried the following without success:
1) Rebooted W7 from the CD, ran the repair option out of which system image won't work and although I see system restore points (I have bi-monthly points), I get an error abort message. So no luck there
2) I've downloaded the Ubuntu 12.04 ISO on a UBS flashdrive and at least succeeded to get the initial Ubuntu screen but couldn't install (subinstall it under Windows 7 was suggested) and thus had no chance in recovering my files/docus/media. The computer goes back to the black screen with the blinking unusable cursor.
3) I've tried to follow the suggestion from your Tech JSntgRvr by downloading the "Farbar Recovery" program and execute it in the Window command prompt, but I get an error message that states:x:sources>i:frst.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. (with "i" being the drive where the usb flash was)So now I am out of my "very limited" wits.

I have downloaded 695MB Desktop Edition from it's official website,I'm installing it along with Windows 7 Home? While Installing I got the following screen first :allocate drive Space
1) Install alongside other OS
2) Erase and Use the entire disc
3) Specify partitions manually(advanced)
I have chosen Manually Partitioning option(3rd Option). There I got directed to free space option which is Unallocated space that I created in Windows 7.it shows free space 20973MB After clicking on free space, I got one window for "Create Partition" which says:
A)Type of new partition 1) Primary 2)Logical (Selected)
B)New Partition size in MB 20972
C)Location for new partition 1)Beginning 2) End Question:Which one to select,1 is selected by default.
D)Use as Ext4 Journalising File System
E)Mount Point / After pressing "OK " button,I got the following message:You have not selected any partition for use as swap space Go Back Continue? how to select swap spaces.

I'd like to start by saying I'm not very good with computers. I'm a complete noob, infact. Which is why it probably was not a good idea to install Ubuntu. But now, I am trying to rectify this problem. So I popped in the full install version of Windows 7 Home Premium and booted from the disk. I got up to the part where it asks me to select a partition. One is something like 293 GB with no free space, and the other is 8 GB with no free space. It won't let me install on either, and the reason it gives is something like it's not in NTFS format... I don't know what this means. And if you do choose to reply, act like you're talking to a preschooler, because I am when it comes to computers.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my main computer.I'm not sure what the feature is called, but I was told that there was an app that would allow me to install another operating system, in my case Ubuntu, so that it is accessible from within Windows 7.I'm not looking to dual boot, just use it from Windows 7.

I have a new rig and I cannot install either my OEM copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 or Ubuntu 10.10 x64.
When I try and install Windows, the installation goes through and then - just before it says 'Complete' - it says something along the lines of "Failed to make bootable" and then says press any key to restart.
When I try to install Ubuntu, I cannot select my preferred partition. And when I go into [Specify partitions manually] and select one, it says 'No root file system is defined. correct this from the partitioning menu.' And nothing I do can change this.

I never setup a triple-boot system before. I kind of have an idea of how I'm going to attempt this little project but wanted to see what you guys thought. I have a 320GB asus laptop and plan on using Gparted live cd to do all my partitioning. I plan to create 2 NTFS partitions and then create an EXT3 partition plus a swap partition..

I created a bootable key of Backtrack 5 using YUMI from Pendrivelinux. Choosing USB as first boot device allows me to access the key and choose to boot BT5. It doesn't seem to boot up properly but at least I can access the drive; so I should be able to format it, right? On booting to both/ either Win7 or Ubuntu 11.04, the drive isn't mounted. Under Win7, it's available only under Device Manager as an Unknown Device and comes complete with exclamation mark! It also seems to be listed under USB Controllers as a USB Mass Storage Device (properties say Device working properly!). There is also no listing of the drive under the Disk Management section of Administrative Tools/Computer Management. I have also tried Spotmau but the drive still doesn't show up. Any ideas of how to format the key? There is no data worth saving on it, as it can easily be rebuilt, but it's a handy 4Gb Kingston Datatraveller 102 stick.
