View 18 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new pc from Dell. I opted out of buying the SB sound card they had as an option and now I am sorta regretting that. I loaded RC 7100 as soon as I got the machine and after going through this forum I am sorta left with the impression that SB cards don't work with Win 7. Is that really the case?
I was looking at an "Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound Card" but if it will just cause me grief it's not worth it. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can get and not pull my hair out trying to get it to work? The main game I play sounds sorta mediocre with the on-board sound.
Why does the Windows 7 compatibility center list this program as compatible with Windows 7 when it CLEARLY does not work with Windows 7 without serious effort? Then, Microsoft doesn't even post workarounds for how to make it work with Windows 7! I know this game is really really old but it is a Microsoft game so they should put some effort into keeping it alive, particularly since it is better than AOE III.I have successfully installed AOEII: Age of Kings and the expansion (conqueror's) and updated to patch 1.0C or whatever it is called. When I go to run conqueror's the splash screen comes up saying that it is loading, I hear the CD spin, and then 3-4 seconds later the CD spins down and the splash screen just hangs there for eternity. The game never runs. I've tried running in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode and as an administrator.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently upgraded my os to windows 7, and noticed a significant
fps drop in all games I've installed. The problem seems to come from the sound card.
I've disabled it in device manager and I gained a steady 15-20 more in most of the applications.
Any idea what to do? Is it a driver issue or something? I got an Athlon 64x2 4600+, Asus M2N mainboard,
2 gigs of ram, Gainward 8800GS video card, Sound Blaster Live 24bit soundcard.
Drivers are downloaded from creative.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dynex wgdtc pci card and im wondering if its compatible with windows 7. I tried installing the software for the card in windows 7 (vmware) in Linux and it didn't work. That may be a vmware problem but I'm not sure. Also can you check my computer specs and tell me if I can use windows 7?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have seen a few posts of people trying to get a list together of sound cards that WILL work in Windows 7. Surely the moderator could compile and forward this request to MS to see what they have to say? I mean, we can't all be dumb! They also can't expect us to throw away our expensive cards just because there are no drivers. Of course, it's not MS's fault that a third party manufacturer doesn't update their drivers, and we all expect Creative Labs to drop us like a hot stone once they have our cash in their greedy little paws, but there HAS to be a solution somewhere? (Solution 1: make mental note not to buy Creative Labs *anything*, and I'm basing this on experience stretching back a bit).
My sound is from an onboard chip, so I will probably have to purchase a new card just to get sound. I have tried everything: BIOS enable/disable audio, get drivers from the Fujitsu site for a SCALEO 800s (you try that one...good luck), uninstall Windows 7 updates, move IRQs around, allow ESCD reset in BIOS, XP compatibility mode...no luck. The chip is a Sis 7012 with ESS ES1968 Maestro-2, according to those lovely driver update applications that are all FREE until you have to put in your credit card; you know the type.
The only thing hardware manufacturers CAN design and implement properly is a cash register, because that's all they seem to want. Once you've made the purchase, they don't want anything to do with you. MS, please come to the rescue with the following:
a) a list of Windows 7 compatible sound cards - LEGACY - ,
b) a list of new cards on/near the market
c) a more subtle compatibility mode that will say "I haven't found your driver, but in the interests of your sanity, click OK for me to install a compatible one until we get this mess sorted out."
I know that Creative has stopped supporting the SB Live! 5.1 way back in the day, but I was hoping anyone would know of a way to force it to function in some way. I've heard a lot about this Daniel_K guy, who's been making drivers for old Creative cards, but I can't really find anything for my Live! card that is native to Windows 7.
Alternatively, I've installed the official WinXP drivers on Windows 7, and they work to an extent. I'm getting very odd distortion (echoes) when I play any audio. I'm grateful the audio works decently, but the echoing is really grating. Can anyone help me find a new driver for this card, or at the very least walk me through setting up the XP driver?
I recently installed Windows 7 on my Inspiron 1501 laptop. The video card is an Xpress 1150 and the whole unit is about 2 1/2 years old. Just after loading Windows 7, my computer began crashing. The screen would go a random color which I figured out later wasn't random at all. It actually pasted the prevalent color on the screen over the whole thing in a vague bar pattern like lines of miniature color gradient. It does it at random without any warning. I'm wondering if this is a compatibility issue. Maybe it's coincidence and my video card is going bad. Anyone else having a problem like this?

The external sound card installed is Xonar DG and it comes with SPDIF output header to be interfaced with video card. But I do not see no such header on the video card. I wonder what video card has such an interface header.

If anybody knows a fix for this I really would be eternally grateful
I've solved my gaming graphics issues, namely by choosing the parts I wanted rather than buying yet another "Media-Center"-style all-in-one unit that did everything, but not very well, I'm now in need of a solution to my present awful headphone sound quality. I have a generic Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio card that is not very good, sound-wise, and, because it doesn't even include an optical out plug, goes unused. I purchased a refurbished Turtle Beach headset w/DSS decoder, and, while it works as advertised, the headphones are terrible for music. I've replaced the TB Headset with a much better-sounding Pyle set, and will buy some "real" headphones as soon as I've determined that the source itself is sending out a good-sounding signal.I've seen pro and con arguments about sound cards, like the Xonar series that have headphone amplification included. My issue with that is I am more concerned with the graphics for games, and I've built this system with SLI (another gtx580) in mind, and I do not see enough room under or in between the dual GPUs for proper installation of such huge sound cards, though I'm glad to have my ignorance in this area demonstrated. The anti-Sound card group seems to be gravitating towards a separate headphone amplifier, and I"ve seen them from the $20 dollar model included free with another headset I purchased, to the $1800 tube amps. I think I would like to either go this route, or purchase a home stereo receiver that can output the PC sound, thus having both satisfactory amplification for low-volume music listening( or ear-bleeding levels, if desired) and the ability to power speakers elsewhere. I guess what I'm asking is for some entry-level priced PC headphone amplifiers to start off with. I see countless rating comments for the FiiO series, and while the prices are certainly attractive, the fact that they're so low-priced also makes me leery of their actual amplification abilities while staying neutral in tone.

normally i only have 1 sound card/sound device in sound settings when i use hdmi with my tv, i have 2 sound devices in there, and i can choose 1 one of them as default, and all applications i run will play sound on that default device, so i choose hdmi (my tv) as default, open chrome for my mom watch movies, sound play on my tv (hdmi), that's what i want and i open firefox, go to Internet, sound also play on my tv (hdmi), that's not what i want, i want it (firefox) to play sound on my pc, so my mom can watch movies on tv, and i can watch Internet on pc
is there a way to do this? a way to set per-application sound card/sound device setting? i know some programs like windows media player or vlc can let you choose sound card, but firefox, chrome do not. i tried indievolume and it did not work, even uninstalled, reinstalled but did not work, or is there any browser that let me choose sound card setting (like wmp and vlc, but these 2 are not browser)
and does anyone know if mac or windows 8 has this feature as built-in? if windows 8 does then i might upgrade
I removed my emu 0404 soundcard after problems (it's known to have problems with Windows 7).
My sound (with onboard) was working before installing the Emu.

I have a sound-card and my motherboard has on-board sound. I can't find the bios setting to turn it on and I can't see any hint of it anywhere on the computer. Can someone help me get the on board sound going? My computer is homebuilt, I recently installed Windows 7 pro 64bit.
i have everything installed exept my soundcard. Philips PSC703 LWHA581-U3 A581-U30 soundcard. When i try to download and install my drivers, it says The Philips PSC update installer has been detected.New PSC update files cannot be copied until this installer has been removed. Do you wish to remove the old installer? Then its two options "Yes" and "No" I have never run this driver install before, and this pc is newly formated and installed. When i click Yes, it says it has been removed, and when i restart the installer, the same note comes up.. Ive tried to restart my pc, still no success. Also, when i downloaded the installer, it didnt say it was for win7, only XP and the other versions exept vista and 7, cant i have my soundcard at this pc..?

I haven't been able to adjust bass and treble yet but I've been too busy just enjoying the music to get around to looking for ways to make that happen. Music sounds better than it ever did in XP or Vista!
It may not be a complete fix but at least it'll get you some sound until they come up with driver for those of us with older sound cards. Be patient as it takes a while for the complete install!
My rig uses a Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wireless mini half-card. It reports the correct name except within the wireless network list. Instead of 6230 it reports 6320. I searched the registry to see if I could find the error, but nothing found. It's only a nuisance, and a minor one at that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 Premium and I have been using my onboard sound (realtek) which came with my Motherboard (ROG Maximus IV). I then purchased the Asus HDAV 1.3 Deluxe soundcard and installed in my PCI-E slot. The soundcard was not recognised by my pc at all. When I tried to install my driver, it stated that the card wasn't plugged in. I tried every PCI-E slot and eventually took it out and returned it. The shop I bought it from did prove that the card worked fine. I then purchased the Auzentech X-Fi Home Theater card. Installed that in my PCI-E slot and again it is not recognised. When I try to install the drivers it just tells me that the card isn't installed. Windows has assigned generic driver but states it is not plugged in. I have since given up (But kept the card) and have gone back to using onboard.
