Scrambled Windows Logo When Installing Windows 7

Dec 24, 2011

I recently formatted my hard drive after having some blue screen issued with Windows 7, after it has been running fine for years. After formatting I was not able to use the Windows 7 Upgrade disc. I decided to install an old copy of XP to be sure I was not having any hardware issues and it is running perfectly.

I know i can't upgrade directly from XP and have to do a clean install. When trying to install from XP i get the message;

"This installation disc isn't compatible with your version of windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc. For more information, check your computers system information. To install a new copy of Windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc and then select custom (advanced)."

The problem is when i boot from the CD I don get the option to install from the disc. It begins by saying 'Windows is loading files...' and then the Starting Windows logo completely scrambles and wont go any further.

And what i can do to get Windows 7 to install?

PC Upgraded - Scrambled Graphics On Windows 7 Startup

Dec 1, 2012

6 months ago I upgraded my PC with a intel 3820, x79ud3 mobo and 8 gigs of ddr3 ram. Ever since then occasionally the window 7 start up logo graphic would glitch up and i would get a black screen. at first i thought is was my mobo because that was the most significant change in the system. I've recently had it replaced(same model) and its happening more than ever. I've tested the PSU as well and its been able to hold a mark95 test and a furmark test, going at the same time, so its been ruled out. I've tried swaping out my graphics card but that didn't solve the problem either.

CPU - intel i7 3820 @ 3.60
motherboard - gigabyte X79-UD3 (F11)
ram - 8GBs @ 1600
Hdd - intel 330 120 ssd
graphics card - gigabyte GTX460 OC
PSU - antec earthwatts 750watt
cooler - corsair h80

Scrambled Desktop Icons

Nov 26, 2009

I use the extend feature on my laptop with a second monitor. The only thing on the second monitor's desktop is a couple gadgets and sticky notes, NO icons. I keep all my desktop icons on the primary screen. However, whenever I disconnect my second monitor and take my laptop somewhere, I always turn my computer on to find all my icons randomly bunched up on the left side of the screen. Can anyone help explain/fix this?

Aero Background And Title Bars Scrambled

Nov 23, 2009

When I turn on Aero settings my desktop wallpaper is scrambled along with title bars of applications. Everything else will work fine for a bit, but after a while it 'crashes' and Aero is automatically turned off.

The card I'm using is the ASUS SILENT Radeon HD 3650.

I've searched the threads and solutions to no avail. One member has a similar issue and solved it by switching motherboards (started with a SIS 648 chipset). Unfortunately I only have a SIS 648 chipset motherboard available.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? I've attached screenshots of the effects described.

WMP 64bit - Scrambled File Associations - No Media Will Play

Oct 14, 2012

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 on my PC, and was getting everything set up again, when I ran into a bug that I can't believe is still present in Windows 7 after two years of it being a supposedly known issue. This bug pertains to WMP 12 64 bit.I fell victim to this bug back in 2010, but the problem is I don't remember how I fixed it.Here is an old thread wherein the first post, by Chappy, describes EXACTLY what happened to my system. Windows 7 Codec Pack (from Vista Codec Pack developer)Specifically, this is what I'm talking about...."NOTE - There seems to be a behaviour noted in Vista that possibly has carried over to Windows 7 as well. It's not a VCP related behaviour but it CAN affect if some files play or not.Vista (and Windows 7) come with both a 32 & 64bit version of WMP and it was found in Vista that if you associated a certain file type with WMP while the 64bit player was set to the default, that file association could NOT be changed even if WMP was set to use the 32bit player as default afterwards. This causes certain file types to be Unplayable due to 64bit WMP's limitations (well actually it's CODEC limitations). There are no functional differences between 32 or 64bit WMP but because of "lazy" CODEC developers, many CODECS are not 64bit compatible...yet.

Because of this, most of us set the 32bit WMP as default before making any file association changes for WMP. This way the 32bit WMP will play all file types with no issues using VCP. Unfortunately, if you have opened a media file in Windows 7 and checked the "associate this file type to WMP" option while the 64bit player is default (which it is out of the box), then that file type may not play even though you change to 32bit player using the VCP x64 tools.Another thing I think I've found is that .FLV (Flash Video) files will not play in WMP no matter which version is default. They do play in WMC, and I'm going to check with Shark007 later about .flv support, so I'll post any results later."I tried opening a media file in Windows 7, and accidentally associated a file (or all media files) to WMP while 64 bit player was default (since it was a fresh install of Windows).

I can confirm my video card and sound card (Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium) both work correctly. They've worked perfectly since I installed Win 7. I've double checked, and can confim my speakers are plugged in correctly.A few days ago, this problem began when I called Microsoft Support, to get help with getting Windows Media Center to stream to my XBox. As part of that trouble shooting, they had me go into Windows Media Player. This was the first time I opened Windows Media Player since reinstalling Windows. The very first screen I saw said that WMP 12 needed to be set up for the first use....and it prompted me to go with the default setup or to set it up with my own preferences.I chose default setup (it's been two years since this happened last time, and I'd forgotten about the bug). From that point that I selected default setup, iTunes stopped working. If I play a song (any song) in my iTunes catalog, the song just stays stuck at 00:00 and nothing happens. If I try playing a song in WMP, it shows that it's playing, but there's no sound.Meanwhile, if I go to Control Panel and click "Sound" I can see the equalizer showing that sound IS happening....but I hear nothing...whether we're talking system sounds, iTunes songs, Internet video etc.I've checked my file associations for WMP 12, and EVERYTHING is checked and I can change nothing as they're all checked and greyed out.

Image Appears Scrambled On Select Warner Bros Blu-ray Discs

Mar 18, 2012

I have made a recent Windows 7 reinstallation on my PC and ever since then, a few select Warner Bros release BD discs do not play properly. The sound is jsut fine, but the image is scrambled in all shots that have a great aount of animation (lights, explosions, traffic, car chase, etc)

I have a AMD Phenom II 2 550 @ 3,10 Ghz
4.00 GB RAM
Windows 7 x64 (I need RAM for my job)
ASUS BR-04B2T BD Player
2x BenQ G2420HDB displays @ 1920x1080
NVidia Geforce 9600 GT 512 MB GDDR3

I tried updating the BD player firmware, tried playing discs in another software except PowerDVD, tried chaging the SATA connections, tried cleaning the discs, updating graphics drivers, disabled Aero before playback, NOTHING WORKS.

Below I attached an image of the issue and below that a video I made when watching a movie.

List of movies that present these issues: Batman Motion Picture Anthology (1989-1997), Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), Superman Returns (2006).

I recently watched Green Lantern (2011) and apparently the issue does not apply to that movie. Lord Of The Rings trilogy (released by WB via New Line CInema) also works like a charm. I REPEAT, this issue occurs ONLY ON BLU-RAY discs.

Below is supposed to be the scene in Batman Begins when Bruce faces his fear of bats in the soon to be Batcave, instead it's just...scrambled!

This is a video I made. Notice how the image looks at 00:45 and 01:25. If it would happen rarely I wouldn't make a fuss about it, but in The Dark Knight it even happens during dialog scenes if a shot occurs too quick. [URL] I stress to say this issue did not, in any way, occur when I first bought my Blu-ray ROM.

Freezing At Windows 7 Logo

Jan 21, 2012

I have spent the last few days working on my friends Sony Vaio PCG-7184L(which by the way is not listed anywhere on sony's website). It runs windows 7 64bit and it freezes immediately after the Windows logo starts it's animation and there's about an inch of the top of the screen that is filled with weird colored lines. So I told him sure, I'll fix it, it's probably just a virus and should be fairly simple. I will list in sequence what I have done so far to diagnose/fix the issue. One more thing, it started doing this freeze up thing the same day he got it back from the Geek Squad at Best Buy, who were doing a simple update and cleaning from what my friend told me. Tried booting into safemode, froze, on hal.dll, with same colored lines at top of screen, Tried booting into ERD Commander 2k8 and froze at the same spot. Booted into Linux live CD and scanned for viruses with avast, there were none.

Windows 7 64 Restarts On Logo

Apr 19, 2011

I recently built a new setup using two 350GB Western Digital SATA hard drives. They are raided and until today I've had no trouble with the computer at all. When turning my computer on it loads to the Windows logo (the pulsing coloured "squares" ) and after 10 seconds or so it reboots. When booting up it detects my raided drive however when I insert the Windows 7 cd to enter the repair menu it doesn't see the drive. What I mean is on the screen where you choose the OS to repair, it does not appear. It DOES appear, however, after inserting a USB device with my raid drivers on it and then locating them first. The trouble is, the first time I did this it detected my 700GB raid drive (or approx 630GB space). The second time, however, it only detected my old 200GB drive which I store music on. After switching to different SATA ports as suggested by another post I found on the net, I then encountered a 0xc000000F error which reads "0xc0000000f. Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". I tried doing a MBR repair but I don't think it worked.

PC Shuts Down After Windows 7 Logo?

Nov 23, 2012

AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor 3.6 GHz CPUKingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) RAMGeForce GTX 560 Ti GPUm5a78l-m lx plus MOBO600Watt PS So the problem began a few months ago. it was a random shut off here and there. i was given 2 new parts after the problem started. it was the power supply (old one was 455W) and a new GPU (old one was gforce 9800). to think of it the problem might have started when i got a new motherboard cpu and ram. so im pretty sure one of those 3 is the problem. bare in mind that it would shut off aspecialy during game play but still only doing it once, twice a day. Now it shuts off while watching a movie or even chatting on facebook and when i try to start it, it just shuts off on me during the windows 7 logo loading again. it gives me 2 options to boot from: normal, and repair mode. if i go normal it just shuts down. if i repair it not always but sometimes fixes the problem for an hour or 2. but sometimes it just shuts off again.I play this game of cat and mouse for about 4-5 tries and get it to load. it's like an old car. forgot to mention i also went from windows vista 32bit to windows 7 64bit and problem is still here my computer uses 4GB ram for hardware reserve which i don't mind. i tried to reset the bios from a backup and it still keeps screwing with me.

STOP: 0x0000007 After Windows Logo

Aug 2, 2012

I have recently purchased an i7 Ivybridge, Corsair Vengeance 8GB and Asus Z68 to upgrade my home built PC. Today, after assembling the parts, the usual splash screens show up all the way up to the windows logo. After windows finishes loading, a STOP: 0x0000007B error prevents me from going further. I have attempted to restore to 2 days previously with no effect and startup repair cannot solve the issue. When using my old motherboard, windows starts normally. Diagnosis and repair details state the Root cause as 'Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem'.

EDIT: Switched ACHI to IDE in BIOS. This allows me to reach the login screen but I am unable to use mouse & keyboard.

Windows 7 Freezes At Logo Screen?

Oct 18, 2012

I have a 7 month old Gateway desktop I got from Best Buy. Not long after getting it I replaced the power supply and put in a graphics card, no problems whatsoever. I didn't plug or unplug anything, but this morning I tried to turn it on and it sticks at the black screen with the logo, the logo will do the small wave thing and pulse but the computer won't go past it. I have tried recovery, repair, memory repair, and CHKDSK, all say they can't fix it automatically. Safe mode doesn't work and gets stuck while trying to load the files for it.

I took out the PSU and GPU and put back in the original power supply and it didn't fix it (not good with hardware so don't laugh if that sounds stupid). It did not come with a Windows 7 repair disk. I don't want to take it back and trade it in because I have files on it I want to keep, is there anything else I missed that may fix this?

Specs are (general as I don't know specifics):

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
i5 2320 CPU quad core @ 3GZ
8 GB RAM
Radeon HD 6770 GPU (Intel HD now that it's taken out)

BSOD After The Windows 7 Logo Screen

May 20, 2012

I have a HP Pavilion G6 notebook and Windows 7 Ultimate 32. The OS froze today while I was working and the only solution was to shut it down by holding the power button. I restarted it afterwards and after the Windows 7 logo screen my display shuts off (it's not just a blank screen, the monitor is off). I tried using system restore and it gets me as far as the log-in screen and after I enter my password, it gives me another blank screen (this time the monitor is on, but the screen is blank) and ctrl+alt+del does not work, nor does anything else. I am writing from safe mode right now, it seems to work just fine, but a normal start-up gives me a black screen.

Black Screen After Windows Logo

Nov 19, 2011

I'am running windows 7 professional. When i boot the PC, i have no trouble up to the point of the windows logo. When this disappears my screen (SyncMaster 913n) keep displaying the text "optimal screen resolution is 1280x1024 60 hertz" and then i dont see anything else than that. Even if i change the screen resolution to 800x600 i get the message. My GFX is 8800 Geforce GT with the drivers 285.62 (64Bit) same issue. Everything was working fine earlier today, then after a reboot i got this issue. The computer is a clean re-install so can their be missing some drivers besides the GT 8800 that can make the problem?

Black Screen After Windows 7 Logo?

Jan 14, 2010

Basically my laptop was working fine last night. I turn it on this morning and after the windows logo appears the screen goes black. However i can see and move the mouse cursor still.I tried pressing f8 at the beginning of the start up, and tred to repair my problem using the windows 7 repair features, but it didn't work, annoyingly i forgot to set a restore point as well so i can't try that. When i go into safe mode the exact same thing happens, but with the mouse being slightly more pixelated and blocky.I've got a Windows 7 Premium 32 bit disk which i purchased from Windows, but when i load that up it tells me that to install it i need to log into windows, which i obviously can't.I'm using a HP G70-120EM, i've had it for just over 12 months (Annoyingly exactly a week after the warranty is void) and like i mentioned, i've been using Windows 7 premium 32 bit for the past 2 months

Tv Not Displaying Anything After Boot And Windows 7 Logo?

So i KNOW that my monitor works because it has been working for 3 years at least. Now my hdd failed so i recently upgraded for a nice new ssd super quick as we all know, i did a fresh install of windows and now i am having this same issue with my monitor not displaying and unfortunately for me this time i have not got a friend so close by to come and fix this again.so what i do know is that there is a fix somewhere within windows and that i do not have any faulty hardware or monitor, but i am stuck.

Black Screen After Windows Logo

Feb 7, 2013

My laptop is hp-dv6-3122tx with ATI 5650 and intel hd switchable graphics.Recently my laptop started giving me a black screen after the windows logo. I was having some issues with my GPUs too.Sometimes my ATI card was not coming up in the device manager and i was only using intel HD. i have noticed that when that happens i can't see my laptop charging icon changes to plugged in mode even though i plug in the charger , but the laptop was of course charging perfectly . But recently i found my ATI card back in device manager and it was working pretty well. But after exactly a week I started getting some white lines appearing in the display too. With that knowledge i assumed that the black screen issue is a counter-product of the GPU issue. I used safemode to uninstall all the GPU drivers. Then i can log into windows and work normally and windows detects the GPUs and install the plug and play drivers. After they install it i can restart the pc and work normally. But once a shut this down and later when i try to switch it on i get the black screen issue from ground zero. that makes me believe that this is mere a software issue. But those white lines i mentioned about is due to hardware fault i guess. I don't know what to do right now. I don't want ATI graphics, intel HD is ok. i just want to switch this thing on and do my work coz i can't afford another laptop right now.
